Didn't get a chance to read through the thread but 'Tru Calling' with Eliza Dusku was a great show that Fox yanked during its 2nd season.

The show started off very formulaic, but when they brought in Jason Priestly that is when the show really took off. I believe it ran for 6 episodes in the 2nd season, and then Fox cancelled it. Really suprised a SyFy Network didn't offer to buy the rights to the show at that time?

It didn't even get that far. They filmed six episodes then Fox cancelled it before the seventh was filmed and never aired any of them.

The 6 episodes of season 2 did air, but they just burned them off over 4 weeks during Spring 2005

The animated Tick was a great show but I question if they could have maintained that level of quality much beyond those three short seasons. I think it would have done much better in today's fractured viewing market with niche audiences. Today it probably would have been marketed much better to adults.

I thought there was a lot of love for the live action Tick series as well. So much so there was talking of bringing it back.

Can't speak for either since I missed both of when they aired. But I'm a big fan of Warburton and should have watched the live action series. I just honestly didn't know where and when it aired during the first run. Read about more after it was canceled then when it was on.

If they handled it the way they handle the Venture Bros., for example, then I think it could have maintained that quality. Of course, different networks and different worlds.

The Hard Times of RJ Berger is missed with the hot Amber Lancaster (model from The Price is Right).

There are some great Warren The Ape segments on YT.

Spoiler:

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

Reading the OP a few of shows immediately popped into my head, but thinking about it more I'm not so sure I could say all of them were "too short lived".

Pushing Daisies, Human Target and Veronica Mars had some of my all time favorite first seasons but they all declined in quality significantly in their second season (and in VM's case a third) before they were canceled. I wouldn't go so far as to say the tank was empty on these shows, but I also can' really say they were canceled before their time.

On the other hand Shows like Firefly, Sarah Connor Chronicles and My So-Called Life were still firing on all cylinders when they were canceled.

I also enjoyed that show. I remember FOX messed with scheduling due to the World Series and George W's state of union adresses.

I watched the unaired episodes on youtube and I thought it improved more. One of the countries that aired the unaired episodes, later did an added narration in the last episode that aired, that stated the creator's intended ending.

If Reunion had been successful, the creator said a second season would be about a new group of friends with possible connections to the characters in season 1. Another premise for additional seasons were that there would be seasons focused on different periods and mysteries.

I now think that if Reunion had premiered several years later, it could have been more successful with people liking season long mystery shows.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

Human Target's second season was creatively a disaster. Most who followed it here, including myself, thought the second season sucked. It lost the magic from season 1 where it was a weekly James Bond movie with a new hot chick every week. Season 2 turned into a goofy action procedural.

I'm glad that FOX canned it. They have only themselves to blame for fucking up a good thing.
