I'm two episodes behind but I like the younger brothers. That early episode of the youngest one losing to his grandma in poker and him freaking out was hilarious.
Last episode I watched and so many LOL moments for me. The mom wishing that Phillip was his son and everyone trying to pair Eddie and Phillip together was classic. Eddie trying to convince his mom with those hip hop CDs was good too.
Oh shit! I just saw the ep. where Eddie was told to show the new Asian kid around. The principle thought they would get along because they were both Chinese. The same thing happened to me last year. Me and some other guy were the only Asians at a high performance driving school and the instructor thought we would get along so he paired us up. We got along just fine but now I'm wondering what was going through the instructor's mind.

Did a binge watch marathon with this lately with my wife and are now caught up. Great show, we both really enjoy it. Not as good as Blackish but I'd put it above most of the other comedies on TV right now.

Maybe FX or TBS should have picked it up.

Eddie Huang isn't happy with the TV show made from his book "Fresh Off the Boat" -- and now he's launched a few torpedoes in its direction.
Huang, the chef whose memoir forms the basis for ABC's comedy about an Asian American family, went on a Twitter tirade against the show on Tuesday night.
"For the record I don't watch" the show, Huang tweeted.
But that didn't stop him from venting his criticisms. He added: "I'm happy people of color are able to see a reflection of themselves" on the series. "But I don't recognize it," he wrote.
Huang said he "stood by" the show initially but "it got so far from the truth that I don't recognize my own life," he wrote, slamming "Fresh Off the Boat" as "artificial." (Didn't he say he doesn't watch it?)
Huang is credited as a producer on the series but apparently has little to do with its day-to-day production.

Funny that he's backtracking, given the articles up the show's launch about how he was making sure it would be different.

Read: They've changed the show enough so as not to pay him any more money than initially discussed.

Kind of bummed that the real Eddie doesn't like what they've done, as I've really enjoyed it.
This last episode was solid again. I don't recall my parents ever telling me about the number 4 superstition growing up, but I understood the reference to the sound of the word (which in itself is kind of silly, it's their own damn language and fault for creating words that sound the same!). Scottie Pippen was pretty funny with everyone being disappointed about him; I'm sure that was pretty much life for him in the 90's with everyone wanting Jordan.

The show is good, but it's not surprising that Huang is distancing himself from it. Often happens with these type of autobiographical shows.

I remember the "4" thing from when i took Japanese. The teacher gave the same explanation about the word for "4" being too close to the word for "Death". My ex is Japanese and she worked in a bank that catered to Chinese customers. They would set aside account numbers with 8's in them because "8" is considered very lucky. I'm guessing account numbers with "4" were avoided.

Still digging the show, including last night's episode. The mom forcing chinese stuff on the kids was another thing I can relate too. Was kind of funny hearing the boys ask why she's dressed like Chun Li

They recycled a couple of King of the Hill and Seinfeld plots in the finale, but I still dug it. Constance Wu is great. Just the gesture she gave to the other real estate agent was hilarious.

Although one thing I was thinking (and some other commenters on another site mentioned this), why were they pushing Chinese culture when they're from Taiwan? China certainly considers Taiwan to be part of China, but people I know from Taiwan see it a little differently.

That actually crossed my mind too as someone who's parents are from Taiwan. I assume they just wanted to pick something more identifiable to the general audience.

True. Taiwan probably would have confused the dumber people

Taiwanese culture in the mainstream is basically Boba Tea, water landings, and annual Food Scandals. My mom used to get so pissed when I called her Chinese ... despite the country being formally named "Republic of China"

Great Ep. The Mom was On Point about not letting the family roots get washed away just to fit in. Both this show and Black-ish have allowed me to stop watching shows about first world white folk problems like Modern Family.
Just kidding!
... but seriously, I can relate to so many of the specific ethnic issues these families go through here in America. Clearly I can relate to some more than others, since I'm Black and not Asian...but the similarities between these cultural and Ethnic issues are there.

I like this and Black-ish, but it is kind of shitty they made this show fend for itself.

I thought Black-ish was the best new network comedy of the season - until Fresh off the Boat came on. Sure they had 2 duds this run but for a first season they killed it - funny, sweet but not overly and Constance Wu and the 2 young kids completely steal the show. ABC would be stupid to not bring this back.

I just marathoned the last few episodes, Constance Wu is the best, I still don't like the little kids.
My family has done the "ward off bad spirits" at a restaurant before... There was chanting, garfield glasses and a lot more firecrackers (lined around the restaurant).

I thought this and blackish were a breath of fresh air. I usually don't go for network sitcoms but this is very entertaining.
"So you treated him differently because he's chinese?"

"Does China amuse you?" Best goodfellas homage ever!
