We just finished season 1, but was thought to get through. It’s just everything at. 12. We both were crazy stress just from watching episode 7. Agree the ending to 8 was puzzling and didn’t fully make sense. Quote back on page 1 helped explain that. Perhaps season 2 fleshes it out further.

Just finished. Highlight for me was "Forks", ep7. The finale was so unsatisfying and wrenching.

As I mentioned earlier, I defined the characters on this show as "People over-complicating everything".
The finale was a soft-opening of the restaurant to friends and family... a beta test essentially. They put so much pressure on themselves, and when the slightest thing goes wrong - everyone freaks. Extra weird to do this in this beta test scenario.
Plus, this is such a small restaurant - so there aren't even THAT many patrons to deal with either.

Binged the rest of S2 and I guess I'm not getting the heap of praise the show is getting. The technical merits are fine but every character is just fucking toxic it makes it that much more frustrating when they revert back to their bullshit ways after they have a small victory. Yes, like real life and all, but to have one or two episodes of actual peace before it snowballs back to reality is not entertaining. I think S2 E4 and the one where Richie works at the fine dining restaurant were my favorite. I loathed the family at the dinner table episode. That shit was unbearable.
The episodes were short enough that I was able to binge them since I started them Sunday night.

And this is no way a comedy. It is so unfunny.
I tried. No way I'm coming back for S3.

I threw the rest of S2 on this afternoon and slogged through it. I totally don't get the love for it either. The main family characters are horrible people and not funny (and that X-mas episode was icing on the cake for that). Just so much yelling/fighting even w/o "Yes Chef!" from S1 so I have zero empathy there. I think the side characters are fine. But I am not a foodie so the concept may not have worked for me from the start.

Some of the Season 2 episodes didn't work for me, and I thought some were fucking genius. But I never thought any of them were supposed to be examples of TV comedy.

I wasn't necessarily expecting a comedy when I started it. I started watching this a couple weeks ago before the latest Emmy noms, and was baffled after the ones I watched (basically S1 + a couple S2 episodes), how it could qualify as a comedy. I just couldn't stand all of the incessant yelling - can't stand that family (and that X-mas episode was icing on the cake for that).
Like I said - I gave it a chance, but it's just not for me. Comedy, drama, or otherwise. I wouldn't like it as a drama either. And part of that is probably because I'm not a foodie type.

It's definitely NOT a comedy, at all.
I do think you have to be a little bit of a foodie to appreciate it. That "yes chef" that I see mentioned a bunch here is real, so it's weird to see people complain about it. But I watch cooking competition shows and am a mild foodie so a drama that realistically shows a restaurant kitchen isn't bothersome in the least.
I didn't like the Christmas episode, but mostly because it was so fucking uncomfortable, and so chaotic. Which of course was the point.

I'm not a foodie, and those are the elements of the show I find least interesting and dislike. Episode 4 was a perfect example of me finding the "foodie stuff" stupid as hell.
Marcus goes to Copenhagen to learn how to make super fancy desserts. At the end he constructs this very involved little, perfect looking dessert, then scoops it all up in one spoonful and shoves it in his mouth. What a waste of time and energy. It's just food. It's great if it tastes good, but all anyone is ever going to do is chew it up and shit it out.

I have no words. We just finished the Christmas flashback episode.
Me 3 minutes in - I can’t taken 57 more minutes of this.
Both of us at the end - that was the worst episode of television I’ve ever seen.
And I don’t mean acting, production or necessarily plot (you got some character background), but man…the whole thing was at level of 100 out of 10. It was pure adrenaline and chaos, and not on a positive way. Definition of unejoyable.

Indeed. I'm Mexican and we have our own bullshit family nonsense, but these white folk take it up on a whole new fucking exaggerated level. Ain't nobody got time for that, but apparently it's the best show ever, or some shit.

I went to Denmark and now exactly where they filmed that episode and I refused to eat at NOMA just because I new it would be bullshit "haute cuisine." It would have also cost about $1500 per person and I would have just shot myself for eating at some fucking place like that knowing that I am in the epicenter of amazing food in L.A.. "Hearty cuisine breeds hearty people, haute cuisine breeds degenerates."

I'm 100% a foodie and wouldn't have eaten at Noma either. Mostly, no amount of presentation is worth $400+ a person for a meal. Same goes for French Laundry.
I never got how people just argue in front of others like that, but I've been a spectator to it dozens of times -- why bother getting the family together if it's just going to be a shit show.
Alas, I love this show so eh. I imagine Season 3 will follow the natural progression of them achieving their goals and realizing it wasn't worth the sacrifice.

It's difficult for adult children to deny their parent's request (or demand) that the whole family assemble for a "family holiday. Especially when the adult children don't have families of their own. I can easily imagine Mrs Berzatto boasting (on a Xmas when a car doesn't crash into the house) to people about preparing the seven course meal for her entire family, deluding herself that the tension didn't exist and feeling nothing but pride.

Every single one of them still hang around for the shit-show. Unrealistic and makes the characters look really stupid.

Drama requires conflict. If characters are conflict adverse, then there are no dramatic stakes. It's heightened reality to be sure, but the heart of those family dynamics resonated with me and my sister. I'm certain many other viewers saw truth in the portrayals in that episode. And since the general consensus of opinion on the episode is that it is an instant classic and easily one of the best things to be on TV in 2023, your opinion is definitely a (tiny) minority one.

Also, nobody thought to call the fire department? Nobody was concerned about Carmy freezing?
Also, I feel like Sydney is my least favorite character. I get she wants it to do well, but step back. None of this is hers, and she gets super territorial.
Also, fuck Carmy. Claire - enough said.

Odd little coincidence I just happened upon browsing IMDB: White's ex-wife, Addison Timlin, was in this movie a few years ago.

Started this a few days ago and only have 2 episodes left. Looking forward to rewatching it. Feel I'll enjoy the first few episodes more on the second go through as it took awhile for me to fully connect with the show. Don't know that I was 100% on board until the insanity that was episode 7.

Re: The Bear (Hulu) - S: Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Abby Elliott
Good news for fans: we hear there is more of The Bear on the way than previously thought. Multiple sources confirm to Deadline that the Emmy-winning FX on Hulu comedy, which was renewed for Season 3 in November, also has been picked up for a fourth season to film back to back in Chicago.
A Season 4 renewal has not been announced and a spokesperson for FX declined comment.
Chatter about The Bear filming additional episodes beyond Season 3 started percolating in Chicago local outlets over the past week.
The move raised speculation whether this might be the popular restaurant comedy’s final chapter — something that happened with another acclaimed FX comedy series, Atlanta, which ended after shooting Seasons 3 and 4 back to back.
That has not been determined, according to sources, and a Season 5 of The Bear remains a possibility. As to why Seasons 3 and 4 are filmed back to back, accommodating talent schedules is one explanation as Emmy winners Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri are said to be getting a ton of feature opportunities. White already established himself as a leading man with his work in The Iron Claw.
Like The Bear’s Emmy-winning stars White, Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Storer’s star is also on the rise because of how the show captured the zeitgeist. Deadline reported exclusively Wednesday that Storer has signed on to do write and direct a feature take of Amor Towles’ The Lincoln Highway.
Season 3 of The Bear will premiere in June. The FX show, which runs exclusively on Hulu, will remain as a binge drop on the streamer.
Production on the third season of the single-camera comedy began last month.
