Although I could have lived without this scene,
Spoiler:
would it have killed them to at least show her naked? At least Peacemaker gave us a random twat shot.

All that aside, really great first episode. Look forward to watching the rest, even if the allegories are on the nose
Spoiler:
(Marie is a cutter, in addition to what was framed as a first menstruation scene during her intro, and Emma's power is activated via bulimia, etc).

Got all the way to episode 4 before having to call it quits for today. Really loving this show. Although I like the whole cast, Emma is definitely my favorite.
Spoiler:
I was happy that my assumption she could go full Giganta proved correct, but was still upset they Austin Powersed the nudity.

Tek Knight was such a sleazy piece of shit. The actor killed it.
Spoiler:
His comeuppance made Dean Shetty come across like the Stan Edgar of this series.

Ha, I was going to warn you if you weren't "satisfied" with the lack of certain nudity early on, it wasn't going to get better.

Although it still bothers me, I can't say I was surprised. It just looks silly that it's skews so graphic on one end, but then so PG-13 friendly on the other. It's like the old L-shaped bedsheets trope taken to the extreme.

Anyhoo, that gripe aside, I love this show. I hope it's a ratings darling because I want to see it keep going. Oh and
Spoiler:
I loved that puppet massacre!

Re: Gen V (Amazon) -- The Boys spinoff -- premieres 9/29/23

Are there any new episodes of this. Seems like it stopped after 5 - or is this a weekly release kind of thing.

I am liking it, but don't know if there is more story to go, or it just ended like that.

It’s a weekly release. New episode later tonight. 8 total.

Another good episode, I don't think we got any shocking revelations or anything but it gave the actors a bit of a spotlight. RocShemp still isn't going to be satisfied. Damned puppets!

Really good writing and it's giving me old Uncanny X-Men vibes. Glad it's renewed and the cameo was pretty good.

What a great episode! devilshalo said it had "old Uncanny X-Men vibes" and that is so true. Really pumped for next week. Also, the sound design and sound mix during the sequences in Cate's head were fantastic. Felt like I was watching a movie rather than a TV show.

Oh and

As much as I enjoyed the last episode, in hindsight, am I the only one who thinks
Spoiler:
Cate's masturbatory fantasy version of Soldier Boy was way too accurate? Wasn't his real A-hole personality something kept hidden from the general public in The Boys?

He was only an A-hole to the others, not her, and I can no-prize it by saying that they colored in the lines of his personality with their own feelings about him since everything was blending in. Or her own feelings about him once she found out the truth about him. Certainly other characters like Marie's sister and Luke were not their actual selves.

Re: Gen V (Amazon) -- The Boys spinoff -- premieres 9/29/23

I am SO burnt out on SH stuff and this is like the last SH thing I watch along with The Boys.

Decent episode but sort of a lamely predictable wrap up. Stuff with senator made total sense within the show and filled in a surprising amount of gaps. Ambulance scene was neat too.

Question for viewers: If we assume Superheroes were real, which portrayal would be closer to reality? Marvel or The Boys?

Re: Gen V (Amazon) -- The Boys spinoff -- premieres 9/29/23

I think somewhere in between, but probably closer to The Boys. Traditional DC/Marvel superheroes have the assumption that the best of us will get the best superpowers and decide, for no money or fame, to defend the rest of us even if they are hated for it. The Boys is like a super cynical version of the real world. But really most people would use superpowers to enrich themselves/look down on others/etc just like we use the resources we have at our disposal now to do so.

As far as this goes, the tie in to Neuman was great (even if predictable given the benefactor part) but I thought this particular episode reached some places I didn't expect. I fully expected Cate to be behind Polarity's convulsions to get Andre to leave her alone, and I expected her to fall into the dean's trap. I didn't expect Sam to be full on super hero MAGA but he's been sheltered so it makes sense. I thought Butcher would be the one meeting the dean and would be ecstatic about it (unlike Mallory) which would bring about a "good guy vs good guy" culmination later on. And I didn't expect to get New Mutants vs. Hellions just yet but I'm all for it.

So, just a theory I've seen floating around, so no spoiler tags. What if Cate was working with Dean Shetty to fool her friends into thinking she was killing herself so the Dean could fake her death and escape? That was a pretty big tonal shift from putting her head on Shetty's lap and crying to forcing her to cut her own throat.

Although The Boys has been willing to widely diverge from the comics, I believe the comments regarding Butcher in this episode are meant to set up a finale for the mainline series that will hew somewhat closely to its comic book counterpart.

Well, it is possible that this episode showed us a fractured timeline of events. We saw everyone get a text from Cate, but they didn't necessarily receive the text at the same time. Meaning Cate could have lured them all one by one and then brain washed them into then later arriving at the same time to "witness" Shetty's death. This would explain why Cate's eyes had so noticeable subconjunctival hemorrhaging when the gang arrived. Previously, her eyes only got so notably like that after extensive/continuous use of her powers.

I definitely felt something was off in that shift in tone. Maybe Cate crying in Shetty's lap was because even though Shetty was telling the truth about her feelings, Cate still knew what she had to do though? Could go either way. I think Shetty is probably dead though, unless they'd want to bring her into the main show. As it is, it's going to be tough to ignore the characters in this show on The Boys.

Re: Gen V (Amazon) -- The Boys spinoff -- premieres 9/29/23

While that would be a cool twist I'm not sure why they'd do that except to save Shetty as a character. The blood eyes could be because she had been pushing Shetty. And there's no way Cate wouldn't have been able to read Shetty's mind... I mean at the very least going with her would mean the death of all of her friends, and how exactly would Shetty have protected Cate from a super contagious airborne virus that kills all of her kind?

Now I'm thinking how much more potent Neuman is considering blood powers and the virus, but I think it's more likely we get some kind of covid situation out of this.

I sure has fuck hope not...I think of it as she realized what needed to be done as she was trying to kill all Supes.

Just FYI, there's a mid credits scene in the last episode.

So when is season two?
