Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

This is a super old thread, but my question pertains to this topic.

I ordered a friend of mine this book for Christmas:

https://www.amazon.com/Tarantino-Ret...+retrospective

Taratino, a Retrospective, from Amazon. It was supposed to be delivered today, but it looks like it's delayed for some reason.

The book is pretty big. Here are the dimensions:

9.8 x 1.1 x 11.5 inches

My friend has all his mail delivered to a PO Box, not an actual physical address. Do you think there is a chance the book is too big for his Box and that's why it's delayed? What happens if that's the case. I hope it doesn't delay it past Christmas. Would the post office hold it and have him pick it up instead?

The PO will leave a notice in his box telling him he must come into the PO to get his book (large item). Same type of notice they would leave in your mail ob at home if they had a box that was to big for your mail box. It would tell you that you would have to stop at your local PO to pick up the box.

^^ Thanks. I figured that was probably the case.

My post office has lockers where they will put packages, and then they leave the key to the locker in your PO box. They only make you go to the counter to pick something up if it's too big for the lockers or they're all full.

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

Like 50% of my shipments are way-late right now. Some First Class is taking 10-15 days instead of 3-4. It sucks. I hope the news covers it, so it's less likely to get backlash from customers.

I dropped a Priority Mail box off at the main Phoenix terminal on Wednesday or Thursday. And it didn't get put on a truck until yesterday (Sunday). Normally it would have been delivered on Saturday or Monday.

I also had a mis-routed UPS Overnight package, which got delivered a day late, which rarely happens (like 1 in 1000+).

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

I talk to a postal worker once a week and he told me to mail packages early this year because of increased mail due to people mailing packages since they're not visiting relatives. Plus postal workers out sick with the virus. He said there were 18 semis sitting outside the KC facility he works at.

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

I had the tracking show that one of my packages was "forwarded to another zip code" and then marked as delivered at that zip code. Then it showed up on the tracking again but the lines that mentioned any "forwarding" disappeared off the online tracking information and ended up being delivered to the correct zip code about four days later.

Now I have one poster tube that I dropped off on Saturday, December 5th not even show up on tracking at all yet. This was the one day I just dropped off my packages at the counter and didn't have the counter clerk scan them in as I usually do because I was in a hurry that day and didn't have time to wait in the long line.

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

I just had a package spend 2 weeks at the sorting facility an hour from here. This shit needs to stop. If people complain enough, companies would have to make changes. Even using Surepost/Smartpost at this point would be an improvement because it would bypass the shit USPS sorting facilities. Of course, idiots still put up with ordering at DD to save 50 cents, so wtf do you expect.

Most of the major retailers I order from have already switched over to UPS/Fedex. eBay is another animal as sellers are primarily looking for the most economical option.

I sent me ex wife a birthday gift last week. Shipped Priority and dropped it off at a facility 2 miles from her house and it still only has an acceptance scan. Personally, I haven't received a single piece of mail in 4 days. No bills, junk, packages, or anything.

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

I'm still getting my Best Buy orders promptly from USPS. Even got Tenet a day early. My Target orders seem delayed on Target's side, they wait a few days before I get the shipping notice, but it matches up with their estimated delivery time, so I can't complain too much.

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

Best Buy's shipments seem to have some sort of warp speed attachment. For me, they always show up early, sometimes days early.

I shipped Christmas gifts to my sister's family using USPS. One of four showed up within 5 days, we'll see what happens to the rest.

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

FedEx is not guaranteeing express shipments right now.

My USPS Priority Mail shipments have been taking around 7 days instead of 2-3.

This has been my experience of late. Doesn't matter what part of the country a package is coming from - everything is taking considerably longer than normal, even taking the Christmas season into account.

Re: USPS Packaging and Shipping Questions

I have a Priority package coming to me that was supposed to be delivered last week, but it's been "stuck" for more than a week.

So I went to the USPS page where you can inquire about missing packages, and I get this after putting in the tracking...

"This tracking number is not yet eligible for an inquiry. Once a new tracking status occurs or if there is no change by 10/2/2022, you will be eligible to submit a service request."

Um, it's 10/05, so what the fuck!
