the return label said it came from their returns department.
That doesn't mean it shipped from the returns dept. It just means that's where they want it to go if it doesn't get delivered. Wouldn't it make sense for all the returns to go to one dept.?

I tried ordering a Rio Karma off them in April or May and it took too long to ship so I cancelled the order. They're slow as molasses.

I remeber back in 99 they were horrible (bad customer service and backorders that never shipped even though they were listed as in-stock and refusal to cancel such backorders or any order. Then they were pretty good for 2 or 3 years but then they charged me twice for an order and it took a couple of months to get my money back. I seem to remeber sometime right after that they were not going to have a customer service available by phone or they were going charge a fee for that.

But they are still around so I guess maybe they are okay?

Well, shoot. They have TONS of great items for sale at very good prices, so I guess I'm just going to have to hope for the best. I cancelled the first order (but we'll see if they cancel it or ship it) and ordered again with the $15-better coupon.

I'm going to expect to receive both and have to send the first back; just getting the one would be a bonus. If I have to send one back, is it better to refuse or to pay to ship it back first class myself, maybe even w/a tracking number. More costly, but it seems more likely I'd get it there and get my refund. ???

P.S. They're in California--a state of 35.4 MILLION people and they still have to outsource their "customer service" (such as it is) to INDIA???

I've still never had any problems with them, aside from slow shipping and stuff going on back order.

So I just never order anything I need right away. But they still have some killer deals on stuff sometimes, especially things like digital cameras and memory cards.

I've ordered from them recently and haven't had any problems. Also, I signed up for their Visa and got $30 free (similar to Amazon's).

Thanks.
I order from them quite regularly. I find that some DVD orders seem to take a while to process (and often places like DDD have better prices), but most everything else comes pretty quickly and is price competitive.

I don't care if buy.com starts pissing sunshine. They were so awful when I dealt with them in the past, I'd rather spend more money at places like amazon.com then order from them.

Well, they (of course) shipped the item I cancelled (ordered Thurs. @ 4:30 p.m., cancelled Fri. 8 a.m., shipped Monday 1 p.m.), so now I have to either refuse it or send it back myself. It's UPS so at least it has a tracking # and I feel more comfortable just telling them "return to sender."

I'd LIKE to get my cc credited within 30 days so I don't get interest charges, but that's all I really care about. Oh, and I reordered the same item Friday, but yet that one hasn't yet shipped. We'll see how all this turns out...

I won't recap the whole sordid mess (it's become WAY too convoluted and is a total mess), but I just have to paste a brief email exchange:

I wrote: "I cancelled this order almost immediately but it still shipped. I reordered the same thing using a better coupon that came out the next morning. I need to return/get a refund for this entire order. I know I can refuse delivery from UPS, which I plan to do, but do I need an RMA# to do this?
Also, how exactly do I get a refund for the warranty?"

To which Buy.com replied, helpfully:

"Thank you for contacting Buy.com. This is in reference to your email regarding the order #23175642.

We are writing to inform you that as you wanted to know about the Warranty so in that case you have to contact the warranty department at 888-771-3705.

We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced.

Thank you again for writing to Buy.com."

So, even the "Customer Care Team" who reply to email from customers do not speak English as a first language, apparently? This makes it VERY difficult to resolve a situation...

I have ordered 100's of items for myself and the company I work for and I have never ever had an issue with any of their products, as a matter of fact it is my favorite online place to shop. In the last 5 years or so I have spent probably close to $20k. Of course it does help when one of their shipping warehouses is 25 minutes from your house.

If you've never had an issue, does this mean you've never once had a problem you needed to get straightened out with them? I agree that with orders that go smoothly, they're great (and very competitively priced), e.g. I preordered The Sopranos Season 5 and got it 2 days before the release date, no sweat. On the flip side, trying to resolve a messed up order with people who don't seem to entirely understand what's being asked is frustrating and painfully slow.

P.S. One shipping center seems to be 20 min. from my house (in IL) also, which RULES--UPS ground shipping is next-day every time.

Possibly, but it still came smashed. It could easily have been something that someone returned because it was smashed...
