New season of Absolutely Fabulous starts tonight on Comedy Central!

9pm EST on Comedy Central

I know there are some AbFab fans on the forum, so I thought I'd post a reminder.

I'm very excited.

I don't understand that show. Can somebody explain to me what's so great about it? Not trying to thread crap, but I saw some of those older episodes yesterday, and I didn't find it that funny. Is it something that you either like or don't? I heard there's a large AbFab following, but it just doesn't seem that great to me.

The new episode was only 30 min long, right? So why does the TV listing list it over the whole hour? Anyway, I managed to catch the episode where they go to france. Still funny as hell.

I'm not grabbing it until Saturday, so I'm not sure... but ReplayTV lists it as 40 minutes long, not 30.

I think it's hilarious. It's definitely a show you either like or don't. It's British humor which is much more dry and they don't write "jokes" into the script like American comedy shows(sitcoms) do. IMO the jokes are written in because they don't think the American general viewing public are not going to get the humor unless it is shoved right in your face, and they are probably right.

That's what makes shows like Curb Your Enthusiam, Malcolm in the Middle, Sex and the City and a couple of others so great and funny because they don't write stupid crappy jokes into the script. They allow the audience to use their brain.

The show is almost exactly 30 minutes running time when aired in the UK - WITHOUT commercials.

When this series was first shown on Comedy Central it was slightly edited down for time but always extended over 30 minutes when comericals were added in. They used to combine AbFab with several skits from FRENCH & SAUNDERS sketch comedy program (which had the original skit on which AbFab is based) to fill out the hour.

I guess what they did yesterday was show 3 half hour episodes cobbled together into almost 2 hours of programming once commercials were added.

But there was just one new episode, and two old episodes, right?

Right. They didn't really make that clear when they were showing the episodes, though.

Does anyone know if they're going to continue on after this new season? Or is this just a one-time reunion type thing?

You're not alone. I like most British humour, but I don't find this show very funny at all. Maybe I just don't like female British humour. *shrug*

I think it's an acquired taste. I hated it when it first showed up on Comedy Central back in the early 90s. Then recently my husband was watching it and wouldn't relinquish the remote, so I sat through a couple of episodes and found them to be funnier than I remembered.

However, last night's new episode was a tad lacklustre. The girls don't seem quite as wild and "Out there" as they used to be, and Saffron is just a raving bitch now. I used to think she was an okay character, but I just wanted her to drop off the planet in last night's show.

Hmm, could the appearance of Patsy and Edina on the Rosanne show have destroyed their hilarity? Some kind of Rosanne-inspired malaise seems to be infecting the writing of AbFab.

I hope the rest of the episodes get a little better.

From the interview that Saunders did on the Daily Show, she mentioned that they had made only 6 new episodes. So that's all we're going to be getting for the time being. She left open the possibility of doing maybe 6 or 12 more later on, but not in the immediate future.

Which 6 BTW is a whole season for them. There are only 18 previous episodes making up the previous 3 seasons plus The Last Shout.

I like the show and the characters but their British accent can make understanding the dialogue difficult to comprehend.

Wow, that was quick.

The main characters I can mostly understand.

In past episodes, Patsy's editor (I can't remember her name) cannot be understood AT ALL....at least by me. She has a VERY thick accent, she talks fast, and to top it off, she sounds like she's got mush-mouth.

Pretty danged funny new episode. A little slow in a few bits but it made up for it with the scenes at the end where she's been injected with the wrinkle-remover. Classic farce!

Bubble? The squirrely girl?

The characters do talk fast. Sometimes, it sounds like a foreign language to me.

Man! I caught the special last weekend and I found this show VERY FUNNY!

No "PC" bs...just hardcore British humor. My love of British humor goes back to the late 70's so this show was a natural for me.

Consider me a NEW FAN!
