I saw the series in 2010 and read part of the book. Both were really good. Ending of the series almost seemed like a horror movie. Looking forward to this.

Possibly for Emmy consideration. If content dries up and a high profile Limited Series comes to FX in May, it could clean up with the spotlight largely to itself and little competition.
Without a strike, did you see how pathetic the category is? Obi Wan Kenobi is nominated.

I was too young when the original mini series aired. I’m excited to see this one.
I know the book and mini series were big deals back in the day.

FX’s Shōgun
An epic saga of war, passion, and power set in Feudal Japan. Coming February 2024 on Hulu and FX.
Based on James Clavell’s novel, FX’s Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

Enjoyed the original, watched it off of Netflix discs years ago. It was fun to see an older Toshiro Mifune. Started the book and never finished. Coincidentally I got the audio book last week and started that. The narrator is really good. It's 56 hours long, so I'm pretty sure I can finish in time for this.

He's great. Loved him in everything I've seen him in. He almost single-handedly saved Westworld. But there's not a single "name" in the cast. Wonder how well it will be watched without an established 'star' attached.

Sanada and the improved visuals are the only reason I would watch this, but will wait until it's on a streaming service with no ads. The guy playing the Chamberlain role doesn't seem to have much charisma.

Gotta read the entire JC line of books (which starts with Shogun's time period if I remember correctly then proceeds forward). It puts GRRM to shame, imo.

I am full steam ahead with the audio book. Now I’m interested in revisiting the original miniseries after.

I have the old Paramount DVD box set of the original series. I might have to dig it up and re-watch it again before this new series premieres in February.
I have the book, but it's super long and I'm not really a strong reader, so I've never made the time to try to read it.

Yup, the one by Ralph Lister with the near 54 hour runtime. When I purchased it around November, it was all one file/part, looks like it’s been split since then.
