Oh, I'm sure he doesn't want the grind of a 4-day a week show. This is also a time limited commitment (this year only). Comedy Central must've dangled a big ol' bag of cash to get him to do this. Also, maybe he wants to feel better after The Problem unceremoniously ended. I wonder if he's going to bring over a lot of his Problem staff?

There's a little bit of behind the scenes in this article. Not as much as the headline implies. I thought the most interesting part of the article was the confirmation that it was essentially a done deal to make Hasan Minhaj the new host last summer until that hit piece in the New Yorker came out, and Comedy Central got cold feet.

This article is a great summation about the concerns I feel about Jon's return to the Daily Show:

And she really nails some of you people in this thread: "It seems likely, though, that many who tune in will be Stewart loyalists doing so out of nostalgia."

That's a stupid reason to pass on Hasan.

I guess I don’t understand the issue some have with Stewart being brought back. There’s no host currently and Stewart is well known and liked for his political commentary.
I would also say he’s kept himself pretty relevant. Plus he’s not signed on permanently. At this point it’s Mondays through election season as far as we know.
Is it because he’s older that he’s somehow being deemed a Boomer and out of touch or what exactly is the problem?

I am absolutely glad to see Stewart back, his voice is totally needed in this day and age.
But at a guess, I would say the problem that some people (like myself have) is that not enough is being done to create a back-bench roster of younger voices to take their place when they have to retire for good (same issue with the Democratic party, not doing anything to train their successors).

Yeah it was great. I had minor quibbles with the framing of one thing but laughed throughout. Some liberals online are very upset that he talked about Biden as much as he did. Don’t know which Daily Show they used to watch but this seemed like the same old show to me.

I especially liked how he slipped in “maybe we’ll talk about China, maybe we’ll talk about AI” - a well-deserved kick in the slats to Apple.

Dammit, this made me sign up for Paramount Plus. Great to see him back.

Very glad to see him, he got right back into the groove. And I'm glad to see him pointing out the issues with Biden; Trump is horrifically bad for this country but is Biden really the absolute best we can do?

During the later part of Stewart’s prior run, the episodes were broadcast on CTV up here, which put them up fairly quickly on their site and app, with ads, but I only watched Trevor Noah sporadically via YouTube, so I was relieved they didn’t make Stewart’s Monday episodes like a premium deal or something.

The YouTube clips I posted above went up not long after the episode aired, if I’m not mistaken, and I think they represent the bulk of the show (?), so that’s always an option. Being in Canada, I worried it would only be on some subscription service, which I guess is the other option.
