Since it's still his story that he's giving them, I'll say yes.

Oh and apparently that was George R R Martin's plan. He told the show creators about it. They talked about it in the Inside the Episode thing on HBO Go.
Gut feeling is that this goes down a bit differently in the books. Them wandering out the back door of the cave while being attacked by the Night's King himself and his buddies and a mess of undead seems unlikely with Martin - they'd be caught like a minute later unless there's a huge Deus Ex Machina to come save them. Showrunners are a bit sloppier with this kind of thing (kinda like Littlefinger teleporting around which Martin would never do).

Martin normally ties his story knots a bit tighter / less ridiculously than the TV show does. One of the reasons it takes him so fucking long to write them, I'm sure.

I'm sure Martin gave them the rundown, but the specifics are probably a little bit different. The overall concept though, confirmed by D&D and does seem like the kind of thing Martin would do. Crazier, I think, is the huge drop regarding the relationship between the White Walkers and the Children - but that smells very strongly of George also.

I'd bet Martin posts something on his LJ about it within a few days on it. He normally does when the show drops something big.

Apparently, Benioff and Weiss have confirmed that this came from Martin. That said, they've been clear that they feel comfortable deviating from Martin if it serves the needs of TV.

Riveting final sequence. Some pretty tense moments.

Last 2 episodes have been awesome.

Poor Hodor.....Hold the Door.

The stuff with Bran being able to manipulate the past was a trip.

Wow... I'm still shocked and shaken from this episode.... RIP Hodor and Summer. I would have preferred to see Summer go out fighting instead of just running toward them and letting them devour him to slow them down....

Was it just me or did it look like dragon glass that the Children of the Forest plunged into the heart of the man that became the White Walker?

I kept expecting an ice dragon to fly down and for Meera and Bran to ride it past the wall. It looks like Meera might be the next to go now unless there is some incredible deus ex machina. I don't see how she can outrun that army while carrying Bran. Also, now that the Ice King has marked Bran, if Bran and Meera get past the wall can he follow them? So, Bran crossing the wall could allow them to cross it too?

The cave was blocked by magic (or some mystical shit) and that was unlocked by the mark.

They, team white walkers, can't get past the wall (yet) because it's a big fcking wall, and no amount of warg diddling will help with that. Best it will do is let them know where bran is going. Maybe bran's gotta lose another limb to sever the connection

Called it. The kingsmoot scene was pretty weak, how Yara had to have her brother speak for her and I kept waiting for Euron to whip out and blast the dragon horn, but at least we got to see a full offering to the Drowned God. I remember the book purists being annoyed back in Season 2 when Theon wasn't actually drowned, just dipped in the water like any baptism.

In case you forgot the scene, in And Now His Watch Is Ended he tells the story how the sorcerer who bought him used some kind of magic potion on him to make him powerless as he then sliced off his junk and threw it into a fire while chanting. As his member was burning the fire turned blue and a voice answered the sorcerers' chants from the flames. Varys still doesn't know if it was the voice of a god, a demon or just a trick but it's why he hates magic and anything to do with it including red priests.

The play was pretty funny, but a kick in the gut to Arya.

I certainly never expected to see Kevin Eldon show up in GOT. Same with Richard E. Grant.

It also looked kind of like Elizabeth Berrington in the crowd.

Hodor...

I remember joking to my wife over a season ago that by the time the series is over every British actor of any repute will have appeared in the show.

We also got Theon's full frontal with Ros and a couple with Loras and Oberon's plaything Olyvar.

Re: Game of Thrones (S6E05) -- "The Door" -- 5/22/16

So young Hodor is flopping around yelling "Hold The Door!" for a few minutes with a crowd watching. We were able to put 2 and 2 together, yet the witnesses couldn't? It became some big mystery at Winterfell?

"Why is Hodor all he says?"
"Nobody really knows"

I have to imagine few people remember the actual initial event that "changed" Hodor. For years the dude said one word and that's why there was a "mystery".

As he died, his last thought was imprinted so hard into the dream of himself, that it took over entirely.
Hodor's last purpose went into his past and became his only purpose.
His only purpose from then on was to make it to that point and hold the door.

Thanks!

Re: Game of Thrones (S6E05) -- "The Door" -- 5/22/16

So... Are we supposed to wonder who that was that the Children of the Forest turned into the Night's King?

In the books, the Night's King has only been referenced as a legend of the North, and is said to have been the 13th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. This sort of presents a paradox if the Wall and NW were established to protect Westeros from the White Walkers. Granted, in the books the NK is never said to have been one of the Others (White Walkers), and it's also possible that the NK wasn't necessarily the first White Walker, or the White Walkers were created after the Wall was built to keep raising Wights if the CotF were the ones who started raising the dead in that manner.

Either way, I wonder if the guy being transformed in the flashback was a Stark.

What a great season so far... the pacing has been great.

Tormund has the hots for Brienne... The way he looked at her when they were riding off was absolutely hilarious.
