If he survived a point blank finishing shot from a shotgun, then I'll be really disappointed. This isn't GoT.

With the talk of Pizzolatto wanting Brad Pitt, I have to wonder which part he wanted him for. Farrel's initially seemed most likely, but would they really have killed off Pitt after two episodes (if he's really dead). Or would he have been the Vaughan part?

Speaking of which, he nailed the basement speech.

I'm going to guess he was shot with bean bag rounds and is still alive

Seems odd to kill off a main character so early in the show. Especially after they devoted so much time to the back story of the character.

Nice to see Lolita Davidovich, even if her character is less than appealing.

Indeed. Like when he mentioned the "****" at the bank tried to pick him up and he said why would he do that? Gee, because you're gay?

A friend of mine was like yep - he's gay.

Killing off the main character was unexpected. Also the cop lady watching her sister do porn was odd.

I don't think she was watching her sister. Going back to the first episode, she's got a strange sexual fetish (that scene, while blurred, looked to not be of the 1:1 variety of sex).

I'm going with this too since if I remember rightly you actually never saw any "flashes" like you would when you fire a shotgun

Yup, it looked like she was watching DP. I thought she was going to find her sister, but it seemed like she was researching escorts, and just started watching it for her own enjoyment.

The second shot had a flash.

But... this evidence here from trailers...

Spoiler:

I also read an interview with Kitsch that stated he had scenes with Farrell in upcoming episodes.

Yeah, someone already mentioned that the shotgun probably had blanks or a bean bag. If Farrell's character had really taken a point blank shotgun blast to the guts there would be blood and chunks everywhere.

Also, imdb lists him in all 8 episodes.

Is just me or did Kelley Reilley get bad plastic surgery?

That must have been a plague doctor outfit that the shooter was wearing.

Looked like two shots to his gut. Should take a while to bleed out. He'll be found before then.

Re: True Detective (S2E02) -- "Night Finds You" -- 6/28/15

Yeah my first reaction was beanbag rounds. I just think they would have bloodied it up more if not.

Also the trailer played before Ballers which I watched afterwards and there were a few scenes with Colin we haven't seen yet, so I don't think he'd dead.

I'm enjoying the show so far, but something does seem a little "off" about it. Like it's trying too hard to be dark and edgy. Not much happened this episode overall, but I'm still interested to see where it all goes.

To compare with season 1, at this point we still knew next to nothing about the overall story.

i get the sense she either wanted to be choked out, or some rape fantasy that ties into her childhood.

to keep on topic, i think this is who shot Velcoro

Re: True Detective (S2E02) -- "Night Finds You" -- 6/28/15

Another thought: if the guy wanted to kill him he would have shot him point blank in the face when he was down on the ground. Plus, why wear the mask if you intend to kill him?

He shot the other guy in the groin and he bled out there then took his body to the PCH to be found.

He was sending a warning here by not killing him.
