Hopefully this means we will get some good Offspring songs in the future.

I appreciate that they are diversifying the content, but just because I love Morphine, doesn't mean it belongs in a game called ROCK Band.

Please, give us obscure stuff. But for god sakes, let us "Rock out with our C@&K out".
I am with you 100%.

while Activision and Neversoft take Guitar Hero towards an increasingly "mainstream" audience, Harmonix are happy to stick with bands that, you know. Aren't Maroon 5 or Coldplay.
As opposed to Fall Out Boy, which will be getting the full album treatment at some point? Furthermore I don't recall Maroon 5 in GH and they are just now touching on Coldplay next week. I get it, trashing GH and Activision is the 'in-thing' but come on, at least be objective about it.

Awesome news about Offspring. Hammerhead is a decent song, but they have a dozen others they could touch upon. Hopefully this is just a gateway track.

Geez, I don't know how I missed the "DVDTalk Rocks" friend thing. I submitted my request and can tear up Expert guitar/drums/bass til dawn . Would be nice to see some more gold star full band songs (while in multiplayer I've only ever seen Cherub Rock, Enter Sandman, and Blood Doll get gold, all while I was on drums) since getting 3 other people good enough to hit that is hard to find . I've got all the DLC minus Cars, Buffet, and that MTV2 pack.

Nice, another $8 towards the savings for GH: Aerosmith!!!

Maybe I'd be excited if I was 15 years younger & went to college. Who was it that said there was too much classic rock in rock band?? Someone must've listened, because...damn.

Maybe it's been said before, but some Motorhead would be cool.
Sad thing is, I'm a sucker for a sale, so I'll probably check out that Crooked X song for the price, esp. if they're the ones who did the bonus song Nightmare, I did like that one.
Skimming my itunes directory of artists, here's some artists with what I would consider "rock" songs that I think could rock on Rock Band (even though some are subgenres or are not mainstream/popular artists).
AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Anthrax, I wouldn't mind a track from Beastie Boys Licenses to Ill (even though that album was mostly a joke on metalheads), Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, I'd love Go Betty Go, the Infectious Grooves would bring some bass to the forefront (though they've sold what, four albums), I heard MOD True Colors today and thought that would rock, it's got a nice drum beat and guitar solo; Misfits (old or new); Tesla (preferably something from Mechanical Resonance); it's more alternapop rock, but there are some Smiths tracks that would be good; Twisted Sister; "and many more".
Oh well. I guess no matter what they chose, they couldn't please everyone, and speaking optimistically, they are keeping it somewhat varied while still remaining within the budget constraints (I guess it would be prohibitively expensive to license *all* the great rock artists.)
Admittedly part of my problem is that recent popular rock music just doesn't do much for me.

I'm going to vent here for a second..
Spoiler:

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!! THERE IS NO PLEASING YOU PEOPLE!

You bitch about The Pixies, saying they're not rock. Now they've gone and thrown in some rock with the A7X/Offspring/Crooked X stuff this week, and you're still not happy.

I've bought tracks from every single week, with the exception of the Grateful Dead pack, and I didn't even really bitch about that one.

You guys need to get more varied tastes or experiment more, because there's a lot of great music as DLC that is crazy fun to play.

People need to learn how to voice their opinion without bitching, in my opinion. I know it's the internet, but still. I have been very vocal in my distaste for post-Harmonix Guitar Hero, but I try my best to explain why I don't like it. For some DLC I didn't care for (Grateful Dead), I would probably say something like:

"Not my cup of tea, but I'm sure there's a bunch of people out there who will dig it."

Isn't the ability to somewhat anonymously bitch and moan about everything why Al Gore invented the internet?

I thought it was to push his green initiative. A forum for like minded individuals if you will.

The porn, piracy, and bitching was just bonus.

Shagrath, just assume everybody has a sig that says, "The above post is simply the opinion of the poster. Please don't take offense - unless I tell you to."

Because honestly if I don't use a smiley after a post that somebody disagrees with, half of them take it as a personal attack or something.

But do you really get to sound off? Don't you lose that right when you buy whatever HMX puts out? You would buy Whomp! There it is, and the Macarena if they put it out. Apparently short of the Greatful Dead, you'll buy anything. Is it wrong for people that don't feel like buying everything wanting something a little more specific than whatever Harmonix puts out every week?

Which is usually my response, but week after week after week it gets old. I'm sure there are people that will eat up the Pixies, but it certainly doesn't ROCK, IMO, if you get my drift.

I think this thread needs to be renamed for false advertising. There hasn't been any Shredding, Pounding and Wailing in about 7 weeks. Like I said, I don't really have a problem with what they are releasing but they just need to mix in some shit that actually rocks a little more often. Like AsmodeusVice said, let us "Rock out with our C@&K out". Looks like Offspring will fill that void this week. Maybe Avenged Sevenfold but where the hell is Bat Country? Every part for that song sounds fun as hell:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WiHZZ-OJp5o&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WiHZZ-OJp5o&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Lastly, do you really think a band like Avenged Sevenfold is in any way a good substitute for any of the 20-30 bands people(including me) have listed in the past few hours? Come on. Sure it rocks, and it works for now, but like I said earlier, it's just okay, in my book, anyway. I'll definitely get the Offspring though. It appears that both camps, RB & GH are sitting on the good shit for GHIV and RB2 in the fall. I'll just have to come to grips with that... while I'm playing Aerosmith.

I don't buy whatever HMX puts out. I have purchased about 75% of the songs. If "Whoop! There It Is" (Go Tag Team!) or "Maracena" were put out as DLC, I'd have to look at the charts. If they looked like they were fun to play on any instrument (guitar/drums/vocals), I'd probably pick them up. A song that is fun to play will grow on me and become I song I enjoy listening to.

I know you're being somewhat sarcastic here, but the last seven weeks have had plenty of all three. Whether it came in a package you like or not is not the point. My "wailing" was an adjective for vocals, so:

Disturbed: Shredding, Pounding, Wailing
The Cars: Wailing (in sections)
Kool Thing: Pounding
Priest: Shredding, Wailing, Pounding

Anyways. I'm pretty sick of arguing and defending Harmonix left and right. If someone wants to take over the official thread with the next iteration (surely coming next week), be my guest. All the bitching gets me riled up. I think I'll just get the DLC announcements on my cell phone every week and enjoy the songs with my friends and fellow club members.

Peace out.

Now, seriously, "rock" as a musical genre is so broad as to be almost meaningless. If you think rock=20 very specific bands from the years 1968-1982 then perhaps you should broaden your horizons a bit. I mean, some people complained about fucking Sonic Youth, for chrissakes. If they can't be classified as rock then Ella Fitzgerald is fucking reggaeton.

I buy songs because I like them. I don't care what the charts are. If I don't like the song, I won't like playing it.

I think this is the first time I ever quoted myself. Anyhow...while I obviously disagree with alot of the recent selections, I don't call them shit. I do remember all the bitching in the past that there was too much 'classic' rock, and it seems that 'classic' rock is being put on the back burner.

Also, why get frustrated at people bitching? There are people that like every form of music on these forums, so the one's that are bitching this week may have to listen to the one's that like this week's DLC bitch about an 80's rock-pack or something next week (I hope ).

My rule of thumb is: If I heard the song before, I buy the DLC. I haven't been buying too much lately.

I care what the charts are, if they look boring I won't enjoy it (or won't feel I got my money's worth), but I have to like the song as well. Some of the songs I've bought, I've heard before, others I haven't (I'm honestly surprised I never got into Die Toten Hosen before, German punk based on A Clockwork Orange has me written all over it.)
Let me be a little positive: I do like the Pixies, I like the Cars, I like the variety of DLC. I like the sales and cheaper tracks. I like the "preview now" functionality of the Store. I really like the DLC listing post in these threads. I like the whole concept of Rock Band as a game and as a "platform" (assuming we don't get screwed on RB2).
I don't like all music, radio or DLC, just like I don't like all movies or all DVDs. Stuff I don't like, I don't buy. Of course I wish they would release all the songs/bands I like, but that statement probably goes for everyone, and of course it's easier to bitch than to praise. I don't think I've ever said "Band X is crap", however I know I've said "I really don't like Band X". It seems like the recent focus has been on 90's and 00 "numetal" and "grungecore" or whatever, but people (including myself) tend to focus on the negative or the things they don't like (like "Why am I always in the longest line?" You're really not); Cars, Pixies, Buffett, are definitely not numetal/etc.

Tiz true. I mean, I'm not too keen on The Pixies, but watching people call them "not rock" is just baffling to me. Pretty much everything on RB is some flavor of rock (minus maybe Still Alive, but come on), whether that flavor tastes good to everyone or not.

Now if we're talking about what does rock or songs you can rock out to, that's a different argument. And I still disagree that there hasn't been anything like that recently.
