Nice reflexes from Rick. That dude was totally trying to take him out with a wild swing of the machete. That was in addition to opening both doors instead of just one, AND pushing a walker on him. Three strikes, you're out...

Nice try, though.

On topic:

Great episode. Loved the bit with Rick and the prisoners. The look on that guy's face when he took out Big Tiny made it clear that he couldn't last long. Last season, though, he'd have been around for 3 more episodes.

I wonder who that was in the woods, though, spying on Carol.
Spoiler:
And the helicopter crash in the preview for next week?
Looks good going forward.
Some of us don't watch the previews, so don't want to see spoilers like that...

The best moment in the last two seasons was the conversation between Rick and Lori, with Lori saying everything the audience actually thinks of her. Their marriage is over and that was Rick's way of conveying it to her. She means nothing to him except she may be carrying his child.

Were you aware he played in the NFL after college? And that after only a couple years in Dallas he was shipped to Minnesota and after all the hype was a huge disappointment for the vast majority of his NFL career? That is why he became an easy target for jokes like the one I posted. And also why the trade to get him to Minnesota became the benchmark for epic failures in NFL franchise moves. And as for what I know about college ball and Walker's college career, I was playing at a B10 school at the same time Walker was at Georgia. So enough about that.

Sure I was aware of that. I also know that he went for over 8,000 yds rushing, 4,000 yds receiving, and 5,000 return yds for his NFL career (thanks to Wikipedia), which isn't too shabby. He 61 rushing TDs (84 total) (which, granted, doesn't come out to worldbeater status). So many years after his retirement he's still in the top 10 in total yards for the NFL even though he played in the USFL for three years.

And if you played at a B10 school while he was at UGA, would you agree that he was one of the top players and athletes of your generation? He was also an Olympic bobsledder and an MMA fighter at the age of 50, so that's pretty good, I guess.

Also, sorry for the spoiler on the previews for next week. My mistake.

Walker is one of the most physically impressive dudes out there IMO. The guy pretty much only does sit ups and pushups.

I really liked how Rick just killed that guy outright. It shows the writers are taking the changes in this character seriously. The dude was reckless, obviously unstable, and put everyone in danger. Rick just isn't going to stand for that stuff anymore. He needs to look after his group, that's his focus now.

I certainly hope the show is done with the moral-dilemma-of-the-week format that was in place last season and just runs with the reality of this new world.

Nobody cares about the football player bullshit. Go talk about it HERE if you have to run on about whether some athlete's meaningless accomplishments were great or terrible.

I'm sure we could get a nice discussion about abortion going in here as well.

If you want to be pedantic about it, you're correct that apparently a certain few people care about the completely off-topic subject of some washed up athlete, or which poster can claim the most credibility when discussing said washed up athlete. If only there was a place where people could go discuss that without derailing an on-topic thread...

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Sick" -- 10/21/12

The great thing about the Internet is that every person wants to have the last word, and from there things go to crap quickly.

How about that machete to the head, though? A friend said, like many of you here, "I worry about Rick's humanity", but I think that's out the window. Everything is so tribal now that humanity means doing what it takes to survive and what is the definition of "good". That guy was insane, and he'd have had his way with the survivors if he had killed Rick there. Nothing good would have come of that; Rick, though, gave him a chance to prove himself and when he showed he was a threat, he had to off him.

Whether that means Rick is becoming Shane, I don't know. Leaving those guys on their own in the other block, though, shows he still has some decency, right?

Shane would have said to kill them immediately, and then to simply take their food. Rick at least gave them a chance.

Yeesh, that Hirschel Walker joke sure went in a different direction than expected.

Yeah, I don't think Rick is becoming Shane. Shane was pretty much a psychopath, while Rick simply killed a guy that tried to kill him three times in about a minute. The other guy that he left outside was certainly not trustworthy, either. Rick certainly is more ruthless than he previously was, but it's not without reason.

Whining about it when a few people are talking about it makes you look like a well like I said a whiner. It's a message board where we are few to talk about things/subjects sometimes subjects that may not specifically pertain to the topic we're posting in. That happens get over it. Stop trying to be the board dictator. If you don't want to discuss what were talking about fine don't but don't tell us what to discuss.

That's why I was a fan of Shane, he is Lord Elrond who foresee it before sh*t hits the fan.

Great stuff. Rick was in his badass element. at him using the machete to kill to Tomas. Lots of sick kills in this episode.

at Tomas taking out Big Tiny.

I agree with an earlier comment that for all intents and purposes Rick's and Lori's marriage is over and they are just together in the group to survive with her bringing their kid in the world. at Lori saying she's a bad wife and Mom. at the bitch getting mad at Carl for getting the meds.

Really surprised that Herschel pulled through.

That scene was great. I liked how the camera panned past Rick, Daryl and T-Dog shaking their heads at what dumbasses they were.

I almost expected that to be the point where the prisoners went down. I thought for sure they'd get bitten or scratched, and then the guys would have to take them out. The way it was resolved was much better, though.

I wonder if we'll hear anything else from the prisoners of if they'll be like the guy Rick met in the pilot episode before leaving Atlanta.

I've been thinking about that since watching the episode. I don't know anything about the comics, so this is all just speculation, but I wonder if during the ordeal Herschel was "clinicly dead" and that was enough to activate the virus. How would that work? Could he take on the attributes of the walkers while still being alive?

I know he's gone through a lot in the last day or two, having his leg chopped off at all that, but something about the way they focused on his eyes suggests to me all is not right with Herschel.
