Just recast the role. There's no special association of this actor with this character. His young death is a sad situation, but the world keeps turning.

So sad - I liked him in both this and Sabrina.

Absolutely no reason to put another actor in. Recasting is distracting. Just write the character off.

The reason would be to continue the narrative as envisioned by the creative team behind these series. Recasting is a minor and temporary distraction. It's just a TV show. I'd rather have the best narrative possible. The players on this show are not so important.

That actor is also the one helping to deliver that narrative with their choices, their motivations and their overall portrayal. I don't think actors are so easily replaceable that another could just be slotted in. I think it's a better creative choice for a series to let that storyline go.

In some cases, performers are so identified with their roles that recasting would be very disruptive to the show. I don't think that is the case here. I don't know how much my experience is different from others. I watch this show and I enjoy it, but I (honestly) don't give a shit about any of these actors, except maybe Emma Meyers. If they announced tomorrow that they were dumping the entire cast and replacing them with look-alikes, it would not affect me at all.

Seriously, there are a hundred young African-American male actors in Hollywood who could take over Perdomo's role immediately, and the show would not miss a beat. Perdomo was not doing anything creatively that another actor could not do just as well.

I'd be distracted thinking about how all of these actors got replaced. Viewers shouldn't spend time thinking about the mechanics of TV. I just think we should be past replacing actors.

And I'd argue the opposite, that his character could be eliminated and the show would also not miss a beat. Just put another supe in there with another power.

I guess we'll never find out if this guy was going to be the next Gandolfini or Cranston, but I doubt it. He was just an actor. There are lots of them. 10,000 women have played Audrey in Little Shop. It's just an ensemble role in a fantasy TV show; he was not performing the definitive Hamlet.

Yes, they could do that. But! Why put the writers on the spot like that to make some major alterations to the series after just eight episodes?

Just put another supe in there with another power.
Just find another good-looking young actor who can hit his marks and remember his lines. Again, Hollywood is filled with them.

Re: Gen V (Amazon) -- The Boys spinoff -- premieres 9/29/23

Makes me wonder how heated the discussion would have been if this forum were around when Becky was recast after 4 seasons in Roseanne.

Hitting a more modern note, in Riverdale, Reggie Mantle was played by Ross Butler for the first season and then recast with Charles Melton (when Ross committed fully to 13 Reasons Why). This forum didn't even bat an eye.

Carry on.

Or in the 1960s

It took me a moment to realize you meant Lizze Broadway. I forgot her character's name.

I do agree with recasting. It sucks but I prefer it to dumping characters and their arcs. It's why I wish Marvel had recast T'Challa, rather than kill him off. It's also why I'm glad they recast Gen. Ross, despite knowing I'll initially miss William Hurt.

I mean, despite his role in the comics Reggie was barely a character in the first season, right? The Becky thing was big and was also controversial at the time. In the world of the Boys I could see them go either way with a valid explanation, though.

And I think not recasting T'Challa was one of the best decisions Marvel ever made. Boseman WAS that character. It was the right decision (and it's a character who's mantle is passed already anyway).

Re: Gen V (Amazon) -- The Boys spinoff -- premieres 9/29/23

It would be very difficult to move the story forward when the Andre character was front and center along with Marie. Recasting is the most likely, but in doing so, the production also needs to give time to the other cast to grieve. How long will that take? How much of season 2 is continued after The Boys Season 4? Even I can't answer that. Season 5 would have possibly started development next Monday, the same day that Gen V S2 would have started production. So I guess we'll see.

If Spartacus could recast Spartacus, then any role can be recast.

It was the right decision for the audience and morality but not the right decision for Disney's bank account. The sequel as originally written would have been a bigger money maker and probably a better film than WF, IMO.

I realize that some properties have done it. I never said they couldn't recast a part. I just said that I don't think they should.

With a different T'Challa, we have no way of knowing that. With the decision they did make, they got 83% at Rotten Tomatoes, a 94% audience score and a global box office of almost 860 million dollars. A different actor playing T'Challa could just have easily have kept people away.

Re: Gen V (Amazon) -- The Boys spinoff -- premieres 9/29/23

I used to watch Bewitched when I was little. It was probably in syndication like Star Trek when I saw it.

I never ever knew Darren was recast until later in life.

Write the character out on this one and move the F on. I highly doubt it will make a difference one bit. I am not trying to sound uncaring about it. But realistically his character didn't get me to watch it or will it make me quit. There are other characters that are way more annoying they can get rid of too and it can move on without missing a beat.

RIP for the actor.

When my father died, I got a paid week off from work. So, I'm gonna say that grieving for a co-worker before resuming work should be three days.

You didn't have another guy come in to play your Dad in three days. Unless Mom was already ahead of the game in that respect.

No, in this case we decided to let the character be killed off, since his storyline of having dementia and not recognizing his family was pretty much played out.

In the original film, I got confused when they tried to recast DURING the movie!

No, he was simply the first person to portray the character in live action. I feel the character was bigger than the actor (incredibly talented as Boseman was) and another actor should have been given the opportunity to carry him further. As for passing the mantle, my chief complaint about the MCU is how quickly they sideline characters (mainly the villains), so it sucked big time to do it to one of the heroes.

Also, if I'm being honest, T'challa was awesome in Captain America: Civil War and during his brief appearances during Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, he felt watered down in Black Panther. Not really Boseman's fault (I blame the script and the direction he was given) but rather irritating for that to be the case during his solo outing. It would have been great to see the character's portrayal improved during subsequent solo films.
