Brigett from 8 Simple Rules. She is stuck up and superficial, and it seems that no matter what, things always work out perfect for her no matter how wrong or nasty she is.

I also hate Janice, but isn't that the point of her character? They don't make her sympathetic AT ALL. With regards to the other characters listed I don't think the writers of the shows say to themselves "I want the audience to HATE this character."

Definitely Lana on Smallville. And what sucks is they can't kill her off since she's such a key figure in Clark's life during his teenage years.
I hated Oliver on The O.C. with a passion, but he only lasted about 5-6 episodes and then he was gone(and remember, this season of The O.C. is 27 episodes, so that helps minimize the damage he did). Chloe on 24 also sucks, but she's a minor character on the show.
Lana on the other hand is front and center nearly every week. She's always having her life put in danger, she always suspects Clark is keeping a secret from her, and their relationship never progresses anywhere. She's easily the most worthless character on any primetime show right now given all the screentime she gets.

Oliver still leaves a bad taste in my mouth
The last episode of the OC was just such a joy, the cast interactions was just divine
WHen Oliver was there i had to force myself to watch the OC, kinda like when i was a kid and my mum made me finish my liver for lunch.

This is a great thread, but mine might not be the actual character that I hate so much. Mine's the dad on Joan of Arcadia. It's bad enough that there's already so many detective shows on TV, but they also have to insert a detective story into practically every episode of this show too even though it almost never has any bearing on the rest of the episode. I also can't stand Joe Mantegna. His acting has been terrible on the show.
Can someone explain to me why there's so many Lana answers? I'm probably biased because I've grown to hate Smallville, but Lana's definitely not the most annoying character on Smallville much less on all of TV. Oddly enough, in previous years, I would've actually probably responded Chloe and Pete as the answer to this thread, but they've been much less annoying this year. Maybe it's just because they've had smaller roles. I think the most annoying characters on Smallville right now would either be Clark's parents because they only ever seem to be there for plot points or the Luthors because of all the wasted potential.
I know I'm forgetting somebody. How about the entire cast of The Practice except for Spader and Mitra? I used to like everybody in that show, but I can't believe how badly all of the old characters have been written even this year when I've actually really liked The Practice.
