The uncomfortable interview aired a little while back when he was interviewing Nicole Kidman. She totally didn't like his questions, which weren't bad, in fact she was kind of mean to him. Then his next interview was with Simon Baker, a friend of Nicole Kidmans. He was sort of being mean to Dave. Dave wasn't sure what was going on, and asked Simon if maybe he, Simon, and Nicole could go to dinner together someday to which Simon replied, "Fat chance of that happening" while laughing. Suddenly the cut goes to David saying goodbye to him with no laughter going on. You could tell it had been edited right there. Everyone looked pissed off.

Yes it was standing straight up! Letterman made her cry, but you could tell he was sympathetic and sorry for upsetting her, but then, John Candy came out after with his hair standing straight up, and Letterman responded, What the... is there some kind of leak back there????

A friend of mine was good friends with Nastassia, and I asked her to ask her about it, but Nastassia really didn't have much of a memory of it...

As for the Nicole Kidman interview, she seemed rather icey.

As far as Letterman goes, none of this can compare with the awesomely awkward Crispin Glover interview from back in the day. If anything, it's Letterman and his audience that come off as the assholes. Obviously they just don't "get" Glover. Conan would have been perfectly simpatico.

Dave was famous for being nasty towards Richard Simmons. Made fun of his hair, shiny legs and short shorts. I think he even sprayed him with a fire extinguisher. Some of it looked real and then when Simmons return, some of it looked staged.

Then there were his exchanges with Madonna. Not that she didn't deserve it.

Richard Simmons seems to be the only one Leno lets loose on as well. The guy is relentless with him. It's like the one time a year Leno busts out of his shell.

I think one problem with Letterman that he hasn't completely overcome is his habit of driving guests crazy at times (he was notorious for doing that during the 1980's). That's something that Leno is far less likely to do.

Leno drives me crazy, at least with Letterman you might get something interesting and entertaining and not just some softball ass kissing interview.

The big problem with letterman is that his weird awkward sense of humor was great when he was younger, but now that he's older it comes accross more and more as creepy and cranky, especially when he interviews women.

Also, as far as one sided/bias, I'd rather see a talk show host with a stance and personality instead of someone who is just a body asking questions. Someone with a view point and an opinion is going to get something more interesting out of the guests than "I have a new movie out, here are some 'funny' stories I already went over in our preinterview and that you have pre-arranged questions about"

I guess you don't watch Craig Ferguson then, because that's all he's about. He has a loose outline for a monologue and mostly ad-libs it. As for interviews he pretty much avoids what the guests are there to promote and just shoots the shit with 'em.

His only downfall is the skits. They are usually not very good.

I'm a Leno fan and don't normally like or "get" Letterman- but I didn't see anything wrong with this interview. Paula did seem to take it all in stride and play along a bit. She obviously got uncomfortable about the stalker, but he didn't push the issue very far. Now the Paris Hilton interview that was discussed a while ago- that was bad.
