I wonder if :
the horrible treatment of which everyone speaks will indeed be performed on Syd with unexpected results. Maybe instead of jogging her memory on who she once was it will actually turn her into that person?

Its funny, just a couple of weeks ago, we all were moaning about Jack, but now he's our favorite character.
What's the point in taking out Lauren now? She already squealed to Lindsey who probably informed the NSC.

And once Dixon gets back to his usual bada$$ self we'll all be going "why exactly were we compaining about him again?"
We just have less patience than the writers I suppose.

Generally speaking, is anyone else disappointed that Syd was basically brainwashed/programmed for 2 years? IIRC, after last season's finale everyone was excited by the possibilities for this year - was it a time machine, was she a clone, etc.
IMO the brainwashing angle is pretty much a soap opera cliche. I remember watching Days of Our Lives in college, and there were TWO characters who had that storyline.
I wouldn't put it past JJ to swerve us again, but it seems pretty clear she wasn't time traveling. I think the clone idea would be pretty lame at this point, since they pretty much exhausted it last year.

Here's something from tvguide.com on Lena Olin's future with the show
That's to bad but I say **** her and recast the role. I like Lena but she's kidding herself if she think's her name on a show is worth the same as Sharon Stone's.
Irina is too important a character to to just forget about.
Alias villainess Lena Olin seems to be taking her role as Jennifer Garner's absentee mom, Irina Derevko, a little too literally. As reported in the new issue of TV Guide magazine, the actress nixed a deal to return this season despite the fact that, as a source close to the negotiations puts it, "every single one of her demands were met by ABC and the producers." Among her initial requests: "Sharon Stone-type money," says an insider, referring to the unprecedented $100,000-per-episode salary the Basic Instinct star reportedly pulled in for her recent Practice stint. ABC declined to comment, as did Olin's camp, but Alias exec producer J.J. Abrams is holding out hope that Olin will be back. "[Irina] remains a critical piece of the puzzle." Albeit an expensive one.

Okay - if they were to recast, who would you suggest?

Ok, I am really late watching this episode, but all I've got to say was WOW. What a great episode!
I loved how Syd got all Scarlett O'Hara-crafty by using the draperies in her fight scene.![LOL](/images/smilies/lol.gif)
I think Lauren is what Will was in the first season. Remember how everyone hated him because all he did was try to expose Sydney's secret life? Of course he was doing it ignorantly, and Lauren is just a bitch.
I so loved Jack this episode, and Vaughn finally redeemed himself.
