Spoiler:

Actually they have mentioned in one of the interviews that Kate didn't kill her father in this new timeline, she killed a janitor or someone else. So in the end they are almost the same but with a few differences in their flashbacks.
They also said that if Jack and co. thought that the bomb would only change their lives they are wrong.

A few "differences" in time can make a whole lot of difference in the big picture.

I'm going to stop the spoiler madness now

Regardless, it's impossible to predict what they could pull out of a hat. Remember there was also a trip to 1954. There could also be any number of factors that haven't been revealed yet.

What? I thought they made it pretty clear that every character was now different in some way. Obviously something different happened prior to them being on the plane otherwise Shannon would be there and Desmond would not.

Yes you are right. I think Free Will and our choices is the game. The whole thing is to test whether man is essentially good or evil.

I would just like to point out a little trivia since someone brought vampires up. Bram shares the same name as Bram Stoker, and he died by getting a stake through the heart.

Yeah, and that something different that happened was the bomb. Previously, only the incident had occurred which led to the crash. The losties were in 1977 when the bomb was hit and they should've disappeared from there completely (no crash). They are there (in 2008 w/the imploded hatch remains) because the other timeline was created. Someone will need to find a way to flash back to 1977 and prevent the bomb from being dropped. Probably starting with Locke contacting Jack via his business card. Jack will remember and gather the rest.

Damn, I'm glad this show is back! Can't wait for my theories to be smashed to bits each week.

well he was protected for a few seconds but Smokey/faux Locke was smart and hit the wall hard making a piece of the ceiling fall on Bram knocking him outside the circle.

That's another thing, I'm not too keen on this Esau = Smoke Monster thing. What's his motivation for killing the people he did (pilot, Eko and Keamy's team, etc.)? What about just terrorizing the Losties chasing them through the jungle? What's the thinking there?

I think I liked it better when Smokey was a separate entity.

If Esau can do it, it makes me think Jacob can as well. It would at least explain the attack on Keamy's team.

I believe the MIB killed Eko because he was attempting to build a church on the island.

I thought Mr Eko was killed because the actor that played him wanted to move back to London.

Here's a paradoxical thought. If Oceanic doesn't crash in the timeline with the island underwater then that means nothing we've previously seen actually happens in that timeline. That includes the time jumping we had in season 5. That means that Farraday doesn't get to go back in the past to warn the Others about the dangers of Jughead. It's very possible that Jughead actually goes off much earlier than 1977.

We don't know for sure what happened because they were behind that sheet, but I believe it was self-defense.

Well, the motivation for killing Keamy's team was to keep them from taking Ben. And wasn't Eko's death speech about how he chose the life he lead instead of being the product of the events in it (free will vs. destiny)? No idea about the pilot, maybe it had something to do with him not supposed to be the one flying the plane (it was supposed to be Lepidas, maybe another free will vs. destiny issue).

I think you can chalk up a lot of the deaths attributed to Smokey to pent up anger and frustration about not being able to come up with a way to kill Jacob over the years. Until dopey Ben showed up and he started to work the really long con.

This. I think Smokey attacked Keamy's team because he wanted Ben to think that he was on his side in a elaborate con game.

Remember what Eloise said to Desmond, "the island is not through with you." This makes me think that he was pulled off the plane and brought to the island along with Christian and the box of knives. Kate and Claire will no doubt discuss her giving up the child which will lead to memory flashes of the island and Aaron. I can see them all getting together with Eloise and Faraday and finding another flight real soon.

Re: Lost: The Final Season -- Season Premiere -- "LA X Part 1&2" -- 02/02/10

Do you think that the Esau as Smokey reveal was planned by the writers from the beginning? Early on, there were various hints that Smokey may be mechanical/technological in nature rather than supernatural in nature, such as the mechanical sounds accompanying its appearances, calling it a "security system", and speculation that it was some type of DHARMA creation/experiment. I wonder if the mechanical sounds were done to divert from the now apparent supernatural origins of the creature. Or maybe they're just making it all up as they go along.
