Written by former Castle executive producer/co-showrunner Alexi Hawley, The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD. At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a “young” cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.

Melissa O'Neil from Dark Matter was cast as his co-lead.
O’Neil will play Lucy, a rookie cop in the LAPD who struggles with a domineering training officer and might be developing a budding romance with Nolan. She joins recently cast Eric Winter and Afton Williamson.
Richard T. Jones, Afton Williamson and Eric Winter, who's in the photo with Fillion, were also cast as regulars.

Jones will play Sergeant Wade Grey, the station’s Watch Commander, who becomes a nemesis to Fillion’s forty-year-old rookie.

Williamson will play Talia Bishop, a newly promoted training officer whose first assignment is Fillion’s forty year old rookie. Winter will play Tim Bradford, an overbearing training officer.
and Mercedes Mason from Fear the Walking Dead will also be a series regular:

Mason will play Capt. Zoe Andersen, Nolan’s confident and irreverent commanding officer.
Mason played the series-regular role of Ofelia Salazar on the first three seasons of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. She also recurred on NCIS: Los Angeles and guest-starred on Doubt. Mason is repped by the Gersh Agency and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
It was ordered to Pilot last October with the option for immediate pickup to series. The Pilot was shot last month. This is expected to air on ABC this Fall.

Getting a thread started early I see!
I’ll watch this regardless, so may (for a first) stay away from the May upfront trailers.

I thought this was a remake of the rookies when I saw the thread title. Also, isn't the maximum age for a new recruit in L.A. 35 or did they lift that due to age discrimination?

Looks like it could be a good vehicle for Fillion.

Bump
This premieres tonight on ABC at 10pm ET
SERIES PREMIERE
AFTER DECIDING TO PURSUE HIS SECOND ACT, ROOKIE COP JOHN NOLAN FACES A SERIES OF UNEXPECTED CHALLENGES THAT COULD PUT HIS LIFE AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS AT RISK ON THE PREMIERE OF ABC'S 'THE ROOKIE,' TUESDAY, OCT. 16
"Pilot" - Starting over isn't easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being a police officer, on the premiere episode of "The Rookie," airing TUESDAY, OCT. 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand. As the force's oldest rookie, he's met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. When you throw in a workplace romance, a hostage situation and some tough love from their new training officers, the latest Los Angeles police rookie class has an uphill battle ahead of them.
"The Rookie" stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Titus Makin as Jackson West, Mercedes Mason as Captain Zoe Andersen, Melissa O'Neil as Lucy Chen, Afton Williamson as Talia Bishop and Eric Winter as Tim Bradford.
Alexi Hawley is writer and executive producer; Mark Gordon, Nathan Fillion, Michelle Chapman and Jon Steinberg are executive producers on the series. Liz Friedlander directed and executive produced "Pilot." Entertainment One (eOne) is the lead studio on "The Rookie," a co-production with ABC Studios.

dex14 can probably tweak the title to put that it premieres tonight.

Looking forward to watching this tonight. Castle kind of lost me in the last couple of seasons, so it's good to have Fillion in something new. I liked Melissa O'Neil in Dark Matter and I hope she has good screen time in this.

Really looking forward to this. Probably my most anticipated premier this fall. We haven’t picked up many new shows (may be just 1), so I hope this good, successful and is able to run a good course.

I might as well give this a try. I'm a fan of Fillion and liked Castle, and I've haven't checked out any new shows this Fall.

I loved it. Seems like the perfect show for Fillion post Castle. I liked that it didn’t glorify the job and showed the rookies including Nolan making mistakes.
at Nolan’s body cam footage during the morning briefing.
A little surprised that Nolan is in a secret relationship with Lucy. I was thinking that would be built over time.
Looks like Richard T. Jones is going to be the annoying dick and be Nolan’s main antagonist.
I’m in. Has potential to be a fun cop show with some drama.

I thought it was pretty good for a pilot. It wasn't Castle good, but like most shows I'm guessing this one will get better as it goes along during the first season. Castle was a rarity in that they nailed it from episode #1. Most shows don't.
I'd give this a B. The main things I'd change are focusing more on just 4 characters (focusing on 6 main characters like they are is a bit too much), and the ADHD editing has got to go. If not for those two issues I'd have graded it out as a B+.

Anyway this was terrific.
Pretty intense a little funny.
I just never like that ere has to be an antagonist like the Sargeant on shows like this.
He has no real good reason to be that way other then just because.

Looks like The Rookie did okay ratings wise. Not Castle good, but okay considering the current TV viewing climate and everyone DVRing and streaming.

the DB Woodside character is going to be a bit annoying. DB Woodside is almost like this gen's Ted McGinley. Appears all over the place for no real reason
