Finished the first season - I also was expecting another Major League but this was *leagues* better. A seemingly outlandish concept but the characters are so rich that you want to believe in them. Any other series and that ending would have been heartbreaking, but here, you accept it and you can grieve it because Ted will still be by your side.

So about Episode 9 : On one hand, I am a huge fan of After Hours so I guess I should be up for any tribute to that underrated masterpiece. And at least it was something very different from the usual.

I mean I am never crazy about even the best bottle episodes. This one was at least kind of interesting, at least visually. But NO WAY did it need to be Super-Sized to 45 minutes. Yeesh.

This is one of those episodes that you have to dissect and find the meaning of… a twisted allegory of sorts.

I enjoyed it… but I didn’t fully understand it.

I did appreciate the steroid version of Roy coming to save Beard from Mr. Tarte and their conversation afterwards (… and if Keely is pregnant this season, then that is wicked foreshadowing).

But yeah, that was a weird ep.

I mean it's nice to get an episode that focused on Coach Beard, since we don't really get to see all that much of his life away from the team. Usually it's just bits and pieces of conversation in passing, but whoa...

Just finished S2 E9. Seriously, what the fuck did I just sit through? Had to look on IMDB immediately. No surprise that it has the lowest “Ted Lasso” rating to date (7.3/10). And I suspect that number will drop even lower as more people watch and rate it. This and that Christmas episode have been huge misfires in what otherwise has been a great season.

Am I wrong or did I see a reference to Fight Club when the four were in the elevator? Even the music reminded me of FC. It's when Beard was saying "tomorrow will be Sarah coombes most beautiful day of her life". Or something like that.

I understand why this episode was polarizing, but it was by far my favorite episode of this show so far. I loved every second of it, and I'm glad the producers were 'given' the luxury of a couple of throwaway episodes.

You beat me to it. I just watched the episode this morning and quickly realized they were doing some kind of homage to one of Scorsese’s lesser known works. I actually did like this episode, but I can certainly understand the arguments against it.

I don’t mind an episode focusing on a peripheral character, but this one was just meh for me. I haven’t seen After Hours so maybe that would’ve helped.

There were a lot of references to other narrative works, aside from After Hours. The Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Fight Club...

It may reference other works, but it's pretty clearly an homage to After Hours. The title of the episode is Beard After Dark.
