Yeah, I got the notice about it. I'm not going to worry about it until next hockey season starts, whenever that ends up being. I can always make the switch to another service then, if something hasn't been worked out.

I kind of laughed when I got the notification, but they really do need to give some lead time on disappearing channels.

But seeing as this is a Sinclair channel, no big surprise.

I signed up yesterday for a two week trial. I kept getting the tennis channel notification, too.
I’ve been on board with dumping my Charter cable for a few years, but we kept putting it off since my son had certain channels he liked and I didn’t have the time to verify what has what and compare/contrast. But now that he mostly reads, plays games, or watches youtube, we decided this was a good time to switch to streaming tv and finally lower that ridiculous Charter bill. YoutubeTV seems like the best service overall, and since they just increased prices hopefully that means it will stay at it’s current price for the foreseeable future.

It's definitely my favorite one so far, and yeah I hope it stays at this price point for a while - especially with Sinclair gone.

I'm not sure what to do with the NHL season about to start the local Fox Sports no longer on YoutubeTV. It appears AT&T Now is the only broadcast streaming service that currently has the local sports networks, but it's more expensive and I'm not keen on switching.

Anyone have good experiences using nhl.tv with a VPN?

​​​​​​Do you know someone with access to the channel who could let you use their login for the streaming app? Pretty sure that will be what I am doing for MLB games when that starts up again.

I have to imagine the 4k stuff will be mostly sports. Not aware of any regular broadcast stuff that is available in 4k.

In a lengthy statement, a Roku spokesperson blasted Google’s actions in detail. The tech giant is “attempting to use its YouTube monopoly position to force Roku into accepting predatory, anti-competitive and discriminatory terms that will directly harm Roku and our users.” The company has also sent an email to customers this morning expressing the concerns.

Roku is arguing that YouTube and Google are out to manipulate the user experience to siphon data and tilt search results in YouTube’s favor, among other complaints. It also maintains that Google could require Roku to spend money upgrading microchips or other equipment in order to accommodate YouTube TV.

Sounds like bullshit to me Roku has been known to do this everytime a contract agreement comes up, they throw the provider under the bus in an attempt to not look guilty.

Roku just wants to get paid.

My bigger issue is Roku has started acting like a full blown cable company ever since the whole "We're going to stop all FOX Apps" thing a couple days before the superbowl last year.

All the way down to these stupid e-mails saying "Email the provider!" that would normally scroll across your screen. It's asinine as hell.

Was freaking out until I read the app still works if you already have it. Thank god. I have converted several people to Roku and YTTV, so I was like man, this is going to be a fucking gigantic pain in the ass.....

Yeah, I'm glad the app is still available. But this does seem to be a pattern with Roku (Who has, at least temporarily, lost the Fox Sports, Spotify, Spectrum (5 months now), and now YouTube TV apps, among a few others - not to mention the release delays for HBO Max and Peacock).

I'm so over the ads on YouTube that I've wondered about getting the pay service. When you have to watch an ad longer than the video, that's nuts. And my kids don't watch much live TV, so YouTube ends up where they get the most commercial exposure.

Is it worth it? You all like it, then?

YouTube TV has very little to do with YouTube outside of the name and movie purchases.

YouTube TV is a $65/month cable service with about 70 real channels (ABC, NBC, CNBC, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, TBS, TNT, etc; ).

YouTube Premium is a $12/month version of YouTube with no commercials.

I subscribe to Youtube Premium (not YoutubeTV). It's worth it for me. I watch a lot of Youtube on the Roku. And they were playing ads every video. Every time I watched a 2-minute clip there was another stupid commercial. It was so annoying.

The Premium subscription also includes Youtube Music (formerly Google Music). So if you want a music service, that's a nice add-on. But I wish they just offered Youtube video on it's own for a lower price.

They also have discounts for Students. If you have an .edu email, I think you get 50% off.
