I can breathe a big sigh of relief now. They fixed nearly every problem I had with this season all in one episode. I don't even care how unrealistic it is. I had a feeling I was going to like this episode between Coach coming back home and the road trip to Mexico. I love Riggins' plan to stop Street. No, don't tell an adult Lyla. Come down here to Mexico and the two of us will talk him out of it because he trusts us!

McGregor should have been fired for letting Landry make the team.

I don't know about you, but when I was a teenager, I outwardly respected my teachers and other adults more than my own parents, because I, like most teenagers, was trying to go my own way and break the influence they hold over me. I think this situation is real enough. The writers are being smart about it.

Just watched last night.

Street and Lyla are dead weight and need to go. Mexico? Ugh. Sending a hot high school chick to speak to a bunch of guys in JDC? groan.

Everything else seems to be getting back on track though. Still not a fan of the murder plot, but it has been handled very well. I'd say this episode was more on par with season 1 than any of the others.

i agree with your last statement, i have no sympathy for her either.

but in terms of the rest i've quoted. yes, i know plenty of young people who would help out their mom with a new baby, and be respectful, etc. but i also know tons that would not and have not. basiclly, i don't think this is a contrived plot device, nor do i think it is unrealistic. whether the rest of hollywood thinks rebellious teens are the norm is irrelevant here. i think it works in the context of this show.

so going back to last season, i could also see why her rebellious streak happened. her first real boyfriend - man, i don't know about you, but when i was in high school, i broke A LOT of my parents rules (especially curfew) because of wanting to be with the girl i was dating. that's high school for you. throw in the fact that she was dating the quarterback, who her dad had tried to scare away from dating her, and that's the ultimate "do it just because your parents don't want you to" situation.

and i do agree that the situations Julie were in were dangerous. yes, it's dangerous to go to a bar. but it happened once, and she knew how stupid she was. you could tell she still has a good head on her shoulders (passing on the pot, realizing the swede was bad news). yes, she could have been attacked. that's dangerous. but she was in over her head. that's realistic.
