Crap!

I just re-activated my account to find out that they Aren't allowing new characters to be created on a bunch of servers, including Burning Legion.

Whats the best place to find people willing to trade accounts? I have High level characters on Arthas and Eonar

Anyone having trouble getting on now? I can login, but it bumps me to the "select a type of realm" screen, and then it's a blank screen.

The Wow main site seems to be very, very slow as well.

I'm getting the same thing. Nice to see the scheduled maintenance is gooding some good.

And what's the deal with the website? Cripes, worst homepage ever. And ditto on their forums.

Yeah, the forums are down, and the site is very slow. It's loading a lbw page which I assume means low bandwidth?

Yup. Low bandwidth. I'm not sure the reasoning behind it, but it happens each week during scheduled maintenance.

Speaking of which, wasn't the scheduled maintenance labeled as a temporary deal when they were first announced? We're over a year since launch and the servers still need to go down every Tuesday?

My brother-in-law is getting a new laptop this weekend. Does he have to buy a new copy of WoW in order to do it, or can he install the one he has now? I am assuming he has to buy a new copy since it's one key per computer, right?

Also, while I am at it, what is a good laptop to run the game? He has a basic Averatec one now that runs it, although choppy and laggy at times. He is looking to spend around $1,000.

The CD-Key is tied to the account and isn't used during the installation. If he already has a copy and an account, he can install WoW where ever he wants. You can login to your account from any computer with WoW installed.

The biggest things concerning Laptops are the video chip inside, since most laptops are pretty poor in that area. However the better graphics chip are rather pricey.

Ok, so how much would he have to pay to get a high end laptop? He's in the military and has quite a bit of money saved up, so price isn't a problem. Then again, he doesn't want to spend $2,000 on one either. Maybe $1200-$1300 is the max.

The guy at Best Buy said he'd need a $1200 (at least) laptop to run something like Sims 2 (the other game he wants to play), but that was probably BS.

Oh and before anyone says to avoid Best Buy, he has a RZ card and certificates, so he would rather shop there, even if it's a little more pricey. Plus, he hates ordering online and doesn't want to wait for something from Dell or Alienware to ship.

Oh and here are the ones he has considered so far, tell me if they suck or won't run WoW that well so I can avoid them:

I don't know much about ATIs mobility chips, however, stay away from Intel integrated graphics. They've always been garbage, especially for gaming.

Yeah, I was aiming for non Intel integrated graphics. Here are a few more laptops we're considering:

I don't know about types of graphic cards and whatnot. But from what I've researched/read about the game, the big bottleneck with WoW is RAM. The more RAM you have, the better. It is recommended that you have at LEAST 1 gb of RAM and then at least 128 mb of video RAM on your graphics card. That will help the most.

If you check Anandtech they had a comparison between Direct X 9 cards and below running the game. The ones using 9 had better detail including ground textures and the water for example. So the type of card does matter. RAM will help the framerate however and freezing when playing because the game is trying to access the virtual memory.

He ended up getting this one, but it ran like shit. The lag was unbearable, even on 800x600 and all low settings and effects turned down to the minimum. At one point he died, and it took 3 minutes for him to appear at the graveyard.

I would be grouped with him, and he'd see me off running into a wall on his screen, but on my PC, I'd be actually standing there doing nothing.

The lady at Best Buy said they don't make dedicated video cards for laptops (despite the site saying several times that some laptops have them) and she also said there is no ATI x700 card for laptops, when I think there is.

She said the Intel M chip is a joke and the AMD 64 chip is the way to go.

Anyhow, the laptop sucks, so we're taking it back tomorrow. I hope they don't try to hit us with the restocking fee. It'd be close to $200.

We got him this one, and it works great. No lag at all, and he can even go to places like Orgrimmar and not have any problems. It was $400 cheaper then the other one, and now it's on sale so we're going to get an extra $150 credited back to him.

Some info on patch 1.10: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3147617

The most interesting part, you can upgrade your Tier 0 set through solo or 5 man party quests.

I don't know how I feel about the new sets being quest rewards.

I have 6 pieces of Devout on my dwarf priest, the 2 missing being from UBRS. Now I've run UBRS dozens of times hoping my set pieces will drop. Not to mention the countless runs in Scholo and Strat I did for my other pieces. So I'm a lil conflicted that I wasted all this time on gear that will be trumped by better gear obtained by completing quests.

It sounded like me that you would need the gear (like Devout) to get the upgrade. Like the quest would upgrade your armor to the better armor.

I'm pretty sure they aren't suggesting that your Devout will be upgraded to the new armor. That would mean all the people that realized that the tier 0 armor wasn't very good and put together their own set would have to farm their tier 0 before they could get the new armor. That doesn't appear to be what they are trying to do here. From the examples of gear provided and their set bonuses, this stuff seems at least as good or better than the Tier 1 sets (Prophecy, Might, etc.).

You are always replacing old gear with better stuff though. That's progression. I don't really have a problem with it. There will always be bigger and better stuff out there...
