Most of what was going on was fairly obvious- I assume they are the survivors of the industrial accident that took place on the planet, they discussed it later in the episode. Not having subtitles was probably just a creative decision.

Some of it may be obvious, but certainly not all. they were having full conversations or at least fuller and to not have us know what they are conversing about is a little off putting frankly. i would be fine if it was just snippets, but it's longer and i guess it's fine. just a minor nitpick. through ep. 2 now. one more after Yankees tonight hopefully.

And that title card is one of the best I’ve ever seen in tv or movies.

Just read that these are all essentially filmed as three episode arcs, would love to see these presented as one episode after the season has finished. Would be a nice compromise, and more viewing options the better.

I'm not sure if the first season is like that, but the second season will be for sure (with each 3 episodes covering a year leading into Rogue One).

I'm already chomping a the bit for more and we haven't even gotten to Mon Mothma, Saw or K2-SO (which will likely be in season 2).

3rd ep was the best. I was a little bored in 1 and 2. I don't know why this crew after Andor isn't just the empire.

This is going to sound weird for me, of all people, to say this, but I'm not a fan of swearing and profanity in Star Wars outside of the occasional "damn" or "hell."

I seem to recall Poe Dameron saying something about C-3PO's "metal ass" at one point in the sequel trilogy, and it came off as improper.

It just seems out of place in that universe, and takes something away from its character.

Whereas in the modern Star Trek series, it doesn't bother me when they're peppering the occasional "shit" and "fuck" into the dialogue. It's kind of shocking at first, but doesn't really seem out of place for some reason.

They probably haven't been integrated into the chain of command (it's a big fucking Galaxy) and simply function as outside contractors.

That scene where the town was making the rhythmic noise to alert the others was really tense.

What I am loving about this show is that it is Star Wars but doesn't feel too familiar, like the other shows. Like somebody else said, you could kind of just take Star Wars out of it and it would be a great sci-fi show so far.

This feels like a solid drama in the SW universe. It's the antithesis of the series before it - and that's a good thing.

re: Andor (S1E01, E02, E03) - "Kassa", “That Would Be Me”, “Reckoning” - 9/21/22

I'm among those who is much more interested in seeing stories that take place outside the "Skywalker bubble" in the Star Wars universe, so I've been excited for this series and it is delivering so far.

Episodes 1 and 2 did a solid job establishing the narrative and setting up Episode 3, which was an absolute masterpiece. That episode was easily up there with Redemption and The Jedi from The Mandalorian and The Duel from Star Wars Visions as my favorite short-form Star Wars content.

All of the acting here is excellent, but Fiona Shaw (Maarva) in her limited screen time is especially amazing. The only issue I've had with it is that B2EMO's glitch/stutter made me think of Aristotle Athari's Laughintosh 3000 bit from SNL and it pulled me out of the show for a minute.

Watched all 3 a second time with the wife this morning, and this is just fantastic. I spotted little interesting details that I missed the first time and just the look of these worlds makes you realize that other people outside the Skywalkers live and breath in the SW universe. I mean, stuff like the noodle shop, the bars, the way the living quarters seem, well, lived in. We know from the trailers that there will be more going on on Ferrix, and it seems Bix is involved with what could be a tiny seed of the Rebellion. It will be interesting to see more of Luthen and his story. And, like many have said, the acting is stellar. You can feel the connections and past with these people even thought we are seeing them for the first time.

I think that is something that has been added and has expanded the universe. In the OT everything is the Empire. Prequels introduced us to private commerce and labor (they didn't do it well, but they did it). The EU, animated world, and Solo introduced us to crime syndicates. Fact of the matter is, all of these entities profit when a fascist imperialistic government seizes power.

I love the notion that the Empire cannot be everywhere, so private industries fill that void (poorly) and are essentially sanctioned by the Empire. Think of the East India Company in colonialist England.

You could even compare this to Cloud City in TESB. Lando had a deal that kept Bespin free from an Imperial presence (until it didn't).

re: Andor (S1E01, E02, E03) - "Kassa", “That Would Be Me”, “Reckoning” - 9/21/22

First two episodes were pretty boring. Just running errands around the town and not explaining to the audience what is going on. Third one was better because something actually happened. Andor was my least favorite character in Rogue One so I had no real interest in his backstory. This shows why.

I'm actually enjoying the "not-the-Empire" characters - I like the villains not having some grand plan and just being bumbling idiots and I love the "office" feeling of their base - like these people could give a shit. That's pretty refreshing.

And it is incredibly stupid to have extended sequences to fill in backstory that have all the characters involved speaking a made-up language without subtitles. Like, I can't believe someone high up didn't raise their hand and say "this is a dumb idea". It pulls me right out of it. Glad they seem to be past that part.

I'm surprised at the subtitle complaints. The scenes were directed well enough that they convey exactly what is going on. What they were doing was pretty easy to figure out and their situation was explained in dialogue elsewhere (they are the survivors of a "mining disaster"). I mean do you really need to have "Look, a ship is crashing" "Let's see what we can get off of it, let's get ready" "Kassa can come, he's old enough" "Be careful" "Let's get out of here" spelled out in subtitles?

Episode 2 was kind of slow, but episode 3 was great and exciting. Looking forward to more.

Solid script, acting, production design, music, props - basically top notch. Most realistic Star Wars environment on screen, if that makes sense.

Funny enough, I’m not spotting many non-human creatures like we normally see on a SW planet.

Enjoying it so far. I watched during broad daylight at first, then got a rewatch at night. The real sets really stand out. It was much better at night. I didn't have any buffering.

I knew the kids were going to do well at the crash site. They had the high ground. Also, I'm good if there's not many more flashbacks to Andor's childhood.

I hope there is some consequence with the contractor going against the superior officer's orders to not investigate because I already hate that guy.

I'm not fluent on the timeline, but it was interesting to see the LAAT transports from Revenge of the Sith repurposed here for the rent a cops. Now high attitude capable.

I was kind of surprise Bix got left behind. I hope they get back together soon. And what a dick move by her lover. "I'm glad you're dead!"

One of the recap videos I watched on Youtube pointed out that Maarva's ship had a Kyber crystal hanging (it looked like a wish catcher type of thing to me). So I'm wondering if that's what they were mining for on Kenari ? They also pointed out Cassian's gun looks like the one from the Dark Forces video game.

I don’t need what they are doing spelled out. I would have liked to learn more about their society, their relationships and even their names.

I think the fact that they're " undocumented" by the Empire reinforces that even the audience will mostly be in the dark about them.

I mean, I guess. Still think it's very silly to make up a language for full scenes, complete with lots of dialogue and full conversations and then go "oh the audience will get it". At least that part of the timeline appears to be over.

I'm finding the voice is very low in the mix. I've got a pretty nice soundbar (Bose 900) and was only getting bits and pieces in several scenes. I've got the center channel all the way up, as this is an increasingly common issue. My hearing in other situations is fine, so all those heavy metal concerts from the 80's are not coming back to haunt me just yet.

Overall this has a lot of potential. I liked the quick cutting between the flashback and present day in Ep. 3. I think it's about to kick into high gear now.

I watch all scripted shows with subtitles now

I’ve been better at not reading the subtitles and only skimming them quickly when I know I didn’t hear dialogue clearly.

I always have subtitles on.

I swear, with nearly all television programming, it seems like everyone either shouts and over-enunciates, or they mumble and speak sotto voce. It's rare when someone just speaks in a normal voice.
