Re: January 2011 Criterion Titles

I'm in for everything except Broadcast Gnus and Robinson Crusoe. The Dearden set sounds like an interesting choice.

Re: Criterion Announcements for November 2010

If this isn't their best month ever, its certainly their highest profile. Though I'll be avoiding Antichrist, and buying that huge boxed set mostly for Last Picture Show (though the others have no...

Re: Criterion releases for October 2010

Another great month of 2010. I'm in for all but the Anderson film (though I will nix the Seven Samurai if the BFI's edition has new supplements).

Re: Criterion releases for September 2010

Isn't the whole extended cut thing a speculation at best? Would this film really benefit from being longer than three hours?

Re: Criterion releases for September 2010

Definitely getting The Thin Red Line on Blu, and the Allan King box sounds fascinating.

Re: Criterion releases for August 2010

A good month. L'Enfance nue is an essential film, but the extras are identical to the R2 edition (with a few exceptions), so I won't buy it unless it goes Blu suddenly. Renting the Zwigoffs and two...

Re: Criterion releases for July 2010

Secret of the Grain is a rental for sure; but if the film is good enough, the specs would justify a purchase. I'm instantly sold on everything else.

Re: TCM Spotlight: Errol Flynn Adventures on 7/27

And I was so sure Uncertain Glory would get popped into the archive like so many other great Walsh films. Good news!

Re: May 2010 Criterions Announced

This could well be their best month ever. High-def debut of Brakhage and even more Brakhage? High-def debut of Walkabout? An Oshima box? Freaking *STAGECOACH* on Blu, and loaded with some of the most...

Re: March 2010 Criterion Releases

Sanjuro is the only one I'll probably skip on.

Nah, they'll sucker me in somehow.

This is the best month in *ages*.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

One of my all time favorites. Comparing Vampyr to a classic horror film is like comparing Last Year at Marienbad to an art deco musical. If the film doesn't blow your mind, I'm not sure what will. :)

Re: DeepDiscount 40% Off MSRP Sale 11/13/09-11/29/09

I only got a couple of things, all of them 40% off.

- Treasures from American Film Archives IV: American Avant-Garde Film, 1947-1986
- Gaumont Treasures 1897-1913
- Avant Garde - Experimental...

Re: February Criterion Announcement

Lola is wonderful, but Make Way For Tomorrow...its one of these things I've been hoping to see in Criterion's lineup every month for years. And now its happened.

The rest look like rentals.

Re: The Official Paramount Centennial Collection Thread

Paramount still owns their silent output. I'm pretty sure Criterion has confirmed that they are releasing several silent titles licensed from them.

Re: Region-Free BD Player: Momitsu BDP-899?

Weird. I put a rental copy of Last Temptation of Christ into my Momitsu, and now the thing is stuck loading, and I can't eject the disc! Needless to say, I'm very, very bothered.

EDIT: I finally...

Re: Zulawski's The Important Thing is To Love from Mondo Vision: 6/16/09

Possession or Silver Globe would be fine with me. Both of them in a row would be absolutely delicious.

Re: November 09 Criterion releases

All rentals; though I would have bought the Television set and soiled my shorts over it a few years back. Pretty ho hum month.

Re: Favorite Criterions

by Brakhage. Its a *bunch* of obscure films by who is arguably the most important non-Hollywood film maker in American cinema. That's one of my favorites, and probably the Criterion discs I've popped...

Re: October '09 Criterions

Makajev and Z for me. Wings of Desire is something for later, as I've already seen it, and Monsoon is a rental. Howards End is a bore.
