Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

I still have some catching up to do, but here is week 4, finishing out the season.

  • No Contest
  • Pick a Con...Any Con
  • Someone Single, Someone Blue
  • Showdown, Part 1
  • Showdown, Part 2

I was kind of hoping that Sam at Eleven would be when he sat in as sports anchor but no such luck. Oh well.

Are we going to keep going next week, or make it one season per month and start the next one February 1st? I don't mind either way, but waiting to start season 2 in Feb. would make it easier for people to catch up if they get behind.

Yeah, if we continue then I'd propose a break for a week or two. I also liked Corvin's idea of doing a medley of shows, so maybe we can start up both, or stagger the timing.

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

I was thinking we should do season one of Frasier in Feb. and Cheers season two in March.

Well, it would take forever to get through Cheers in that case. I think Fraiser should be a separate club that doesn't put Cheers on hold.

Another good thing about doing one per month is that later seasons have 26 episodes, so starting with the 4th week you'd have some extra days to watch the 8 (or more) episodes.

Personally I wouldn't want to start Frasier until we at least get a season of him on Cheers.

My vote would be to begin season 2 on February 1st and continue with doing one season per month.

I'm already falling behind. I might drop out of the discussion, watch it when I can, then come and see what other people said. Maybe pipe in if there's something I feel real strongly about.

I've fallen a little behind, but I should be able to finish by the end of the month. I'm all in favor of starting S2 on Feb 1.

I've just been randomly adding my comments two weeks after everyone else has said the same thing.

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

Finished season 1 tonight. Favorite episode in the last bunch was again the one which featured Harry Anderson (Pick a Con...Any Con). I didn't realize that half of his appearances on Cheers were during the first season (3 of 6 total).

It had been so long since I had seen the two part finale, that I couldn't remember that it was Diane's interest in Sam's brother which kind of led to them getting together. Also, when Sam's brother was mentioned, I immediately thought how I never remembered his character and couldn't picture him. No wonder, since they intentionally never showed us his face.

Just watched No Contest and Pick a Con...Any Con, I remembered the plots and a few lines from when they originally aired. Or a rerun in the '80s.

I saw that Harry was smoking in Pick a Con...Any Con, that was the first time I noticed anybody smoking though I see ashtrays on the tables (always clean).

I'm really sorry, I really wanted to be in on this but have fallen so far behind and we've not even finished Season 1... :-(

Now Pitching, Sam Malone

Coach was the highlight here. Good to see Norm and Cliff starting to sit next to each other more frequently.

The scene between Sam & Diane at the end was "good" too.

Let me Count the Ways
Great cold open. at Carla making her arm hair raise at will.

Coach telling the story of his grandpa and his dog Bruno almost felt more like a Hanover story from Woody. Kinda weird thinking that, but definitely funny.

Three bites of a pretzel.

Father Knows Last

Ernie 'Coach' Pantusso: Yeah, Norm, how come you and Vera never had any kids?
Norm Peterson: I can't, Coach.
Ernie 'Coach' Pantusso: Gee, I'm sorry Norm.
Norm Peterson: I look at Vera, and I just can't.

Cold open was great! Loved Norm being alone in the bar.

"Wow...you give broads a good name!"

at Coach's comment to Sam's smile.

Uh oh....Sammy's in trouble with Miss Chambers again....

"Alright, everybody line up for the ugliest tongue contest"

Let Me Count the Ways

Haha Marshall is the best! Looks like he fell out of Revenge of the Nerds.

Watch your tongue Marshall.

Watch the first 3 seasons of Coach reminds me of watching the first 3 seasons of MASH with Henry....really loved bother characters and was sad when Coach died and Henry left the show.

at everyone's reaction to Elizabeth dying.

Coach was great trying to not be nervous about betting on the game.

No, no, no.....a cat is different....."Yea, you can't flush a cat."

We're sharing our grief!

Diane's Perfect Date

at Diane's date from the weekend.

Norm's spruced up resume.

Anyone else notice Diane's shirt button right to her neck, looks like it could strangle her.

Geez thanks Sam....I have lost a few pounds

I really want one of those sports jackets with the elbow pads, call me crazy.

Norm and Cliff cat-calling at Sam while he gets ready lol.

The date Diane got for Sam looks like a Jodie Foster.

"What are you looking at endomorph:

Andy Andy making his first of a few appearances.

The catching a torch conversation was pretty good at the end.

I'm only two discs away from finishing season 11 and then I can say that I've seen every episode of Cheers!

Andy Andy also makes a brief appearance in S11 pre-credits wearing a dynamite vest and says he's looking for Diane. haha

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

Watched Diane's Perfect Date earlier.

For once, Coach didn't have all the best moments. Sam getting ready for the date behind the bar was classic. I LOVED Norm's resume revisions. "An accountant the whole family can see!"

Not much else to add. Pretty average episode.

Oh, you're right. I ran through season 11 in Dec. What a great friggin' call back.

I'd seen that episode of 11, but I don't think I saw that S1 ep. with him. Now that's pretty cool.
