Look at Jo Koy. He's a giant star in stand-up, who makes a fortune doing one man shows to sold out crowds all over the country. But he made a movie that bombed, and he hosted an awards show and bombed. He's better off in his lane. Plus, starring in movies means acting and playing a character, not just being funny and telling jokes. Seinfeld is one of the most successful comedians ever, but he can't act for shit. He's basically a step above a horse with peanut butter on its teeth in teh acting department.

I disagree with this pretty strongly. It was made to fit his persona but he is really good in his Seinfeld role and held his own with the other actors.

He's playing himself and he has three great actors propping him up. Congrats to Jerry for clearing one of the lowest acting bars ever set.

He's still great in the role and it's not a documentary. So Larry David gets no credit for his acting in Curb because he's "playing himself and he has great actors propping him up"?

I love Jerry Seinfeld, and the show is my favorite sitcom of all rime, but he is not a good actor.

You know how you can tell that he is not a good actor? Check his IMDb! He's been in show business for over 40 years, and except for an appearance on MST3K, the only credits he has for actually trying to play a character not named Jerry Seinfeld are from the early 80s. If he could act, then he would fucking act!!

Re: SNL general discussion thread

He can do whatever he wants. He picks and chooses his projects. It's not like he's out there reading for parts.

And he's almost certainly not playing "Jerry Seinfeld" in Unfrosted : The Pop Tart Story, which takes place in 1963.

You started off your rant by saying that he can't act for shit and barely is better than a horse. I'm not trying to say he is giving award-worthy performances but he has been good in his most famous acting job so that's all I was saying.

Jo Koy has been around for decades.

Stand up was huge in the 80's and a lot of those people got sitcoms and movie work and there are a lot of diverse comedians now with unique voices.

When I compared him to Mr Ed, you should have recognized the hyperbole for comic effect.

Good job missing the point.

He never takes acting roles that are not just playing himself. Who else has a career like that? Name another stand-up turned TV star that never tried to be an actor in the movies?

It's okay. He knows what his lane is, and he is great in it. But it's obvious that he knows he cannot act, so it's fine for us to admit it, too.

If your proof of his ability as an actor is Jerry Seinfeld reading his lines for an animated movie in the exact same Jerry Seinfeld voice that he uses for everything, you're just making my point for me.

Spoiler:
and voice acting is not PLAYING a character, it is literally voicing a character

Re: SNL general discussion thread

The claim that Bee Movie shows Jerry Seinfeld as a good actor? Could not have been serious.

Re: SNL general discussion thread

Maybe they can do a sketch where it's like The Bachelor, but all the women are 6s and 7s, and then Sydney Sweeney's character shows up at the end, but she's a disaster, but the Bachelor insists on picking her any way.

Or a sketch where a home improvement show surprises a married lesbian couple, and it's Sweeney and Sarah Sherman in full squirm mode, and the host can't believe they are together.

Y'know, some original ideas like that.

Re: SNL general discussion thread

I like Josh Brolin but does he have a big movie or project coming up or one of those rare times a host is not there to plug something?

Just a little low-budget art-house film called Dune, Part 2.
