Honestly, depending on how often one buys from Best Buy and what their "exclusive members only pricing" may be, the $49 dollar tier may not be a bad deal. Free 2-day shipping and reduced pricing on stuff.

It almost sounds like they want to turn into a members-only club like Sam's or Costco.

Yes. Like I said, whether it is a deal or not depends on what one buys and what stuff gets discounted.

Best Buy is basically like Hallmark stores now. They must be so lean and so well invested that they don’t need a lot of sales to keep going.

The 49 dollar tier will assuredly have you trying to buy more stuff from Best Buy than you currently do as a feeling of an obligation to get your money's worth. I know I won't be signing up. I do, however, use the my BB card for more purchases outside of BB than inside.
