Super Mario Galaxy-11/12/2007
I am shocked that this absolutely awesome looking game hasn't got a thread of its own. I did use the search function, and nothing came up. So, I've decided to start it. After all, this game should be the most highly anticipated game for Wii, this holiday season.
At any rate, I went to Super Target, today, to pick up I Love Lucy: The Complete Series DVD, and saw the pre-order deal they have. They are offering the Commemorative Launch Coin (which some other retailers are offering), but, they also have a Special Edition Super Mario Galaxy Gift Card (which is a 3-D lenticular card). You just pay the $5.00 reservation, which is applied to the gift card, and you bring the gift card back when the game is released, and that total is applied to your game. You also pick up the coin upon release. A pretty sweet deal! You get to keep the card, which can be re-loaded, from what I understand.
I am so stoked for this game. It, along with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (which I have on my Christmas list), Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii, are the reasons I bought a Wii. Less than a month, and we'll get our hands on what is sure to be the most AWESOME Super Mario game ever created!

In all honesty, does this game even need a thread. We all know (at least Wii owners) it will kick ass, and I for one can not wait to play it. As long as it lives up to what others are saying of it being a true follow-up to SM64, then I will be one happy camper. I need to stop watching all the videos online though

I also need to stop watching every video that comes along. I feel like I'll know the whole game, before I even get a chance to play it. Rumor has it that GameStop/EB Games, and several other retailers, already have demos (or will soon have them), which allow 10 minutes of play time with the game. I have to resist that temptation! It's going to be hard, but, I am not even going to go looking for one. I want to be a "virgin", when it comes to actually playing the game!

By the way, here is the link to the official US site:

Not much going on, yet. It does have information about the Pre-Order Commemorative Coin.

I haven't touched my wii since Super Paper Mario, but I am buying this on release day...I'm super pumped for it - everything about it sounds amazing so far. I can't wait!

I also pre-ordered from Target. The lenticular card is pretty damn cool, and if for some reason I don't pick up my pre-order it reverts back to just being a regular gift card.

I guess I'm the only one in the world who doesn't really think this looks all that good. If it turns out to be, I'll eat crow and get a used copy down the line though.

L&O, I agree. Well, I think it looks fun, and it certainly is Mario, but it really lacks the "OMG I have to play this!" for me. Maybe I need to watch more of the videos on it, or something.
It's still a day one purchase for me, but for some reason the excitement isn't there this time around. Hopefully it comes back once I start playing...

Famitsu Reviews Super Mario Galaxy: 38/40:
http://almostmonumental.com/2007/10/...y-gets-a-3840/
"Famitsu, the biggest video game magazine in Japan, are the first to review "the second coming", Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii, and they have given it a score of 38/40. 2 reviewers gave it a 9, and the other 2 a perfect 10. For comparison, Famitsu gave Super Mario 64 a score of 39/40 and Super Mario Sunshine a score of 37/40. Of course they also gave Nintendogs a perfect score, so I don't blame you if you don't have complete faith in their scores."
Note: First link is down now. Go Nintendo also has the score, plus the following notes about the review:
http://gonintendo.com/?p=27894
* Keeps up the feeling of “I wanna see what’s in the next level!”
* Gradually builds up things available in game, keeping a good difficulty balance and level design.
* Gravity change gimmicks and special actions improve boss fights.
* Wiimote controls work almost too well
* Tempo is abnormally good
* Just being able to point and gather star pieces in exhilarating.
* Game everyone can enjoy

Looks kinda cool. I don't like Mario 64 (I think the camera and controls suck), so I'll wait to hear reviews before buying this.
[I agree with you about Mario Kart Wii, though.]

I'm excited for it...this game is the only reason I haven't ditched my Wii completely, since I've been so disgusted with it. Very anxiously awaiting this.

Sure, the Wii hasn't had an outpouring of great games within it's first year, but, the releases are improving, and huge games are coming out. It would seem that most consoles go through this slow first year, and then things really heat up. I believe that it's a bit too early to be "disgusted" by something which is still coming to life.

I am interested in Cooking Mama and Big Brain Academy but I'm wary of paying double the price for what is essentially a DS port with waggle motion attached to it.
Honestly, there isn't much coming out for the 360 next year. It seems their high-profile library is out the door by the end of this year (GTA4 notwithstanding). I'm looking forward to a lot of Wii games, they're just not out yet. And once some of these current games drop in price (

SMG looks fucking amazing and is the MAIN reason I got a Wii in the first place.
Super Mario Sunshine was a great game, but focused too much on story (who needs story in Mario?), gimmicks (the water pack was only so much fun), and didn't feel like a true mario sequel.
Mario 64 was great, but not perfect.
Super Mario Galaxy looks to reference some of the greatest mario game characteristics:
-Bringing back characters/elements from Super Mario World
-Introducing new "costumes" (the bee costume is the new raccoon)
-The gravity effects look fun
-From all the youtube vids i've seen, it seems more focused on platforming and LESS on collecting/replaying (god i hope im right)
ill be playing this as soon as its released.
so far i havent had the urge to finish Zelda (in the fire dungeon)
i'm oh-so-close to finishing Paper Mario (level 8-2)
Metroid Prime 3 was a bit difficult to get into after 2 hours of play and havent had the urge to go back yet
was anticipating Dewys Adventure, Mario Party 8, and many other games but they couldnt really hold my attention
im counting on Mario to be the game i WANT to finish.
