They could've told the Daryl, Negan/Maggie & Rick/Michonne stories all in the original show without ending it. The 3 separate spin-offs were unnecessary.

I did like that they ended the series on a hopeful note with Rick, Michonne, Judith, and RJ being reunited.
I was disappointed in how they pretty much just handwaved away the CRM. That's a plotline that's been simmering for years across multiple shows and it felt like it was just wrapped up in one episode. It seemed like they were leading up to some kind of major conflagration that bring together all of the series. You know, like the CRM targets the Commonwealth, and it's this big crazy event series that's going to have Rick, Michonne, Daryl, Carol, Negan, Maggie, Morgan, Victor, Madison, Althea, Jadis, and the kids from World Beyond.
But instead, it's just Rick tries to escape CRM, Michonne finds him, they vacillate, then finally go back and blow some stuff up and the CRM become the good guys and everyone lives happily ever after.

I suspect it was probably more cost effective to cancel the parent series (and not have to re-sign all of the actors) and then split up the lead characters into their own shorter six-episode seasons. So they only have to contract Reedus, McBride, JDM, Cohan, Gurira, and Lincoln for their own six-episode shows with new supporting casts than it would be to do all of this in a twelfth season.
