Yeah this is interesting back-story to TOS. They are a hundred years apart so evidently it becomes an accepted practice over the course of a century. I suppose I can buy that. I suppose they also find a cure for the disease.
Good episode all in all.

Wizdar,
I think we are playing on the same team so no didnt hate T'vok because he didnt have big Breasts. He was just boring.
Cant say I watched this episode and I guess not too many other people did either. They had hoped for new fans to watch this episode but like Nemesis, I dont think they are going to get new fans. Theres the few loyal ones that keep watching because they think it will get better mid way through season 3 and there there is myself who am tired of false hope.
The people running the franchise are devoid of much talent and if they havent shown me good product by now, I doubt its going to be happening anytime soon.
I watched Voyager all 7 seasons because I am a huge Trek fan but except for a few good episodes it was still the same ol Trek with characters that werent developed and the same ol recycled Trek plots.
Enough already.

Tuvok boring? Well, of course. IMO, he was the quintessential Vulcan for that reason. He’ll never take the place of Spock, of course.
We learned from Spock and TOS what a Vulcan should be, I think. And Tuvok, to me anyway, gets a checkmark for every item on the list.
[rant]
Now we’ve got the current lot: cranky, pissy, prone to leaps of illogic. And they’re all a bunch of LIARS! (Is anybody keeping track of how many times N’Pol has lied to Archer? Including this ep?)
Am I supposed to believe that in a hundred or so years the entire race is going to enjoy some kind of epiphany that will bring them in line with the TOS Vulcans? I hardly think so.
[/rant]
You’re right. Tuvak is boring. And I don’t think I’d like to see him with big hooters, either.
There a third group of folks who are still watching: whose of us who either don’t know any better or haven’t got the cohones to quit.

On your first rant, I agree. This lying has gotten out of hand. We have always been told that Vulcans are incapable of lying. What's the deal?
On your second rant, I disagree, assuming you are referring to the acceptance of mind-melding over 100 years. A century is certainly plenty of time for a society to rethink its attitude about something - such as minorities. Look at our own society - look at how non-whites were looked at in 1900. Compare that to 2000.

oh wait, Spock exagerated, and Valeris made a mistake and an ommission
and Tuvok was lying to Maquis so it's ok

Red Dog, maybe the tone of my first post was unclear. This episode would have been excellent if not for the fact that it is at least a decade out of date. So, with that in mind, I totally discount it (the episode, not your idea of how they could evolve from their prejudice, which I agree with). And, since it was a “The Brass say we have to do an AIDS episode” thingie, it’s a throwaway.
No, I’m talking about the general nature of Vulcans, as with the part of the rant that you agree with. It’s really one rant, not two.
Where the hell is Surak in the Trek timeline? Isn’t he supposed to be WAY before any of this?
Jeez, I feel like such a geek having said that...
mikehunt, what you say is true. However, they always had a reason to lie, and one with which I think we can agree.
Archer asks T’Pol if she knew why whatshisname gave her the research. She said “No,” which in a way was true. But we all know that there’s another reason: that he’s sympathetic to her situation and, in fact, a “member.” This is her freaking captain, fer gawd’s sake!
And then she has the balls (sorry, boobs) to jump up on her soapbox and proclaim that she doesn’t want to say that she’s not “a member” because she doesn’t want to support the prejudice. Lyin’ outta one side of her mouth, preachin’ outta the other…

Okay I understand and I can't really disagree. The Vulcans (other than T'Pol) do not seem to fit the pattern we know from TOS - of course how many Vulcans do we see in TOS? 5? Spock, Sarek, T'Pau, T'Pring, and Stonn. The last 2 certainly must have been somewhat emotional (even though they had 'logical' reasons for wanting to hook up).
(now I sound like a geek)
As for Surak, I think he's jamming with Abe Lincoln somewhere.

Check out this site for keen analysis of this episode. Go to the bathroom first, so you don't piss your pants reading this.

MAN, that was even more painful than watching an episode.
Thanks for the tip about going to the bathroom. But that was so long and rambling, I still had to go twice before I could finish. That dude makes my rants seem almost coherent.
