I kind of figure dex will hand them over. Then it becomes a replay of harry raising dexter by himself.

Not to mention their familiarity with "kyle butler" the guy who died days ago, yet was also just at their house when the swat team came in. You'd think that would come up in an interview. But I'm guessing the transfer of the case to the fbi means that detail gets lost so we can move on.

Meh. The "shocking" ending would have been a lot more shocking if we hadn't had the cast and crew pimping it for months.

Season 5 opening:

Spoiler:
Dexter wakes up for a horrible nightmare in bed next to Rita, in the Keys or back at home. I hope not, she was getting really annoying.

Maybe?

^ that would be a total cop out. After the episode they had that discussion with Hall and Lithgow and he was saying "how will Dexter handle this, is it going to be all about vengeance"

He actually said with certainty that it will be interesting to see Dexter looking to get unobtainable vengeance.

A lot of questions. Do you not have Showtime?

Solid episode. Shocked about the death but as much as I like Benz, I really disliked the character.

As much as I like the show, I can't wait to see how the series all ends...does Dex get caught and arrested? Is he killed?

How many seasons is the show under contract for?

I actually liked the character but didn't like what they did to her this year. Not that she didn't have a reason to be mad at Dexter, but I thought they played it wrong.

As for Benz, she was a pretty woman, but I found the face work that she had gotten prior to this year distracting. It made her look different and less attractive.

As far as game changers go though she was really the only character they could kill and was who I expected to die in episode four when it leaked that a major character would die.

What they do with Cody and Astor should be interesting. I can't see Dexter completely abandoning them.

The only purpose she was serving was to whine and Julie Benz really shown in previous work that she is worthy of more.

Re: Dexter -- "The Getaway" -- 12/13/09

WOW.

Now I am wondering how Dexter reports Rita's murder. Does he cover it up or risk the police wondering why Trinity would kill Rita on his way out of town. I supposed Dexter could recall how he saw Trinity looking at the crime board at the station and that might explain the motive. But Deb is definitely going to be suspicious what with Dexter's tie in to the the Ice truck Killer, now Trinity.

It seems clear that Deb will figure out exactly what Dexter is next season, and I suspect the "big bad" will be Dexter himself. Will Dexter wind up in jail, or will the dark passenger win and Deb herself wind up on his table.

Dexter should have figured out that Rita was dead because she wasn't calling and bugging him while he killed Trinity.

I think we're in basic agreement. I like Julie Benz (at least before the face work), but I didn't care for what they did to the Rita character this year.

I loled, for real. But seriously, I went from shocked to sad. I keep picturing the baby in blood next to it's dead mother. I know it's just a show, but you gotta feel bad for those kids with the asshole drug addict father and now with their murdered mother. God damn.

Re: Dexter -- "The Getaway" -- 12/13/09

As everyone has said in this thread......WOW

I had a really strong feeling that either

Spoiler:
Laguerta or Rita were going to be killed off

Neither of them are particularly interesting characters, with the writers really struggling over 4 Seasons to give them something more to do/make them interesting.

Also if anyone wants to chime in?

Spoiler:
When did Arthur have time to kill Rita? I'm trying to recall the time line of the events. The only thing that make sense to me (if my time line is correct) is when we have the shot of Arthur driving off in daylight with his new painted Mustang smiling, he was smiling because of what he did to Dexter's Wife. Then again I can't remember if that happened after or before Dexter told Rita to leave town/Dexter finding the Body Shop receipt

Re: Dexter -- "The Getaway" -- 12/13/09

My take on the timeline:
Spoiler:
I'd imagine that he did it when the police / Dexter were at his house. Dexter assumed he was clear since the kids were with the grandparents and Rita was on her way to the airport. I think Dexter was hiding in the backseat / trunk of the Mustang, since there's really no other way he would've caught Arthur like that.

Wow, great stuff. Anticipation for next season is pretty big. If it is the last, I hope this show goes out with a bang.

Exactly. I doubt they'll piss off people like The Sopranos did with Tony not being killed.

Dexter is a dead man if Season 5 is the last one, which Hall says it is.

Also, what "work or plastic surgery" did Rita have done before this season? It's been a while since I've seen the earlier seasons so I didn't really notice anything...

Would reporting the murder (and having it look like a Trinity killing) really be suspicious? The police already know Trinity's daughter shot Lundy and Deb to protect her father. And the daughter shot herself, based on Deb's policework, which might upset Trinity. So he goes after Deb's family - the police would look at it as a revenge killing. If anything, I would think Deb would be feeling responsible (not knowing the truth about Dexter and Trinity). Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out next season.

Re: Dexter -- "The Getaway" -- 12/13/09

While passing up opportunities to kill Trinity had become a running gag this season, I found myself talking to the television when Dexter left an unconscious Arthur Mitchell alone in his van so that he could go deal with a minor traffic violation. You're extorting money from a serial killer who knows your real name and you don't snap his neck before dealing with a $300 accident? I doubt the writers will consider it, but I wonder if Dexter might feel a bit of guilt for waiting so long to kill Trinity.
