DC's Doom Patrol (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 2/15/19

The rumors are true: Doom Patrol is coming.

A live-action drama series has been ordered for the DC Comics’ streaming service, DC Universe.

The show will begin production this year on 13 episodes for a 2019 debut.

Producers include Greg Berlanti, who recently set a record by having 13 on-air TV shows (including DC’s Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, etc).

The official description: “Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.”

And here’s the official show logo:

Writers on the project include Berlanti, Geoff Johns, and Jeremy Carver.

re: DC's Doom Patrol (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 2/15/19

Greg Berlanti actually now has 14 shows currently/will be airing on TV/streaming, including this show:

http://deadline.com/2018/05/greg-ber...es-1202389424/

Berlanti Prods.’ tally now includes All American, Arrow, Black Lightning, DC’s Legends ofTomorrow, The Flash, Riverdale and Supergirl for The CW; Blindspot for NBC; God Friended Me and The Red Line for CBS; Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for Netflix; Titans and Doom Patrol for the DC Universe digital service; and You for Lifetime.
DC Universe is really stocking up on the shows. Now it's just a question of how many subscribers they can realistically get and how much content they will have in addition to these new shows.

As mentioned countless times here, I think we're running into a problem now with a massive glut of content and the average person not being able to keep up with everything.

Not familiar with Doom Patrol, I assume it's a lower tier DC property.

If this DC stuff is quality programming on their streaming service, I have zero problem paying for it. But if it is complete shit, I won't.

Doom Patrol is like the FF if they remained freaks like the original Stan Lee script called for (there are also parallels to X-men). They have major ties to New Teen Titans because that's where Beast Boy came from, but are probably most known for the Grant Morrison pre-Vertigo run, where he took over a legacy team mid-run and just went all out crazy with it.

But yeah, the concept is basically people cursed by their "superpowers" and treated as freaks.

Between Swamp Thing and this there's a heavy Vertigo-like vibe so I wonder if that's the direction they're going, and who in the world is holding up the Sandman rights because that would be a slam dunk if they did it well.

As much as people complain about the Current CW DC shows, realistically what are the chances these will be so good folks won't mind paying for them?

This could be the "best show ever" and I still wouldn't be willing to subscribe to yet another streaming service. There is just way too many out there at this point, and gotta be selective.

If these shows are in particular with CW shows, I will pay.

Eh, if it is $10 or less who cares. That is pocket change. I usually buy all the animated DC movies but if they put those on this along with all the original content, I will pay. Plus, they got me with Young Justice S3 anyway.

I would subscribe for $10 or less. You can pay more or about the same just going out to lunch one day. At least this would give you 30 days of access for some DC related entertainment during your free time.

Eh, it doesn't matter if it's $10 or less. If you subscribe to 20 different services it still adds up to an ungodly amount that is higher than any cable/satellite package dreamed of being. Can't expect everyone to subscribe to every single individual streaming service when there are dozens.

Internet alone already reaches $200 a month for decent services in my area with a 1TB datacap for the month.

Yeah, I love DC but unless they announce a ton of new content (or they have all the previous DC cartoons or something for the kids) I'll get it every few months and catch up then.

Ah, I didn't read the description for this that clearly, this is set after Titans. So maybe Cyborg calls on them to find/rescue his missing pals or something? I'm kind of surprised they were able to include Cyborg.

No, Beast Boy's first appearance was in DP but they don't have to have him on the show at all since he appeared much later in the series.

Too bad this won't be the batshit crazy, Dali and Borges on acid Grant Morrison version.

Hmm... maybe I worded that oddly, I meant Beast Boy came from Doom Patrol into New Teen Titans (in the comics). Since this is following the teen titans show, I figure that would be the connection.

I'm excited to hear this news, but I want to be cautious since we haven't even seen any designs for them. However, with the addition of Crazy Jane to the roster, they're definitely looking to explore some of the craziness of the Grant Morrison and Gerard Way teams.

April Bowlby, who plays Rita Farr, aka Elasti-Woman (fka Elasti-Girl), in a guest-starring stint on the upcoming DC Universe series Titans, will reprise the role as one of the leads of the digital service’s follow-up live-action series Doom Patrol, from Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros TV.

This is frustrating, I stopped being willing to pay for more streaming/pay tv/film services several years back. So far I have had to pass on watching the new Star Trek, and I only got into Hulu thanks to Sprint, otherwise I watched a ton of shows I wanted to watch the past few years pass me by and had to do some serious binge watching over the past 6 months to get caught up.

It is looking like I will be taking a pass on this streaming service even if the comments on the shows when they air has me wishing I had access to watch them.

The only upcoming streaming service I might grit my teeth for and pony up the $$$ is the Disney one if they open up the vault to air classics like Old Yeller, Polyanna, Swiss Family Robinson, The Shaggy Dog, The Parent Trap, Darby O'Gill, and other live action films that are still only available if you are a member of the Disney Movie Club (I am not, nor plan to join, because it would be another recurring cost for home video I do not need to deal with).

Of course, the Disney one will also have original films and since I have seen pretty much every Disney Channel original film over the past 15-20 years or more I would like to continue the tradition.

Also, passing on paying for content that is walled off means out of sight out of mind so it becomes harder for me to be bummed out at missing something if I never watch it in the the first place. What I just pointed out should probably scare potential content makers a wee bit but I am not quite sure how to articulate why at this moment, or feel it would be messy if I tried to do so at this moment in time.

Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black) is set for the series regular role of Crazy Jane, one of the leads of DC Universe’s live-action series Doom Patrol, from Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros TV.

Guerrero’s Crazy Jane is an unlikely hero suffering from the world’s most severe case of multiple personality disorder. Each of her 64 distinct personas manifest a different super power making Jane the Doom Patrol’s most powerful member…and also its most unstable.

Doom Patrol has found its Cyborg. Joivan Wade (The First Purge) is set to play Victor Stone aka Cyborg in the DC Universe’s live-action series Doom Patrol, the follow-up to Titans, from Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros TV.

It's interesting they're allowing Flash, Cyborg and Supes to exist in both universes yet Bats isn't. Maybe that will change with Batwoman.

I think we will see many members of the Batfamily on Batwoman except for Batman himself. I expect we'll get characters like Spoiler, Tim Drake, even Alfred. Batwoman herself doesn't have a huge fan following. For the show to be a success, they have to attract Batman's fans into watching.

Both universes? Are Doom Patrol and Titans in the CW universe? I didn't think so, but maybe I just hadn't heard. And since Doom Patrol basically follows on the heels of Titans, it means Batman is in this universe otherwise the infamous line from Robin makes no sense.
