Sit Down, Shut Up -- "Pilot" -- 04/19/09 (FOX's new animated series)
From Mitchell Hurwitz, creator of "Arrested Development" of course. FOX's newest animated series 4/19/09 @ 8:30pm EST.
Voices of:
Will Arnett
Jason Bateman
Henry Winkler
Kristin Chenoweth
Cheri Oteri
Will Forte
Tom Kenny
Nick Kroll
Kenan Thompson
Spoiler:
i got to say, i am not a big fan of primetime animated series and don't watch a one, but this one really intrigues me because i am a teacher. it seems like the anti-what to do in school show and the commercials really have me psyched for this show.
hell- i have and would never even use the term "Shut Up" to a student. i just have a good feeling about this one and wanted to see who is with me and if anyone has heard any early buzz.
i just hope FOX doesn't treat it like Hurwitz's other baby in AD. seems like 7 episodes are already done, so hopefully it goes well and people watch.

the animation looks terrible, but the talent behind it makes it worth watching alone. i'm there.

I'm going to watch it for sure. It looks funny and the people involved are all fantastic. But personally, I would have preferred if FOX kept King of the Hill on air instead of picking this up, but whatever.
This show is bound to get canceled though, which is unfortunate because it looks promising, thus leaving FOX's "Animation Domination" as just The Simpsons + 1.5 Hours of Seth McFarlane.

Haven't even heard about this show, but I like the talent involved, so I'll check it out.

I forgot that Henry Winkler will break my knees if I don't email everyone to watch this show.

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't think that Fox mistreated Arrested Development at all. For any show to go past 2 seasons on Fox is surprising, and they put a lot of advertisement behind the show, IIRC. In the end, viewership just wasn't there.
Sorry to rant, just sometimes feel like I'm the only one who feels the show had been given proper room to grow and find an audience, and went out just as strong as it went in. At least we got a series finale.
Back on topic, I'll check the new show out. Looks pretty good.

Seems like every review slammed this show...I'll likely DVR it but don't know if I'll get around to watching it.

Well that was certainly underwhelming, especially considering the talent involved. It seems a little too low-brow for my tastes.

They canceled King of the Hill and replaced it with this? Big let down...simply dreadful.

No kidding. KOTH had probably run its course but it was one of the best animated shows of all time and should have ended on its own terms. Even the worst episode of KOTH was better than this show!

I had no expectations because it was the first episode and I realize it may take a few episodes to start hitting its stride. I was still underwhelmed.

Well, my expectations were unrealistically high, given the talent involved. So it obviously fell short of that.
However, judged on its own merits (and not comparing it to "Arrested Development"), I thought it was generally fine, with more slow parts than funny parts. The "I need a catchphrase" line was funny, and there were other jokes that were kind of hit and miss. Just kind of some dumb fun, but nothing to get too worked up about. Overall, about a 5.5 or 6 out of 10.
Now, comparing it to AD, what I thought was odd was how Hurwitz could be involved in a show that's not really character-driven. Everybody is a caricature, and it seemed to be a race to end of the show, throwing out as many jokes, gags, etc. along the way as possible, hoping they were funny.
In fact, it almost seemed like Hurwitz's "response" to a network/audience that fawns over "Family Guy" and lets AD get canceled. Basically like saying"You want low-brow animation with no real characters or plot? Here you go. Laugh."
I'll give it another couple of episodes, but I don't have real high hopes for it.
