All the pineapple talk : Did it have any importance beyond that S1 episode? Because it hardly seemed like a big deal to me in that episode (beyond being the title of the episode). If I never find out how a pinapple got into Ted's room, I'd be okay with that. If it were a recurring joke, I guess maybe that's different.

I've ranted about this finale enough in other places, so just let me say that I didn't care for it. Nine seasons of them telling us "Robin's not the mother", only to end with "......but surprise, she's who Ted really ends up with after his wife tragically dies young!" really sucked and I didn't like it at all.

I don't know, I still feel the first half of the episode wrapped up the "How I Met Your Mother" story and the second half was more of "and then what".

BTW : They did tell you the Mother's name before! I just happened to be watching a S1 episode this week and in the end of the Thanksgiving episode, Ted talks to a stripper in a club. She introduces herself as "I'm Amber...(whispers) Actually I'm Tracy". Narrator Ted then says "and that's how I met your mother!" The kids freak out, then he says "I'm only kidding!" But in order for the joke to work, her name HAD to be Tracy.

But everyone, including me, is so mad at the show right now that don't want to talk about that.

Thought it was a great end to the series. Also the funniest ep in a while.
Minor complaint: When Ted is supposedly in the same room as the kids, the lighting/cinematography doesn't match at all. It looks as fake as it is.

So IGN is reporting that Bays & Thomas will be adding an alternate ending to the show on the 9th season DVD set as well as the complete series DVD set:
I don't know what to think about this. According to every interview I've read with these dumbasses they had the ending in their head since day one of the series and NOW they're saying that they actually had TWO endings in the can but chose the one that would upset the most people? I have no doubt they've recut something to appease the legion of angry fans. Too little too late for me. I wonder what their ending is and how it could possible be any better than the fan-made ending posted here earlier.
My guess, in this alternate ending instead of dying a slow death by despise, the mother is hit by a bus. The end.
"So anyway, here's a bit of news: 16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings. We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too. We're going to include that version on the Complete Series DVD as an alternate finale to How I Met Your Mother."

They can ignore that the mother dies, because they talked about that in the previous episodes, so...
Are they going to change the whole last episode? Because that's what's wrong. Barney and Robin divorcing, and all of that.
Yeah, after thinking more about it, there is no way they can fix it.

Watched it again last night. Decided it was worse the second time around. Spend an entire season on one weekend then to blast through years in 50 minutes.

That's because the footage with the kids was shot nine years ago whereas the footage with Ted was shot less than 60 days ago.

The writers are retards if they didn't think there'd be a big backlash over their ending. They obviously didn't put themselves in the viewers shoes and also haven't been paying attention on the net during the shows run.
The only fix they can do is similar to the alternate ending provided in this thread. Tracy will still be dying and Robin/Barney are still divorced - the only difference will be that it will probably end with their meeting at the train station (maybe adding in something with the kids)... but there'll be no going after Robin.
Personally, my major problem (no saluting pun intended) is with going after Robin. That's THE biggest sin that winds up doing two terrible things:
- brings up something we wanted to die since forever... Robin/Ted will they/won't they crap
- diminishes the importance of the marriage to Tracy, who is "the one".
If Tracy is going to be dead in the future, we don't want to see Ted bouncing back from it right after we see them meet for the first time. I didn't want the sad ending, but I would've preferred it over the "oh well, Tracy's dead... time to go after Robin after pining for her for 25 years straight".
The whole season felt negated because it glossed over the mother and went back to Robin in the end, as well as dedicating it to a wedding weekend that ended in a divorce minutes after they tied the knot.
How could the writers not see what they were doing?

so was the mother of Barney's kid also part of his life after the kid was born? she was never shown
I wonder if they filmed a few different final scenes with Ted's kids (with different plot points/outcomes) years ago or just the one we saw?

Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Hang on a damn minute here.
From the IGN article linked before, did anyone really read the part quoted in this thread?
Specifically, what is up with this:
It doesn't say the alternate ending is on the ninth season DVD set, it says complete series DVD. What the hell?! The ninth set better have that alternate ending, otherwise its another "screw you" to fans who bought the series sets every year.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - Series Finale - "Last Forever Part 1 & 2" - 3/31/14
My biggest problem with this is the fact that the writers think the Ted/Robin storyline was some kind of magic. I never felt the connection with them and quite frankly, after watching the magic between Ted/Tracy I can't believe they would want us to accept that Ted went back to Robin. Their relationship never had that connection. Major fail.

I only watched the show a couple times a year, but always enjoyed it, so tracked down the finale on YouTube tonight. Not as great as it could/should have been, but not too terrible. I teared up at the Barney holding his newborn daughter scene.

Sometimes you just need to complete your TV sets. I have the 9th season of xfiles

Awesome. And while the season had a majority of awful episodes, there were a nice bunch that I would love to revisit again.

With any luck, the alternate ending would be worse...athough I am not sure how that is possible.
Screw this show.
Still bitter, that's me.
