I still think Disney is going to screw this up, but I'm glad some of the original voice actors are back. They guy playing Cyclops really sounds like the late Norm Spencer. I'm guessing Cal Dodd isn't playing Wolverine, because he sounds different in that scene with Cyclops.

I never watched the X-Men cartoon when it was on FOX back in the day, but I will definitely give this a watch. They should have produced it in 4:3 to keep it even more retro.

I remember watching the series, despite not being a comic book reader. But I collected Marvel trading cards and played the SNES X-Men game.

Pumped. Been going back through the original, halfway through Season 4. Some clunker episodes but still a blast.

While I always appreciated the animated series for the stories it tackled (like a good Dark Phoenix saga), the animation style always seemed...off...to me. I can't articulate it. Maybe the figures were too big and didn't have enough frames of animation to seem smooth enough in their movements. And the background perspective always looked off - like they were big Colorforms on a flat background or something. I don't know...it never really clicked for me.

That said, I love that they said "fuck it" and went right back to recreating the look and feel of the original.

That's also the same voice-actor (Cal Dodd) doing Wolverine's voice. I mean the guy is in his 70's now, so he's not going to sound the same as he did 30 years ago.

Oh the animation was definitely off... the best thing BTAS ever did was have a super stylized base that could be animated smoothly (for the most part) instead of trying to copy a more realistic comic book style. But at this point it's part of the charm of the animated X-men. At the time I much preferred the Pryde of the X-men one off in terms of animation.

How did they explain Cable in the old series, since there was no Madelyn or anything (I know she's in the new show)? I wonder if Jean's kid will be Cable.

I just watched the Pryde of the X-Men pilot and that animation is almost anime. I think it's awesome. It's also cool that they gave Wolverine an Australian accent.

Besides the fact that he's Canadian.
People seem to look back and hate Pryde but I loved it, especially as a one shot just cramming as much as possible in there. It was always weird to me when I was young that the X-men was riding high with all these soon-to-be-Image artists like Jim Lee on it and then they adapted the storyline into this animated style.

They even went so far as to hire an Australian to play him in the live action films.

X-Men 97’s creator and producer was apparently fired. Don’t see a reason given.

It's gotta be pretty bad to terminate him right before the show premiere

Almost certainly something criminal got him fired. Firing him now makes almost no sense for any other reason.

Although I feel the showrunner of the previous show he worked on comes across like she has her head up her ass, perhaps DeMayo's less than amicable departure from The Witcher had nothing to do with creative differences?

The whole roll out for this series has been so strange. It feels like it's taken forever to come out and there was a large push of merchandise a long time ago that has since come and gone and on clearance now. A lot of memes, mainly about Rogue's ass, peaked a month ago. And now this.

Don't know why they keep releasing merchandise months ahead of release. I've seen a few items on clearance already.

Disney screened the first 3 episodes for critics tonight. There will probably be a lot of social media reactions soon.

During the pandemic all of the shipping was messed up and merch kept getting released too late. Maybe they overcompensated. It's strange that that they can't get their act together and just release stuff on time. What happened to synergy.

They likely want to get on that. I recall Shang-Chi, Wish and now X-Men being far too early. I'm sure, there are others.
