When THIS forum is telling you that you have a problem with buying DVDs, that should be any addict's Moment of Clarity

Actually, Amazon supplies a label, but it's not a pre-paid l label. I had to return 2 DVDs that were damaged this holiday season & they would not give me a pre-paid label. They also promised to refund my shipping charges to ship back to them, which they never did.

I did get a $10 GC, though, when I wrote how I wasn't happy with the way they'd handled my return.

If you hadn't tried that tea before then you bought it knowing it was something you hadn't tried & might not like. The rest of us have to actually use food when it's opened, tea bag or no. That's just not something you should be returning. Cheese, if spoiled when bought & returned the next day once opened & the customer realized the cheese was spoiled, sure... return it. I did that one time with fish & it was the very next day. The store apologized & was happy to supply me with a new fish from the meat department. Waiting a week, though ? I don't think so. There's no way for the store to know you didn't leave the cheese out on the counter after a week. Once it's out of the store's hands it's not their fault if it goes bad. Contact the manufacturer/packager of the cheese if you have a problem & let them know what happened. I've done that when Pepsi went flat after 1 day (this was a 2 liter) & I'd not had that problem before. I was sent coupons for free pepsi. There's a proper way to do things & you'd do well to learn.

If I bought tea, (which I've done, btw) thinking I might try something new that I hadn't tried before then if I didn't like it I'd know not to buy it the next time. I'd either finish up what I bought, give it away, or throw it away. (or use the grounds as fertilizer for my indoor plants)

Your sense of entitlement is outrageous ! Buying multiple copies of DVDs "just in case" ...... you have a severe problem & you might do well to get some psychological counselling.
we've already covered this. i am crazy. cheese was a walmart brand. it was their product. i live 1hr away from town. i don't have the luxury of returning a piece of cheese the next day it starts to mold. they said i could return the tea if i didn't like it. i've bought many other flavors and liked it and bought more later.

but, regardless of my psychotic behavior, my hording, BB losing $ on me (that's debatable), there was no jusitification for the management staff to have treated me like that. like i said, had he politely informed me of the situation, and the reprecussions of my continuing my actions, i would have accepted and abided. there was no reason to treat me the way they did.

It should have been pre-paid if the item was damaged. You got shafted!

Try not buying anything on a Tues one week.... than another wk. It will get easier. Do something with the extra hour you have that day.

And if it helps, think of that extra time as being returned to you for full life credit

As a retailer I can see why he would do it. His store's credits in that department are probably through the roof, which can really harm the way a store looks from a corporate point of view.

regardless of his reasons, regardless if i'm crazy, regardless if the staff is tired of dealing with me, regardless of (maybe) the store loses $ from some of my transactions or not,

there was no justification for him being rude to me, nor making up reasons for banning me. being polite and upfront about the situation would have been ok. there was no reason for him to make rude, wild accusations as an excuse for banning me. for him to say it was his store and he could do what he wanted would be OK if he owned a mom & pop store and he was the soup nazi. but he's not. he still represents the corporation.

Sillymonkey - if your story is as you have presented it, corporate customer service will certainly back you up - make sure they know who you are so they can find your purchasing history in their system. A customer who spends $15K+/year is worth at least 10 normal customers, despite what all the apologists here seem to think.

I would expect some major sucking up from Best Buy -- both corporate and local. Anything less, and you should rip up that RZ card in front of them, and start looking for a new hobby that won't tempt you into spending a dime with them for a few years.

PS - there is not one damn thing wrong with returning a box of tea because it tastes bad! How else is one supposed to find out what it tastes like? All those stores, including walmart say "Satisfaction Guaranteed" - which applies to exactly that kind of situation. They take on the risk of returns from unhappy shoppers in exchange for shoppers being willing to try something new - and eventually buy more stuff from them.

An opened box of tea isn't resalable, they have to damage it out and that costs the store money. I'm somewhat in sillymonkey's corner on the Best Buy issue, but make no mistake: Normal people do not return food that tastes bad to them. Normal people chalk it up to the risk of trying something new and just throw it away. How self-entitled can someone be to think they can return food they don't like?

yes, i don't see why people are on my back regarding the tea. not only does walmart say that, the tea company, celestal seasonings' box says that was well. btw. it is an awesome company. all the other flavors i got were great. and i've bought a lot from them, through walmart.

that one wasn't up to par, at least not to my liking. i would see a problem if i'd returned an empty box and wanted my $ back but i only used 1 bag. why should i drink more of it if i don't like it and why should i throw over $2 away for nothing? that's $ towards another dvd (ok sorry, addicted here)

i didn't ask coporate for anything other than an explaination for my treatment and an apology for management rudeness. if they too feel that the ban was justified, i can accept that.

DH, i think it is evident that i'm not all quite there. i'm hardly normal. as far as i see it, walmart accepts the risk of me (or other customers) not liking something new i get by offering their guarantee. yes, that 1 return cost them the cost of item + 2 min of staff time, assuming they didn't return it to the manufacturer. however, what other new flavors i've bought to try, i kept and bought more later. that's like 8 different flavors i tried which i won't otherwise have so final outcome, yes, they have a clever store policy. my return brought them a lot more sales for that item in the long run.

What part of "Satisfaction Guaranteed" do you fail to understand?
That's a cost of doing business. One box of tea, probably less than $5, to retain a loyal customer? Any businessman knows the decision is obvious. The fact that they did take it back without any bitching is further proof.

Are you a WASP? I'm a WASP and that's exactly the WASP mentality. I grew out of it once I started asking questions like, "why is the risk on the buyer and not the seller?" There is no good reason to favor one over the other. Both the buyer and the seller benefit when the buyer finds a new product that they like. At best the risk should be divided evenly. If a store wants to promote themselves by providing good customer service, then eating the cost of the occasional return due to dissatisfaction is perfectly reasonable and actually happens all the time.

This seems like a very odd and inefficient way to shop to me. I can see making returns but needing to do it on a very regular basis is just weird and would cause any normal person to become suspect.

Wow, you seem to be exactly the customer that every store is afraid of. I work in a small family retail business and if you would try that with me you would have been banned or whatever you want to call it long time ago. I hope you only do this to bigger chains and not your little store around the corner as we can't afford to have you as a customer. I am sorry but your are stretching the rules as far as you can and then you complain about the consequences. That is just unbelievable. Your shopping/buying behavior is beyond me. Find some help and please stop complaining.

Dirk do you REALLY believe that she was stretching them "as far as [she] can?"

Don't you think returning a half-empty box of tea would be even FARTHER?
Or how about buying the ENTIRE stock of new releases on release day and returning all of them? Wouldn't that be even more HYPERBOLIC?

no. i don't expect the same from mom & pop stores. i understand they don't have the purchasing power nor do i expect to pay the same low prices/PMs/returns whatever. if i buy there, i buy and pay the stated price, if something's bad or whatever, i throw it out and never buy that item again from the store.

but no, i don't feel bad for my buying behavior at big chain stores like walmart, best buy, CC, target etc. i am crazy.

i'm not complaining about the consequence of what happened due to my buying habits. i am complaining about how needlessly rude the manager was and how he lied about his reasons for banning me.

had he said, madam, your actions are costing our store too much $, we need to ban you because of this, i'd accept that.

but that's not what he said. he was rude & said he only wanted to deal with real customers. and that i keep buying up all their new inventory then returning it all so they cannot make any sales to their real customers. that to me is an outragous accusation for which he had no basis for, regardless of the abnormality of my buying habits.

But isn't that what you are doing? Buying it on release day, then returning it weeks later and to top it you tell people that "they snooze, they loose" but what about the normal person that has to go to work and only gets to the store after work???? That person, which is me, is f...ked because people like you went to snatch the exclusives just to return them a few weeks later. Buying more copies of the same title has nothing to do with compulsive buying. That's just plain and simple insane. Sorry, but I pity you.

yes, i buy on release day but i don't clean out the shelves like the manager accused me of. i may buy up to 3 of an exclusive and sometimes, i buy 1 too many. other purchases are old releases on sale.

sorry but if you have to work and want to get your hands on an excl., you can always order online and arrange for a store pickup where you can pick it up anytime after work. it's not my fault if someone like you decides to take a chance and pick it up after work without reservation and finds stuff sold out

If it was Celestial Seasonings saying satisfaction was guaranteed then you needed to contact Celestial seasonings with the code number on the container, your receipt, your reason for dissatisfaction, & they would either send you a refund or a coupon for a free product. Again, not the right thing returning it to the store.

I am wasting my time. Do whatever you feel like, but stop complaining. In my opinion you got what you deserved. Oh, and by the way not all stores that have exclusives let you order online for in store pick up.

I would have told you to get the fuck outta my store also. And returning a food product just because you don't like the taste. WTF?
