CDnow Backorder Policy?

CDnow Backorder Policy?
From experience, do any of you know if you make a purchase at CDnow and one of your titles becomes backordered, do you have to wait for the rest of your order to be shipped until the backorder becomes in stock? I just made a huge purchase on Saturday, and today was emailed that one of the dvds I ordered wasn't in stock and I would hate to have to wait to receive the rest of my order because I do not have very good thoughts on things being on backorder at CDnow, as they never seem to get them back in stock. Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated.

In my experience with CDNow, they ship somethings as they come in. It seems to depend on where it's shipping from.
But either way, they cancel all back orders after a month, whether you want them cancelled or not. Which is kind of a pain if you're willing to wait..... but that's me.

I ordered "Sex And the City-Complete 3rd Season" and "Harry Potter And The Sorcer's Stone" when that additional 15% off link still work. and this is what happened,
I paid thought the credit card and also use a $50 Gift Certificate, so my balance on my credit card is very minimun.
I received a confirmation email right away from them about my order and it also indicated that that will charged the balance on my credit card number ending xxx.
Monday, May 21 I checked my order history on their website, It said that they are waiting for my payment and if they don't receive it within one week they will cancal my order. But during the meantime they did not sent me any email about this matter. ???
I called them right away and give my credit card number AGAIN.
Next day the movie is released and I received a email from them saying that "Sex and the city" is on back order and I am welcome to cancel my order. But when I went back to their web site, It show that dvd is in stock.
feeling something fishy so I called them right away and the guy on the phone promised me that it is really on back order because they have not receive the dvd yet and the their web site was not updated.
Friday May 24, It still show back order on my order history BUT in stock next to that DVD. ???
I think that they probably do not want to honor my order and use back order to stall for a week and then cancel my order without me knowing it.
Does anybody has the same experience ?

After I first placed my order, and got the backorder email, I went back and re-read the backorder email and it said..
"Once a cancellation of backordered item(s) is complete, all
in-stock items are shipped immediately.".
So I went ahead and cancelled the dvd that was on backorder, just in case they wouldn't ship the in stock items until lord knows when (because I had ordered such an obscure dvd). About 4 hours later I get an email saying everything that was instock shipped save for the backorder dvd. Called cdnow the next morning and asked if there was anyway that I could cancel the cancelled request (because I still have lots of pre-orders in this order), and had no luck, so I had to order again and pay shipping and handling without the 15% off coupon. They must have gotten the dvd in stock as I just received a confirmation of shipment.
Jeyi, I have had the same experience as you with in stock and out of stock items (even if they say differently on the website). You just have to have patience, but I would assume the dvd you are waiting for would come in stock fairly quickly since it is a popular title. I remember ordering American Beauty a few days before it was released and it was on backorder after the DVD came out for about a week or so, guess they had too many preorders.

Thank you so much for the information and I feel so much better now.
I don't mind waiting because I already saw every episode of Sex And the City on HBO. I just want to own these DVDs.
I just got a email from them that they already shipped Harry Potter dvd to me and no word about Sex And the City. It is still on backorder in my order history. I hope they won't cancel my order.
