Yeah, the hero worship got old fast. And Zava is a bit too eccentric. But like BDB said, there is at least one moment on each episode that gives me the feels.

I was okay with the minimal Nate this episode.

His seething at the computer screen was just the right amount of time we needed… and I’m glad he didn’t spit.

Love the exchange between Jamie and the coaches:

Jamie: “I wasn’t being ironic, I was being hypocritical.”

Ted (to Beard): ”Is he right? Yes or no?”

Beard: ”Yes.”

🤣🤣🤣

I can't believe there's a secret gay subplot in a 2023 show, though. That was a surprise.
I was thinking that too, but I'm guessing it's still a pretty big deal in professional sports?

Good episode this week. Perfect amount of Zava. The show usually tries to make the actual soccer look as real as possible but having Nate literally 2 feet away from Lasso and his staff was strange. Club managers would never been that close to each other during a match.

I looked this up this morning (knowing nothing about football/soccer) and learned that the coaching staff is in the technical area. Found several maps that either put those near each other for each club or sometimes just as one block.

I think they were obviously closer for more drama but it doesn’t seem wildly out of wack.

The season has been pretty good so far. Agreed about the Zava character being a bit much.

Pretty messed up how Ted’s wife is dating their marriage counselor.

Nate clearly is a guy who’s been held down/told he wasn’t good enough all his life and being coach of West Ham is his first shot at having some power. He does seem to be on a redemption arc and he does seem like he has some guilt over how he treated Ted.

I loved the end of this ep. His ex wife’s smirk sets it up for Ted to go home /series.

they are actually very close to each other, here's an example from the Premier League

“Even with Zava, Richmond eats more arse than your mum”

”Buddy, you have to get off Twitter”

”This is a text from my father”

Glad Zava is gone.

Re: Ted Lasso (Apple TV +) -- S: Jason Sudeikis -- From the creator of Scrubs

This season is starting to feel like a slog. All of the new storylines are just retreads of things that were edgy a decade ago. The only part I'm enjoying is, surprisingly, the stuff with Nate.

I think it's the Keeley stuff that's making it drag. Everything else is still working for me but her storyline is...boring

Agree. Mainly because it's completely disconnected from everything else. If her day to day had more to do with Richmond, I think it would have helped a bit.

Re: Ted Lasso (Apple TV +) -- S: Jason Sudeikis -- From the creator of Scrubs

The Keely storyline is completely superfluous. Why do we even need the Shandy character?

I agree that the Nate stroyline is the most interesting so far. Now that he has the restaurant hostess' attention (and she apparently likes him), I bet she'll both bring him back down to earth, and allow him to properly assert his independence from his parents, Rupert, and even Ted.

Re: Ted Lasso (Apple TV +) -- S: Jason Sudeikis -- From the creator of Scrubs

Yeah, I think Nate is (finally) realizing that all the people he idolizes are actually shitheels and not worth his time. At least, I hope he's realizing it. I want him to be redeemed. I think Keely's stuff is a bit superfluous but she's just fun when she's on screen so it hasn't really bothered me.

Re: Ted Lasso (Apple TV +) -- S: Jason Sudeikis -- From the creator of Scrubs

This show isn't about the plot.

It's about the characters.

Don't mistake a soccer season's timeline as the main point of this show.

It's about the people growing at their pace.

And that's why I love it.

Roy Kent's monologue on how to deal with a bully is perhaps the most Roy Kent thing we've seen on Ted Lasso.

Just got caught up on this season.

Loved the bullying speech, it's also the same time he gets Jaime up to train.

Beard: Gina fucking Gershon
And Roy's look at him.

I think this show is at its best when it’s about the relationships between the characters and unfortunately this season so far has been much more about individual characters than the relationships between them. I still love the show but that’s why it feels like this season has taken a step down a little bit for me.

They seem to do one of these episodes a season and this one was great. Everyone got some shine, with the exception of Keeley, which I'm good with.

My favorite episode of the season.

Roy to the reporter
“A friendly is a pretend match, this is a pretend conversation, you’re a pretend person with a pretend job and I’m having a really hard time pretending to give a shit”

Fun episode. I knew the team wasn't going to leave the hotel as soon as they started debating on where to go. Beard continues to be the bright spot in a cast that's already shinning.

IMO the show is better without the conflict with Rupert and Nate.

Fun stuff. I was glad Trent was following Colin for the reasons he did and not something more nefarious. And the US restaurant totally cracked me up.
