In all honesty the name "black-ish" is a huge turn off for many of them so they won't even give it a chance. They figure the show is just a bunch of disrespectful shit on TV to make Blacks look like Clowns or sell outs.
LOL, I am finding the same thing around me. My black coworkers that I have convinced to watch the show find it hysterical...but I am finding a lot of others refusing to watch it! No idea why, my son won't even give it a chance. He's 24 and watches Frasier...so go figure. It may be the name, just like Cougar Town had a rough time finding an audience.
I don't care, I will keep watching...it's finding its footing and I find it really funny and a bit true to life (mine anyway!)

Aside from Tracee Ellis Ross's creepy eyes freaking me out, this show is fantastic. One of the best sitcoms to come out in years I think.

She will be the first to tell you she has crazy eyes...she is well aware of them. But she also has a SMOKIN' BODY with a hell of an ass.

Frankly, I love when she wears her hair down and curly.

I was absolutely surprised at how much I enjoyed it, especially in the family trying to learn what it means to be persons of color in today's age, in a new social standing but not making it a soapbox show.

The spanking episode with Traci trying to avoid her son's stare, comedy gold.
Yeah the "What it means to be Black in this day and age" aspect is not necessarily a huge part of the show. I'm guessing that's how this show is crossing over; and how it's pissing off some potential Black viewers. It is like the Cosby show in that the family is "middle class" but clearly there is more of a consciousness towards Black Heritage in the Father and Grandfather.

Middle class? lol...If a household of a doctor and a VP of a marketing company is middle class, I guess I'm basically living in Somalia.

Good Point. I just have a hard time calling them Rich. They seem well off but not filthy stinkin' rich.

Just doing a catch up on these now and I'm enjoying the series a lot.

Had zero idea that the wife was Diana Ross' daughter.

Caught up on Hulu, I like this show.

Not sure where the internet hate comes from, but I assume it's from the same people that had a problem with Dear White People - and not realizing that both have to do with an idea of race that doesn't apply in the modern world.

Really enjoyed the Halloween episode, was fun, poor Josh . Liked the barrage of diabetes jokes and startled black man stats.

re: black-ish (ABC) - Series Thread - premiering 9/24/14

This show just gets better and better to me. When I watched Modern Family, the stories I always enjoyed the most were those of the Dunphy's, and Blackish feels like a different take on Dunphy storylines without having to deal with the (sometimes) bloat of the other wings of the family. I'm just loving the balance of the attention all of the characters get in this show.

And I cannot stress enough how great these kid actors are. And Charlie has grown into a nice addition to the show as well. I really enjoy his small dose, high return, role on the show. Dude is comical.

Blackish over everything right now.

I really like the wife. So many shows have the wife just as the straight man to the husband's wacky adventures, but she seems to be pretty equal to him.

The kids are great as well.

I think they do it right where the straight man is split between the parents equally. It just depends on the situation.

Loved her pulling up in the SLS at the end. Real diamonds are so heavy.

Oddly enough, this show and The Middle pair up better, they're sort of modern TGIF shows (but better than anything back then), than this and Modern Family. But I'm glad this is pulling in strong numbers.

I really agree about Rainbow. She could have so easily been the nagging scoffing wife at Dre's zany antics.

Granted I only watch 2 comedies a week, this and BBT. But this has my biggest laughs of the week and it isn't even close.

I thought the kids were going to play more of a background role but they have all been given distinct personalities that actually work.

I did miss Pops this week.

I checked out this show after Grantland.com did a piece praising the show. I really like it. The spanking episode was absolutely hysterical. I'm definitely setting a season pass for it, and I'm recommending it to my friends.

re: black-ish (ABC) - Series Thread - premiering 9/24/14

Interesting to read the takes on this show. It's weird for me...sometimes I love it, sometimes I think it misses massive opportunities. Personally I don't like the name, because it seems misleading. Admittedly, I don't know what I'd prefer for it to be called, but "black-ish" just seems bizarre. I loved The Bernie Mac Show, and I feel that show tackled race about as much as this show, and I think it would've been weird to have called Bernie's show "black-ish."

With that said, I think the casting of the kids are great. In particular, I think the youngest daughter is probably the best young child (mixing cute and funny) actor I've seen on the screen since Raven Symone on The Cosby Show.

Personally, I think the show falls a little short with the surrounding cast outside of the family, particularly Andre's job. I think they just come across as too over the top--every single person has to be weird or a heightened version of themselves. Just feels unnatural to me, especially the conversations that they have, but that's my personal preference, I guess.

Hennessy shaken not stirred...

"Black people can't be racists"
"I was robbed by a damn Mexican"
"See, totally acceptable"

Love this show.

Love this show, probably the only show that I need to watch as soon as it airs at this point.
