Pretty comprehensive. They would rotate a few titles in and out but I never wanted for anything. Plus the themed nights and weekends (and double features) were a blast.

Hmm, I'll have to sign up now if you get those. But they should have this intro on them:

Re: The Criterion Channel -- streaming service

I signed up, today, and tested the streaming out.

When I tried to play it (Chungking Express) on my main monitor, I received this message:

Sorry, this video cannot be played while your device is connected to this external monitor.

Huh?

I dragged the tab to my TV, which is what I will be watching on and it worked fine. Then I dragged the tab back to my main monitor and it continued playing.

Weird. There's no reference to this message on their site, either.

I guess it's not a big deal, but it could be for someone if they're not able to watch it on the monitor of their choosing.

I just noticed another issue... I chose an annual payment of $89.99, but my confirmation email shows that I'll be charged $9.99 after the free month.

Anyone else get something similar?

*Regarding the subscription, I found the option to change it to annual under "PURCHASES" so it's good, now.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- streaming service

Well, I hope they improve their streaming capabilities by the time they fully launch. I found it somewhat unreliable while watching Chungking Express.

At times it would stream at less than ideal resolution, and a couple of times it stopped or was difficult when trying to go back.

It also doesn't remember where you left off. It lets you "Continue watching" but starts at the beginning, each time.

Overall, it just feels buggy/clunky. As there are probably relatively few viewers, at this point, I'm concerned how it'll behave when there is substantially greater demand.

Celebrating Albert Finney

From angry young man to five-time Oscar nominee, Albert Finney (1936–2019) was one of the greatest English actors of his generation. He first launched himself to stardom with these landmarks of the British New Wave: Karel Reisz’s bracing kitchen-sink drama SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING and Tony Richardson’s playful literary adaptation TOM JONES. Watch those classics here, along with a charming and wide-ranging interview from THE DICK CAVETT SHOW.

Are you watching it through a browser? I don't think the app has been released for this yet on AppleTV? Also were you charged in American dollars? I was thinking on signing up but it's listed as USD prices?

Yes, I'm watching via Chrome. Generally no issue with Netflix or Crave. I say generally, as there will be the occasional time when Netflix takes longer than expected to go to high resolution.

They haven't billed, yet, and won't until 1 month after the full service starts. They give you one month free. Actually, I just looked and it indicates:

Criterion Channel Charter Subscription $89.99 / year
Will auto renew on Mar 09, 2019
Free trial started on Feb 07, 2019
Switch to monthly billing ($9.99/mo)

So something looks like it's messed up in their billing.

The email clearly states:
Now it’s time to make it official and lock in your benefits, including an extended 30-day free trial (starting April 8) and reduced pricing for as long as your account stays active.

I'm pretty sure it read "US funds", somewhere, although I don't see it now.

Thanks. They had it as US funds couple of weeks ago and thus the reason I didn't sign up. It's not a must for me and I might just hold off until they have their roll out and go from there. Please if you could let me know once you are charged, if it was in Canadian or American dollars, I would appreciate it.

That's cool. I hadn't seen Saturday Night And Sunday Morning, so I watched it tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Re: The Criterion Channel -- streaming service

Adding to this... I just realized that Saturday Night and Sunday Morning is not available on Criterion.

Nice that they are able to stream it. I wonder if they will make other films available which they haven't released in a physical format?

I guess they're trying to fix the billing stuff. As it sits, I'm getting a great bargain!

I suspect it'll be fixed, long before they actually start billing.

It's strange that they have these issues, though.

Criterion streaming "Last Hurrah for Chivalry" gets me excited for a possible Blu-ray Criterion release.

The last time I saw that film was on laserdisc - one of John Woo's early swordsman type films.
