Ripley (Netflix) - based on Highsmith's Tom Ripley novels - S: Andrew Scott - premieres 4/4/24
Few things are more captivating than a con man in action, especially when the stakes reach deadly heights.
Ripley, written, directed, and executive produced by Academy Award winner Steve Zaillian (The Irishman, The Night Of), will immerse you in a suspense-filled journey set in Italy in the ’60s. Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers, Fleabag) leads the eight-episode limited series as the roguish protagonist Tom Ripley.
Scott’s Tom Ripley is a grifter scraping by in early ’60s New York. He’s hired by a wealthy industrialist to travel to Italy to try to convince the man’s dilettante son, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), to return home. Accepting the job is Tom’s first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder.
In addition to Scott in the title role and Flynn (Lovesick, Emma) as Dickie Greenleaf, the wealthy loafer who Ripley is attempting to lure home, there’s Dakota Fanning (The Equalizer, The First Lady) as Marge Sherwood, Dickie’s girlfriend, who suspects darker motives underlie Tom’s affability.
Ripley premieres April 4 on Netflix.

Interesting. Might be worth it if the reviews are good.
Despite the fantastic cast, I thought The Talented Mr. Ripley was a bit of a let down when i originally watched it. I’m not sure I’ve seen any of the other Ripley movies.

Huge fan of Highsmith’s books and I generally like all the adaptations so far, but I didn’t even know this was happening until today. Promising trailer and Scott is a great choice, I’m in!

There is a show debuting this week whose review embargo lifts at the moment it is available to the public. So if you're wondering why you can't already read, hypothetically, rave reviews for something you're excited about, that just might be why.

Wow, so the series is entirely in B&W? I don't know if I've seen that for a TV series since Bewitched, Twilight Zone and early Gilligan's Island.
Looks cool, but kind of unnecessary given how awesome the film is.

I watched the first episode. I can't stress how absolutely gorgeous it looks in Black & White. Stunning and breathtaking. Nothing on TV looks anything like this.
It moves at a glacial pace, but I'm still intrigued. Scott is very meticulous, and so far doesn't exude the charisma and confidence of Matt Damon's Ripley. But it's still early. I'm going to keep watching.

Have you ever watched the other Ripley adaptations? There's the 1960 film Purple Moon starring Alan Delon. It's on BD from Criterion. There's also Ripley's Game starring John Malkovich as an older version of Ripley. Awesome films.
