All in all it was a pretty boring show. Fallon played it safe, but that's not what we expect from the Golden Globes. Safe is for the Oscars. Hope they step up their game next year... bring back Ricky Gervais!

Ricky Gervais is really their only hope to make the show great. Tina and Amy are ok but even they aren't in Gervais league when it comes to this type of stuff.

Didn't alot of actors bitch and moan that they didn't want Gervais back because he rips on them all night? People like us love that stuff but the Hollywood actors have some of the thinnest skin.

Fallon is safe as he won't offend anyone, Tina/Amy are relatively safe as they only take shots at certain people like James Cameron and his womenizing joke they did a few years ago.

I really thought this one last year was uncalled-for and tacky.

<iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/X12kNyxa79k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Sure I get that Rickey is friend of Jennifer Garner but that's no reason to ambush Matt Damon.
And this year, with Casey Affleck a likely (and eventual) winner, I'm not surprised they went with someone else.

I liked the opening bit with Fallon (seriously, that was amazing), but after that he was boring, dull, unmemorable. He's such an amateur after all these years in the spotlight. Plus being the Trump-normalizer that he was during the election period, he's the LAST person who should be making any Trump jokes. Seriously, this guy who asked Trump how he didn't get sick shaking so many hands? He has no business complaining about the election results. He's lucky Dame Meryl didn't rip him a new one on stage.

Did they really have to spoil "Stranger Things" in the opening segment?

It wasn't the time or the place.

It's a stupid awards show so that people like us who love movies (and TV) can root for our favorite pic to win. It should be fun and entertaining.

I love Meryl Streep, but the fact that she or any entertainer thinks their political opinion is worthy of broadcasting to the world makes me shake my head. And it matters not to me whether she was blasting Trump or Clinton or Sanders or Obama or whoever. Keep politics out of entertainment awards shows.

People watch movies to ESCAPE. How easily Hollywood forgets that.

They said "Barb's still alive!" before showing Barb in a water dance number. I guess that spoils her death in episode 2.

Honestly, if you haven't watched 8 episodes that came out last June, it's kind of your fault by now.

I don't have Netflix, but I'm able to watch it with my kids when they come over using their Netflix account. In the past 2 months, I think we've made it through the first 3 episodes so far.

Then they didn't spoil anything.

This is such a non-issue. Anyone else remember a few years ago when the Emmys showed the final scene of like ten series without any warning? They ruined the end to so many shows like Justified and Nurse Jackie that hadn't yet hit streaming services at all. It was awful.

She is a human being like anyone else and if she wants to use her voice to talk about human decency then more power to her. It's not up to you what entertainers talk about. If you don't like it don't watch it.

She spoke at the DNC Convention last summer, what bigger platform does she want? All she was doing at The Golden Globes was reiterating what she said before.

No doubt it's a free country and she has every right to say what she wants at an Awards Ceremony. But stuff like this shows how out of touch these entertainers are because most people don't want to hear this shit when it comes to award ceremonies, sporting events, etc.

This is an award ceremony where they all dress up in expensive dresses and self-congratulate themselves for 3 hours. So this is the last event where they have the tact to speak to the common person.

And I say this as a strong Trump-hater as I hate him with a passion. But I still don't want to hear about politics when someone is receiving a LIFETIME Achievement Award.

I am not denying her right to free speech. She had the right to make that speech, but that doesn't mean I don't have the right to criticize her for it, for the very reasons I gave. I didn't actually watch the show, because I knew this kind of crap would happen. There are plenty of more appropriate platforms for Streep to "use her voice."

I recorded the show and watched on a delay.

I cant stand trump either and her speech was out of place long and long. fast forwarded through most of it especially when she started talking about sports.

You know what, this is something that is very important and personal to her. It's probably weighing heavily on her mind. If she saw this inconsequential honorary award as her chance to remind people to hold the new administration accountable and support the free press, then I think she was well within her rights to do so. She's already won eight Golden Globes -- it's not like there are people left to thank. I'm glad she said what she did and it brought some of that discussion back to the forefront, and reminded people yet again what a microscopically thin skin our incoming POTUS actually has.

How courageous for this gathering of some of the wealthiest and most pampered people on the planet to take time out from wildly applauding each other to attack and ridicule anyone who dares to not think like them, while ironically reminding everyone how incomprehensibly dense they are for thinking their opinion carries weight because an audience tuned in to watch them hand each other some make-believe awards. I did learn that Trump will probably fail to carry the Hollywood precinct again in 2020, which I'm sure he's losing sleep over.

Why are people acting like politics at award shows is something new? And for as much uproar as she's getting, you'd think she did something more than praise foreigners and call someone out for attacking and ridiculing somebody. People seem determined to get pissed off at any diverging opinion from their own these days. Regardless, it was still a boring speech, but most of them were

Not 50/50. Some of us don't believe the bs from either side.

But everything's a political issue these days. Lots of people on the left are ALL about discrimination against the disabled, and then compound that with self-righteous hypocrisy.
