SNL 01/20/24 (S49E09) — H: Jacob Elordi - MG: Reneé Rapp
It's been over a month since the last episode, so I figured I'd start this thread a day early and get it back on our radar.
I have no idea who either of this people are but I recognize the musical guest from the Mean Girls ads (and after looking her up I see that she was on Broadway and has a new album).
Okay, so here we go...
Season 49 (2023-2024)

SNL 10/28/23 (S49E03) — H: Nate Bargatze - MG: Foo Fighters
SNL 11/11/23 (S49E04) — H: Timothée Chalamet - MG: Boygenius
SNL 11/18/23 (S49E05) — H: Jason Momoa - MG: Tate McRae

SNL 01/20/24 (S49E09) — H: Jacob Elordi - MG: Reneé Rapp

Never heard of them either, but I googled the host and he's an actor in Saltburn and Eurphoria, neither of which I've seen, but he's probably on SNL due to the former during this awards season.
Hey, I knew the host and musical guests the last two shows, it was only a matter of time before my age would show again.

I wish I only knew about things that interested me, but for some reason when the media I consume repeatedly feeds me information about things that don't interest me, I remember it anyways. Like, for example, I know who the Golden Bachelor is. I wish that neuron was being used for something useful or that could benefit me, but no, I know that there's an old man out there named Gerry (with an E) Turner who's DTF.

I think Elordi is on there because of how surprisingly popular Saltburn suddenly is. Plus that movie is ripe for spoofing.

This is one of those scenario's where the Musical Guest is a significantly more talented actor then the Actor Host.

He seemed like a cool guy on Fallon and said DiCaprio approached him at a club and told him he was a Euphoria fan.
I assume most guys would want to shag Renee Rapp and maybe does not make a difference she is bi-sexual.

She is an attractive woman in her 20s, so if given the chance, I'd jump on her and consider myself lucky as fuck, but in the grand scheme of actresses, I don't think she is especially pretty or sexy. Maybe if I saw her in action with another woman?

The post show "classic rerun" is literally the previous episode with Kate McKinnon and Billie Eilish from last month.
Will Green Day return as MG before season end? My money is on yes, as a quick visit to the tour schedule has it beginning on May 30.

Rapp has a great voice, but that was a truly terrible song. Zero melody, no beat.

The short guy dating show sketch and the bowling sketch (even though I haven't gone bowling in more than 30 years when you had to score by hand) were good, so was the AA sketch. And I totally lost it on the racist dog whistle.

I have never seen Elordi in anything.. Don't watch Euphoria. Skipped Saltburn. He might be a hell of an actor, and yes he's very good looking. But he's less funny than cancer. He needs to stay far away from anything resembling a joke. That's why all these sketches were variations on women lusting over him.

Great seeing McAdams show up to introduce Rapp.

I guess it was somewhere around the 90s that the host had to get in on every sketch. I think with today's bloated cast, they should try some cast-only sketches without the host to get more screen time for the main cast and featured players, and maybe find out if there's a breakout star in the group like a Murray, Murphy, Ferrell, Myers, or Sandler.

He is a very handsome man but the gauntness in his face and body was very off putting. Kind of reminded me of Christian Bale in The Mechanic. I get why actors do these kind of roles to show how committed and method they are to the part but is it really necessary? That can't be healthy on the kidneys and pancreas to have such a swing in weight.

Maybe this is a better question for the general SNL thread, but when did it become cast in stone that the host had to appear in every sketch? It wasn't always like that. In the early years, you had Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin doing the hilarious "Consumer Probe" bits, Aykroyd's solo Bass-O-Matic and Julia Child sketches, Gilda Radner as the hyperactive kid, Radner and Bill Murray as the nerds. In the 80s, it was how to get Eddie Murphy in every sketch, not the host. And there was always those great semi-dramatic sketches with Joe Piscopo as the piano player chatting it up with old timer Murphy. Then you had Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest as the "I hate when that happens" guys, or Martin Short hamming it up as Ed Grimley.

The point is that he has fans, and they are young, and they are on social media, not watching TV on Sat nite. So placing him in sketches means there will be more clicks on those clips on YouTube, and they will get shared and liked.
As I am certain Paff knows, it's like The Jam said, "This is the modern world!"
