Should I buy from DeepDiscountDvd.com?

At first I was pretty amazed with there prices and then theres the free shipping, but after looking thru a couple ratings of there company, I'm starting to think twice about purchasing from them. Many of the problems ranges from very slow delivery, no delivery at all, bad customer support, or wrong item sent.

Who is this lady? 118 Negative in 1 month is pretty bad.

What have your experience with them been like?

I've never had any problems with DDD, but I only order during the 20% off sales and only about $100-$200 worth of items at a time.

Their prices cannot be beat on anime, especially during the 20% off sale. However, I have received a few damaged discs from them. You have to send the disc back and when they receive it, they'll issue a refund. They will then process a new order for the returned item. This is a very slow process. If everything goes smoothly, it'll take a month to receive the replacement. I'm currently losing my patience on a return. I returned a damaged(and obvious rewrapped, used DVD) to them on July 3. Six weeks later and they claim that they still haven't received it. DDD has also ticked off many customers with them sharing your personal info with third parties. Bottom line, their prices are good and if your DVDs arrive in good shape, then you'll love DDD. However, if you need to return a DVD, then be prepared for a frustrating experience.

I have only dealt with DDD, the website, never on half.com or ebay [if the id referenced is actually DDD].
Have ordered during the sales, and not; orders ranging from one disk for 4.99 to multiples, including multiple copies, for 100+.
The only problem was once, during a 20% sale, when I ordered two copies of something on the same order and only got one. I called and got the additional one in a week. [Next time, however, just to be safe, I'll make two orders].
They don't always have the best prices, even with free shipping, and the shipping is not very fast [of course, my last Super Saver Shipping order from Amazon took over a week to even get dropped in the mail, so it's not limited to DDD], but I still buy from them if they have the best price on the specific item. And the fact there's no minimum order to get free shipping is a bonus; no more looking for filler, and I'm a lot more likely to get that random 4.99 or 8.99 title.

My experience with DeepDiscount has been excellent, and in the few instances when there was a less-than-perfect transaction, they followed through and resolved the issue to my complete satisfaction.

My experience with new members who sign up and whose only posting is to slam an established and popular website, however, has led me to assume that there is an agenda at work.

Hey, what do you know?! I just got an email from DDD apologizing for the delay. They just shipped out the replacement order.

Good to know , btw, what anime movies do you recommend. I'm adding 'GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES' to my wishlist.

Will you then take the word of an established member such as myself? Allow to cut and paste, as my own experiences can be described exactly:

Very slow delivery, no delivery at all, bad customer support, or wrong item sent.

I've experience ALL of them. Let's not forget to mention either the selling of personal information to third parties (the "rebate check" scam". I've stopped ordering from them and would suggest to others the same. I'd much rather support other forum sponsors who care a bit more about retaining my business.

the only problem i had was two week delivery time once. Last weel I ordered some dvds, and they arrived in two days. I've never had a problem that could not be solved or addressed. Go ahead and order, use a credit card to feel more secure.

I started an anime thread in the DVD Talk forum. There are many top 10 series/top 5 movie lists posted there that are quite informative. Here's the link to the thread(I expect to see you there)-

BTW, welcome aboard the DVD Talk train.

This might be an odd question but don't these things happen at all companies.?Why does every one single out one company. It seems to me that all stores have a return policy and customer service support. Also, purchasing online. I know Amazon , Best Buy, Dvd Empire, also have these problems.

I've never had a problem (knock on wood) and I order from their site on a regular basis. And I am in Canada.

Maybe that "lady" is his ex. LOL!

Spent thousands upon thousands of dollars for hundreds of discs and never had an issue and, in the rare case something unexpected did arise it was resolved immediately.

In fact out of countless orders I've had a total of three discs go missing, one email later the items in question were reshipped and I received them in days.

Don't get me wrong DDD is far from being the "perfect" company when it comes to customer service but I would never hesitate to suggest someone give them a try for their DVD needs.

Have some people had problems with them? I don't doubt reports of such incidents, but this can happen (as someone has already pointed out in this thread) with Amazon, Best Buy, etc. You can always find someone who is unhappy with any given retailer.

The most important consideration - as indicated by the postings in this very thread - is that the vast majority of DVD Talkers who shop with Deep Discount continue placing orders with them.

Again, to clarify, I would be surprised if my total DDD purchases were not in the several hundreds of dollars. You probably could not have found a bigger fan of them than me in the early days. Then the problems started. Then the refusal to fix problems started. So I stopped ordering.

Look, I'm not advocating the mass boycott of DDD. I personally feel that between their increasing prices and service issues, there are better options. But I'm not alone, and there are several threads with plenty of folks who agree with me.

My personal favorite is Amazon, for prices and service. They've done right by me on several occasions and they are my #1 retailer. The ironic thing is that they now have all the business of mine that DDD used to.

Over the years I've placed at least 30 orders with DDD totalling well over $2000 and have been, on the whole, very happy with their performance. One box of 12 DVDs never arrived after one of the 20% off sales and it took a number of emails, a phone call and a couple of months to resolve the issue, but resolve it they did. I agree with Josh that Amazon has become a more attractive vendor in some cases, especially when it comes to delivery; but I'd order from DDD tomorrow if they had the best deal on something I wanted!

Amazon, by far, has the best return/exchange policy. If the item is damaged/defective, they'll give you a postage paid label to print out. They will then send the replacement item to you right away via second day air. You have 30 days to get the defective item back to them or they will charge your card the amount of the replacement item.

Not only do you get the replacement within a couple of days, but you can compare the replacement item with the defective item. I remember once that I had a defective DVD with mint packaging. The replacement DVD was fine, but the packaging was torn. I kept the original packaging and swapped the defective DVD with the replacement DVD. Too bad that their prices on anime suck.

I've used DDD since about day 1. Hundreds of DVDs, and average orders of $450 for almost all of the 20% off sales.

At first they were great, and while the shipping was slow, it was free. Couldn't complain. Then, about 3 years ago, it seemed like every order I placed with them got messed up somehow. Odd problems, too. Like them charging for and sending me 11 copies of a single film, once. It was always a pain in the butt to straighten out, and while everything did always get straightened out, I stopped shopping there for about 2 years.

I tried them again, and stayed with them. I haven't had any problems since then, and I've found that while the shipping is slow, it's usually the post office, not DDD causing the delays. Again, free shipping. You get what you (don't) pay for. I learned that on big orders you should spend the extra $6 to get UPS shipping. It's very quick, tracked and always comes through.

I had one problem with an order from the last 20% off sale, but it's been completely rectified so I can't complain about them.

0 problems for me, none. Every order I have made with DDD has arrived within a reasonable amount of time, no damage, the one return that I had to make was handled perfectly.

As for slow shipping... The free shipping is media mail... So, der, depends on where you live. They ship from IL. Obviously, if you live in San Diego, it's going to take longer than if you live in Chicago.

YMMV of course but I use DDD fairly regularly.

There is no doubting that DDD is a good company and like has been mentioned not everyone is going to be happy with any specific company all the time. Certainly you should not consider not ordering with them as they are an estbalished company with a reasonable track record for the most part. Others have had excellent service from day one so this should tell you they are fine to order from. Myself personally I have had some issues with them not unlike renaldow going back a few years. I used them a lot going back many years when most of my orders were split between companies like DVD Express, Ken Cranes and DDD. Then I started having some issues which were difficult to get resolved and my biggest problem with them was their refusal to answer e-mails. You had to phone them to get anything done. For me this was a nuisance as I was dealing with an online comapne. I expect them to answer e-mails. At this time I happened across DVD Pacific and been using them ever since and am extremely happy with their service and prices. I still use DDD at times but mainly during their sales which are about the best you will find online.
