I think the show will always survive as long as they trot hot looking women out. I occassionaly watch it cause the blonde is hot and the other host (Candice?) is pretty cute. The demographic of this show is 90% males, and I'm sure looking at pretty women for an hour along with tech stuff is what sells the show?

The 2 girls have hosted the show together a couple of times, but it just doesn't work long term.

Yes but we like it when the women actually look and sound like they really do know what all the tech info is and actually play the games.

We know Morgan lives and breathes it. For all intents and purposes, Munn really knew how to fake it. Haslip lives and breathes it now over on Nerdist.

The rest? They all don't really know how to fake it.

I'd say that Chobot lives and breaths it as much as the others, if not more.

Sessler left a couple weeks ago in a contract dispute. The word came down after his last episode of X-Play aired, meaning there was no mention of it on the show, and there will probably be no homage to him, despite the fact he hosted the show for 14 years (predating G4 and even TechTV).

Morgan Webb is presumably still with G4, but X-Play has been in reruns since Sessler's last episode. It comes back on Monday with new episodes, so we'll see the new format then.

To me, it just seems like G4 went and low balled Sessler and Periera with this round of contracts, and both decided to walk. This could be the final step in G4 either being rebranded or possibly sold off to the WWE to launch their network.

This is not new territory for G4. Anyone else remember that incident with Arena hosts Wil Wheaton and Travis Oates?

G4 is toast. Pretty clear the two guys figured out. People who have worked there for over a decade just don't both leave within weeks of each other.

As long as some other channel picks up Ninja Warrior, I don't care. AOTS has been dead to me since Munn left.

Wasn't thinking of Chobot as any kind of regular part of the group, but you're right and I should have.

I guess it's possible my disdain is just some form of veiled self-loathing.
I think you're wrong, actually. I think you would be the target audience if you were 10 years (or better) younger. I didn't think AOTS was a horrible show. I of course lamented the loss of the Screen Savers many moons ago, but this show a different beast from that. Maybe the shows share the same lineage, but AOTS was definitely its own thing. And I think it was fine for what it was, but I never really cared for Maxim magazine, which is exactly what AOTS was -- Maxim on TV. I, like I imagine you, need a bit more meat with all the fat AOTS delivers. I too found the show to be a bit obnoxious with its forced humor, and while it wasn't for me, I could easily see why the show appealed to so many. What would have been perfect is if AOTS was a little more like The Screen Savers, or The Screen Savers was a little more like AOTS (cause as informative as TSS was, the hosts were a little dry on that show).

That can't hurt things, surely, but you also have to have hosts with a little personality. I've only watched AOTS sporadically over the last 5 years or so, but that Hayslip girl was the perfect potential host for AOTS, but I guess G4 didn't lock her up quick enough. Lucky for her, as I think she's probably going to end better for it, because she's got that really likeable girl next door shit locked down.

I wager all original programming is gone from G4 by the end of summer.

I don't think you're the demographic for this show... I think it skews much younger (either that or I just think old, because it seemed way too flashy for me with bits of interesting content here and there). Seemed like a ton of fratboy type of humor, so maybe more college aged? The old screensavers probably went after our demographic a lot better.

Re: Attack of the Show appreciation thread

If G4 implodes I just hope that spike or someone picks up Ninja Warrior (like was said above). I really liked Jump City too, but that is nowhere to be found (probably because of Levi's injury).

It is weird to see this mass exodus.

I will miss the adorableness that is Sara Underwood when the show goes away.

NBC themselves have been promoting that American Ninja Warrior will be airing on their network, at least the later rounds and final are. So if G4 goes away, they could push it over to NBC Sports Network.

Re: Attack of the Show appreciation thread

Losing KP and Sessler at the same time is a huge blow to the network. But I think they can be replaced.

Sessler is probably the easiest to replace. It seems like Man-Blair can easily fill Adam's shoes.

But they'll have to bring in someone totally new to replace KP. They've got plenty of chicks to choose from, but the show doesn't work very well with two girls hosting.

Too bad, because Candace and Kevin were just starting to gel as co-hosts. And with Sara, the 3 of them made a fun show.

Re: Attack of the Show appreciation thread

X-Play aired its first new episode since the departure of Adam Sessler, and expected, Blair Herter has taken over co-host duties. Morgan Webb is still there. No mention of Sessler, but no shock there.

Does G4 have much other programming? I just see a lot of Cops and infomercials.

When he's not part of E3, that's when people will really notice as well. He's a great interviewer with the video game people so that's a huge missing component.

As it is, I'll be waiting to see if Perriera decides to pull a Munn at E3 since that's his last assignment with the company after he stops hosting AOTS and does any "scorched earth" interviews like she did when she left like the one with David Jaffe.

Re: Attack of the Show appreciation thread

Just a reminder...tonight is Kevin's final show as host of AOTS. There will be appearances from previous AOTS people...not sure if Munn will be on or not.

After this, Kevin will still be doing G4's E3 coverage next week.

Re: Attack of the Show appreciation thread

Munn did actually participate. They even had Sarah Lane, Zach Selwyn, and just about everyone else that's currently with the network. Then they had a bunch of chicks I've never heard of that apparently guest hosted over the years.

This was a video segment, they weren't in studio.

The closing video was pretty good as well, with Kevin being killed off by Dude Manrod ("That's how you quit a show, pussy!")

Tuesday's show was actually pretty good too. They had the original president of G4 on as a guest and they actually touched on the TechTV merger and how he screwed it up. I found it refreshing that the guy actually came on and admitted that he didn't handle the merger properly, and Kevin talked about how it was tough for him as he was the face of the merger.
