Only really good shot of a toilet I could find without a turd floating in it.

Sad, but true.

They were an excellent site in the early days of DVD but sadly had money issues, changed hands and yes even went down that toilet.

Whoever brought them are losers. Why buy a business just to shut it down?

Didn't they pay like a million dollars or something for the "DVD.com" domain name? I remember reading somewhere that this is what started their financial trouble, and it was all downhill from there.

I thought it was 5 million for the name DVDExpress and later they started selling other items besides DVDs and thats when the trouble began.

Actually DVDExpress never changed ownership, the original guy that started it, is still running it. They did loose the support of their investors though. DVDExpress had always did business under dvdexpress.com (and owned dvd.com) from day one, but they did pay a couple of million for express.com a year or two after being in business (which was the stupidest move I've ever heard of).

I thought it started when they changed the name to express.com. that is when they started to really go downhill.

I worked there from 4-98 to 4-01. The company filed Chp 11. Got bought by one of the shareholders. I was rehired 6-01 and then got fired 3 days after my honeymoon on 10-31-01. Those few months were miserable. The new owner screwed pretty much everybody he ever did business with. At least I got a severence when I was let go. There were some people who didn't get paid in 02 for like 2 months.

I have about five of those stuck in a drawer somewhere, along with a handful of those orange twirly flying thingies from Checkout.com (I don't even remember buying anything from Checkout.com). All of my 800.com popcorn is long gone though.

I miss DVDExpress. The first time they were having financial problems they decided to liquidate a lot of their stock for cheap. I bought a $400 pair of Sennheiser HD-600 headphones for $134 shipped.

My only experience with DVDExpress.com was marred by a crazy FedEx delivery driver who decided to just randomly deliver packages rather than taking them to the address on the boxes. And, of course, she didn't remember where she delivered the various packages.

But DVDExpress sent out a replacement shipment, and I assume they were reimbursed for the loss by FedEx.

Interestingly, about two days after the replacement shipment arrived, the original shipment showed up on my porch, opened. I don't know if one of my neighbors had it all that time or what happened. It was weird.

Re: What ever happen to DVDExpress?

I truly miss DVDXPRESS! They were better than (renting from) the library and better than renting from Redbox. They were cheap! $2 or $2.50 to rent blurays. And they were great when compared to REDBOX! REDBOX blurays only have the movie! NO EXTRAS ON THE BLURAY DISCS! DVDXPRESS had the whole full bluray disc with extra features, etc. LOVED THAT! First, one kiosk in a town over from me, it disappeared so I was grateful the kiosk in my town at supermaket was still around. TO ME, I surmised it was COVID that closed them down! When covid started and continued, NO NEW MOVIES were put into the kiosk box; the same damn movies sat there for 1 year! THEN they took away that kiosk. Now when I search for a DVDXPRESS kiosk, no website. Wish DVDXPRESS would come back, return. Anything I like or start to like, goes, disappears. Including certain liquor!

And not the same company. DVDExpress DVDXPRESS. Both were things, but they were different.
