Also wondering if they're going to recreate the Impala scene with John/Dean (when he time traveled).
I’m not sure I like this idea. After years of trying it seems the CW settled on this as its Supernatural spinoff. It looks like they are going to retcon the entire backstory. John knows nothing of hunting until he learns about it after Mary’s death. There is no way he won’t tell the boys that or about the Men of Letters.

I was kind of meh on the trailer. John seems kind of a wuss unlike the hardened badass JDM played him as. I mean he’s also a war veteran.

Also Dean died in the final season. So when exactly in the series timeline is Dean reflecting on his parents past with Sam not around? Dean and Sam were pretty much inseparable except after season 5.

Tom Welling cast as Mary's Dad. I believe it's a recurring part.

It's unclear how much Ackles will be in this show. He's a series regular on Big Sky on ABC.

It’s hard to believe we got 300 hours of Supernatural. And now it is getting extended. I figure this will be more of the same.

I just watched the premiere and it was ok.

Meg Donnelly is great, the actor playing John is not.

They did some major retconning

Spoiler:
John finds out Mary’s a hunter before he knows her name and John finds out his dad was apart of the Men of Letters in a letter.

Re: The Winchesters (CW) -- Supernatural prequel series -- Premieres 10/11/22

The season (series?) finale aired tonight. It wraps up things without retconning anything from Supernatural. I'm glad they did that. It was an OK series for fans of Supernatural. The CW is eliminating most original scripted series this fall. The new owners probably don't have the affection and loyalty to the franchise to renew this show. I think the show runners knew that was a strong possibility so they made a self contained season. That's nice for the fans. They did replaced "Wayward Son" by Kansas with Led Zeppelin's "Ramble on" as the go to song. I think this was an FU to the CW because a Zeppelin song would have cost a mint to license.

Series Spoilers

Spoiler:
Dean makes an appearance as do Bobby and Jack. The series is after he dies in Supernatural but before Sam does. It's set in a different universe. A universe where Mary is half a foot shorter. (That bugged me). Jack restored the multiverse after Chuck wiped them out.

No chance the CW renews it, they've completely gone all in on golf despite horrid ratings to start. There is some talk this show may get shopped somewhere else, maybe streaming.

As an early fan of Supernatural who thought the show ran too long, The Winchesters was a breath of fresh air. Felt much closer in tone to those early Supernatural seasons. I also enjoyed how they didn't mess around delaying the central romance - we already know John and Mary get married and have children. Both leads were well cast and they threw in enough fan service nods to Supernatural for my tastes.

I agree it’s probably not going to be renewed but golf isn’t why. That’s just weekend afternoons. The golf content is free for them. Not only are they not paying for it, LIV is footing all production costs and sharing whatever pennies they can make. (It’s just a shitty production). I have no idea how the CW is going to fill 14 hours of programming targeting an older demo since they are giving up on the youngster.

Re: The Winchesters (CW) -- Supernatural prequel series -- Premieres 10/11/22

I only watched the 1st 2 episodes. After 15 seasons of Supernatural, which I saw every episode of, I just didn't feel invested enough to commit to this prequel. I didn't think it was outright terrible or anything like that.

The chances of this continuing on are slim. The only series they renewed for 2023-24 so far was All-American. So next season's version of The CW might be drastically different with the budget cuts and likely no more big IP shows.

Looks like no one else wanted to pick up the show, so it is truly dead now.
