Dark Side of the Ring on Viceland

Re: Dark Side of the Ring on Viceland
Yeah this episode was heartbreaking to watch. For the longest time Martha was pretty villainized but after watching this its easy to understand her perspective on why she doesn't want Owen in the WWE HOF. I remember watching the PPV with my friends and it still seems so surreal even thinking about it.
This was good shit and can't wait to see what they come up with for a third season. I figure stories about Brian Pillman, Scott Hall and Jake Roberts could be good. Can't really think of much else off the top of my head.

Maybe Bret Hart did not want to do the show but it would have been nice to hear what he thought about in in 2019 or 2020 when this show was taped.

I got a feeling this was part of the deal to get Martha to do the documentary. Bret and Martha haven't been on speaking terms close to 20 years now and they have taken shots at each other in the media. I feel Martha wanted her side of the story told completely from her point of view and didn't allow any Hart family member to be involved.

Wouldn't be surprised if a 3rd season includes the British Bulldogs (both Davey Boy and Dynamite Kid), Brian Pillman, Louie Spicolli, Curt Hennig, the Windhams, Art Barr, Eddie Guerrero, Test, Adrian Adonis, Yokozuna, Chris Kanyon, Rick Rude or Mike Awesome.

That’s one of the problems with this show. It probably is going to start wearing thin on stories to cover. They’ve done a lot of the big ones already. I suppose you could also cover some more controversial angles and stuff too, which they kind of did already with the Brawl For All episode this season.

They could do a show with the Hart's family views or opinions on Owen's death.
I have not watched wrestling since the early 2000's but this show and what happens behind the scnes is compelling and they could find a dozen more stories
The UWF was interesting which probably nobody ever heard of so it should not be hard to find subjects to cover.

I hope they don't get into a rut of "Wrestler gets hooked on drugs and dies" stories. There's still lots of controversies.

The Plane Ride from Hell would make a good episode. I don't think the creators could find anyone who would talk about "Katie Vick".

Re: Dark Side of the Ring on Viceland
The creators of this show do a weekly podcast after every show with Conrad Thompson. They tried to get Bret but he wouldn't return their calls perhaps because how he was portrayed last year for their Montreal Screwjob episode. They indicated that Martha was fine with having Bret in the show.

Anything requiring a current WWE employee would be a no go, like the planeride from hell. Ditto Chyna. HHH is at the center of that story and he won't talk.

I'd like to see an episode for all the jobbers like Steve Lombardi, The Moondogs, Iron Mike Sharpe, The Mulkey Brothers, Barry O, the Italian Stallion, etc. They have a key role in the industry of losing to the new talent, and they are always at the bottom of the totem pole. They get paid the least, and probably have less security than the mid-tier and superstars. I thought The Rock was going to be one of those guys until they changed his gimmick.

I wished they would have made the Owen Hart story a 2 part like they did with Benoit. I know they really focused on the tragedy and aftermath, but they didn't discuss his tag teams, his KOTR win or the Slammys and the Austin accident. Still a sad tale especially because the family was against Martha's lawsuit as well.
I saw the PPV when my gf at the time would tape them for me because she had a descrambler. There was no reason, other than money, to continue the show. And then the following Monday Night Raw where everyone had a chance to speak and pay tribute was just hard to watch.

I agree that it was a bad decision to keep doing the PPV which remains a black stain on WWE. Pretty fucked up that they continued to wrestle in a ring stained with Owen's blood. However, I do wonder if they were worried that the fans in the stands might riot if they pulled the plug. You have a packed house of people and those at home who paid a good chunk of change to watch PPV. There could have been chaos and someone get hurt
If people would riot because a wrestling event was cancelled because somebody died they would have to be some sick people.

I have mixed feelings on Vince. On one hand, I hear how he takes care of hurt wrestlers like Droz. But then he will put employees in the ring storylines who have no business there and could get seriously hurt. Like when he had Austin beat the snot out of Jim Ross and even blade him.

According to reports on PWInsider, three of the topics for Season 3 will be the Grizzly Smith family (Grizzly, Jake Roberts, Sam Houston, Rockin Robbin), the death of Brian Pillman and Collision in Korea. The Grizzly one should be really interesting as Jake claims that Grizzly was a fucking scumbag that raped women, including his own daughter Rockin Robbin. The horrible childhood and relationship that Jake had with Grizzly is one of the things that lead to his alcoholism and mental health issues.

Re: Dark Side of the Ring on Viceland
More information on the episodes for season 3 of Dark Side of the Ring
ANOTHER TOPIC REVEALED FOR DARK SIDE OF THE RING
By [email protected] on 2021-03-07 15:06:00POSTWrestling reported today that when Jim Ross was interviewed for third season of ViceTV's Dark Side of Ring, one of the topics of conversation was the infamous WWE Plane Ride from Hell that resulted in the WWE releases of Scott Hall and Curt Henning. On May 5, 2002 a number of WWE wrestlers and management members flew from Great Britain to the United States following the end of a European tour, which concluded with a British PPV event. On the now-infamous flight, there were a number of incidents involving WWE management and wrestlers that were later attributed to the heavy drinking on the flight, partially because the flight was delayed for an hour before takeoff.
Among the incidents included the late Curt Hennig goading Brock Lesnar into a mid-flight wrestling match after ribbing him about who was a better amateur wrestler. Hennig and Lesnar scuffled in the aisle of the plane with Lesnar taking down Hennig and Hennig being unable to return the favor. Eventually, several others on the flight, including Dave Finley, Triple H, and Paul Heyman had to separate the pair. WWE announced that Hennig was released from the company shortly thereafter, while there was no heat on Lesnar at the time as the blame was placed on Hennig's end.
The wrestling was tame compared to some of the other antics on the flight. Dustin Runnels was allegedly serenading his ex-wife Terri Runnels until being told to stop by WWE Vice President of Talent Relations Jim Ross. Dustin Runnels was in the doghouse for a long time and was publicly dropped by WWE in late 2003 with a WWE.com statement announcing his contract would not be renewed when it expired in January 2004.
Road Agent Michael Hayes was involved in an physical incident with Bradshaw after heavily drinking, allegedly punching him. Hayes' actions led to someone (later believed to be Sean Waltman) cutting off his mullet while he was sleeping. The consensus at the time was that Hayes "deserved it" for his part in starting the incident with Bradshaw.
Jim Ross, in his now-defunct Ross Report on WWE.com, stated the following about the flight in his first column after the tour: "The flight was about seven hours in length and at times was low-lighted by a handful of people who consumed med too much alcohol and consequently acted like children whose parents were away and left the liquor cabinet unlocked. The conduct of this inebriated minority was unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Procedures have been put in place to ensure such conduct does not occur in the future. The bottom line is this: yours truly is the person in charge of the talent roster and the buck stops with me. We will do all we humanly can to solve the problem."
In the same column, Ross noted that Scott Hall (who said to have been asleep during the flight) was not involved with any incident. Hall was soon gone from WWE as his released was announced several days after the UK tour. There were reports that Hall wasn't in the best of condition during the tour, but he was signed shortly after his release to appear by the then-debuting NWA:TNA promotion.
A lawsuit was later filed against WWE and Ric Flair by several Sportjet flight attendants, but was quickly settled.
As we have previously reported, material has also been shot for the following planned episodes for Season Three, which will debut later this year:
*The late Brian Pillman.
*XPW.
*The WCW-New Japan event in North Korea.
*The Smith family - Grizzly Smith and his children, Jake Roberts, Sam Houston and Rockin' Robin.
*The late Dynamite Kid.
*Nick Gage.
*FMW in Japan.
*The late Bruiser Bedlam.
*The late Chris Kanyon.
