Re: AT&T to offer Directv as streaming service in 2016
FYI,
There is actually a pretty good deal right now for DirecTV Now.
You have to pre-pay for 3 months (at least the minimum package for $35 per month) and you will get a free new Apple TV 4K.
Also, if you sign up going through E- Bates you will get an extra $16 cash back.
So you're looking at $89 for 3 months plus a free Apple TV 4K.
Only drawback again is there is no DVR service yet.

FYI
Got an e-mail today that DirecTV Now officially has a DVR. 20 hours of storage, but only for Apple TV and Chromecast.
I'm on a 3-month pre-paid subscription because I took that deal that got me the free Apple TV 4K. Plus I got $16 cash back from a certain rebate site that it blacklisted from mentioning here.
Gonna try to record a few things and see how it works out.

If you have an Apple TV with DirecTV Now, your apps should have updated with the new DVR feature.

I am having trouble logging on to DirecTV Now(PC) and you have to log in too do the live chat(which is stupid if you can't log in) plus they have no help phone number so how are you supposed too contact them?
Update:I did get too work with my Avast Browser. Looks like they are having problems with Google Chrome Browser.

I saw that $5 price increase mentioned in an e-mail sent.
I had DirecTV Now for 3 months (you had to pre-pay)...it just expired on Friday mainly to get the free Apple TV 4K. Plus I got an extra $16 off from a rebate. It was worth it for getting that device alone. Overall, it's okay, but still has a lot of kinks to work out. The 20 hour cloud DVR storage alone sucks. I can fill 20 hours alone in less than 1 week.
I wasn't planning on keeping it long-term because I still have regular DirecTV. But, it was interesting to try.

In one week DirectTV, Sling's orange and now PlayStation Vue raided their rates $5.00.....
Sorry but I think it's because certain networks, Hollywood and Sports are taking a hit at the subscriber base & box office. All three of those have ESPN in the mix and their subscriber base has been bailing faster than rats on a sinking ship. See what happens with others.

The Directv Genie dvrs have a new menu design and interface.
I did not have any problems with the setup they had before
Now when you fast forward a show the scroll bar covers and blocks half of the screen!
Even with the upgrade MTV Live channel 572 still has no channel logo.

This new update is crap. When I do a listing of all my recordings, it doesn't display all of them. There's no way to display all of them, I have to search specifically for the show I know I recorded.
It feels like the satellite arm is just a legacy component that they're barely supporting, and that they'd be more than happy to move everyone to streaming or cable.
Can someone verify whether the genie ui JeffTheAlpaca posted above is similar to the DirecTV Now interface?

re: AT&T Now (formerly DirecTV Now) -- News and Updates
Not many updates here but DTVNOW has made huge improvements in the last few months. True 5.1 surround, a DVR that 'almost' functions like a real DVR, and an end to the buffering. I'm on my 3rd try & think I might keep it this time.
Also, there was an announcement after the new year that if you also have AT&T internet, you can get unlimited data at home for free (normally an extra $30/mo)

Thinking about dumping Sling for this. Any gotchas? Limit on streams?

Biggest drawback IMO is cloud DVR. They only give you 20 hours of storage. There are reports they plan to give a 100 hour DVR with a surcharge. They give you 2 streams.
They do offer HBO at a super cheap price of only $5/month.

re: AT&T Now (formerly DirecTV Now) -- News and Updates
An update for those who subscribe to DirecTV Now
Today Cord Cutters News has learned that AT&T will reportedly replace their current packages with two new ones and raise DIRECTV NOW’s price by $10 a month. The new packages will be called DIRECTV NOW Plus with 40+ channels for $50 a month and DIRECTV NOW MAX with 50+ channels for $70 a month. Current subscribers will be notified of this change starting next week the same day new customers will have to pay this new price. DIRECTV NOW will also be adding HBO to the Plus and MAX packages as a standard channel. This comes from sources with knowledge of AT&T plans to update their prices.
Current DIRECTV NOW customers will be able to keep their old packages but with a $10 a month price hike starting on their next bill. According to our sources as long as you stay subscribed, you will be able to keep your current DIRECTV NOW package. If you leave, you may not be able to resubscribe to the old DIRECTV NOW packages.
Update #2: AT&T Employees have confirmed to Cord Cutters News that emails will start going out on March 12th (likely late in the day) to current subscribers notifying them that on April 12th their bill will be going up. Your next bill on or after April 12th, 2019 will be going up $10 a month.

Lol, looking at the lineup on another site.....no more A&E, HGTV, Nick, etc in addition to ones mentioned above. In short, most of the popular basic channels are now gone. Only AT&T could possibly think that offering less for more = profit.
It's too bad because I was sort of starting to like it. It was the right channel lineup at an acceptable price, with a semi functional DVR. Oh well, I guess AT&T eventually has to ruin everything they touch. Maybe I'll give You Tube's package a shot......

re: AT&T Now (formerly DirecTV Now) -- News and Updates
I got the email informing me of the changes in price and package. However, it also said that my current $25 discount for being an att wireless unlimited customer will continue and I can keep my current package, which includes AMC and other channels not offered with the new packages, if I want. If I change my package to one of the new ones offered than I can't go back. Since it's $25 a month for the package I have, which was live a little I think, I'm gonna stick with Direct Tv now for the time being and if I lose the channels I watch or another price hike, I'll revisit it. But after looking at Sling and Youtube and Hulu, the line up I have works for me and the $25 discount doen't hurt.

A lot of current subscribers think they are losing channels, which they are not.
I started right at the very beginning and slowly but surely it works better every day and looking at the other tv streaming services they basically don't have as much as Direct TV Now.
Sure,it's not a good idea to start now with Direct TV Now because they have stripped down all their plans but if you have the service already, then everything stays the same except for the price increase.

Yeah, I got the e-mail after posting that. FYI - they must already be experiencing some fallout on this. If you go to the site & try to cancel, they offer you a $30 credit to stay & will apply to your current package over 3 months. So effectively keeping the old price for another few months.

I think A T & T has lost interest in Direct TV Now.
They probably figured it has reached it's peak and it's downhill the rest of the way and there is no point to give new subscribers the incentive to subscribe.
